Did a Former Nancy Pelosi Aide Screw Up the Komen Decision? Ogilvy Public Relations Should Explain.

Judd Legum at Think Progress did what appears to be a pre-emptive strike against former Bush White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer claiming that Fleisher was “secretly involved” in the Susan G. Komen Foundations‘ strategy on planned parenthood.

In fact, according to people I’ve spoken to who are aware of the decision making processes at Komen, Fleischer had nothing to do with Komen’s strategy or decision on this matter. I use the word “pre-emptive” because it seems Think Progress and the left wanted to get this out there quickly, damn the facts, to distract from Brendan Daly.

Brandon Daly is Nancy Pelosi’s former press secretary. He now works at Ogilvy Public Relations.

According to people close to the Komen Foundation I’ve spoken to, it was not Fleischer who was involved in the strategy and PR related to the Planned Parenthood decision, but rather Nancy Pelosi’s former press secretary and Ogilvy Public Relations executive Brendan Daly.

Think Progress seemingly wanted to jump the gun and blame a Republican for a disastrous PR strategy when it was not just any Democrat, but one tied to Nancy Pelosi, who was quick out of the gate condemning the Komen Foundation.

Maybe Komen should have gone with Edelman instead.

I don’t see a topic for Orrin Hatch so let me see that I am just concerned about this Tea Party attack. Hatch voting with conservatives 99% of the time wasn’t enough to stop FreedomWorks from mailing a 44 page attack ad to tens of thousands of Utah voters.

Tea Party groups are great at supporting primary candidates who lose overwhelmingly in the general election. The American public doesn’t like the Tea Party. This is a group that had a great brand name and decided to spoil it. They’re desperate to show that they’re still relevant by picking fights with great Republican elected officials like Orrin Hatch. And the Tea Party still points to winning a couple primaries as evidence of “strength.” Puh-lease, Sharron Angle lost a REPUBLICAN seat.

About Komen: I agree with Komen’s decision completely but it looks bad because breast concern is of course a life and death issue. Smerconish did a straw poll on his radio program, which is majority-conservative. Even conservatives are concerned about Komen’s decision.

Conservatives are concerned that Komen is continuing to provide grants to Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood has not been providing breast exams and have never provided mammograms. So why is Komen giving them grants. I would say that donations from conservatives will dry up unless this idiocy is stopped.

….a cynical person might be tempted to wonder if perhaps this was a coordinated effort from the get-go.

After all, Ms. Pelosi has been desperately begging for attention ever since she lost her Speakership. What better way to become relevant again, while at the same time riling up a dejected base who is becoming less and less likely to show up at the polls in November?

    But I’m sure it’s all just a big coincidence…..

This post is about Komen, not Hatch. Attacking the Tea Party is just icing on the cake. The initial Komen decision was the correct one: PP doesn’t really do mammograms, they kill babies. Redirecting the money to an organization that actually performs mammograms is far better use of their money.

When Komen announced their decision to suspend support for PP I sent them a thank you note. When they reversed, I sent a note castigating them. I’m glad I didn’t move fast in sending a contribution after the first announcement. If I had, I would be demanding a refund.

claim of that he votes with conservatives 99% of the time is bogus!

In addition, the TEA Party has supported more candidates than just Sharon Angle. Many TEA Party supported candidates, in many states, won. So, again, your claim that TEA Party groups’ supported primary candidates “lose overwhelmingly in the general election” is also bogus!

Having spent many years in Utah working with and around Orrin Hatch, to include an internship in his office back in the early 1990′s, he needs to go. And please don’t hide behind the contrived voting record. Keep in mind these score cards are created by Washington DC “conservatives.” These are the same people that cheered the trillions of debt under Bush, attacked those of us who wanted a balanced budget as “extreme” and “radical.” And there was Orrin Hatch supporting every penny of this debt.

Over the years ever major blunder of Washington DC included Orrin Hatch’s “yes” vote. From Medicade Part D and it’s twenty TRILLION liability, to No Child Left Behind, to massive extensions of the debt ceiling, etc, etc, etc, etc. Every defining issue that created the harm we now find ourselves in now was supported by Hatch. And every 6-years we are subject to his massive spin machines.

Take his current Balanced Budget Amendment. It has a hole in it so big you could drive the entire US Navy through it. And it is not just a hole, it becomes an excuse for debt to grow for ever. It becomes are final act of destruction.

This article is NOT about Hatch though its clear his minnions are out in force. If you attempt to hijack articles anywhere in RedState I will openly respond. I suggest you save your blather and distortions for articles just about Hatch.

    Until we meet again…

Seems she mentioned Komen and somehow gets the blame without a named source nor a fair sense of journalism. not that the HuffBlo was founded in jorunalism. Saw this o a n CNN interview with Soledad O’Brien this morning. Seems the moonbats want Handel fired without any facts.

Whatever roles Handel had, kudos, I didn’t voter for her for governor but she deserves credit if she had a role even though the decision was reversed.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/02/05/karen-handel-susan-g-komen-decision-defund-planned-parenthood_n_1255948.html

But a Komen insider told HuffPost on Sunday that Karen Handel, Komen’s staunchly anti-abortion vice president for public policy, was the main force behind the decision to defund Planned Parenthood and the attempt to make that decision look nonpolitical.

“Karen Handel was the prime instigator of this effort, and she herself personally came up with investigation criteria,” the source, who requested anonymity for professional reasons, told HuffPost. “She said, ‘If we just say it’s about investigations, we can defund Planned Parenthood and no one can blame us for being political.’”

  • colonelflagg

… is that the link between Komen and the culture of death known as Planned Parenthood is now writ large for all to see.

  • adair

Well, since the contributions-du-outrage from the pro-choicers after that news broke total some $3,000,000, couldn’t Komen claim that that should take care of the next 6 years of contributions from them?

Obviously, with that windfall PP truly doesn’t need money from Komen.

  • fredflinstone

Beware also that United Way also contributes to Planned Parenthood. I haven’t given to them in years for that very reason. Designating the money to a specific target doesn’t help. Any money they get frees up a dollar to spend on abortion.
