David DewCrist’s Health Care Problem

David DewCrist . . . er . . . Dewhurst is Texas’s Lieutenant Governor and is running for the United States Senate against RedState endorsed Ted Cruz. Lt. Gov. DewCrist has been making sure local news outlets in Texas understand he understands healthcare. He has studied healthcare. In fact, Dewhurst has joined up with a top expert to figure out how to save costs in healthcare.

There’s just one problem.

David DewCrist’s top advisor is a man named Guy Clifton. Mr. Clifton “was a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy Fellow in Congress, assigned to Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah.” Oh, and Mr. Clifton and David DewCrist were in a “years-long collaboration” according to DewCrist.

What the Lieutenant Governor did not discuss was that Dr. Clifton is an advocate of the individual mandate.

It really is amazing these experts and a lot of politicians on both sides of the aisle up until 2010 were all in favor of the individual mandate even though its constitutionality is dubious. But hey, no one reads the constitution anymore. It’s too old.

that anyone can see who knows how the market operates is this: they make prices go up. Regardless of the Constitutional questions, which you might ignore from a state perspective, mandates are a bad idea generally, and in health insurance in particular. No one should have missed that..

    Looking at you, Mitt.

    And you, David Dewhurst.

    Hi, Newt.

of the problem with Lt. Gov. Dewhurst and those like him. He is definitely right leaning, and has not been a trainwreck in office. But he is right out of the Bush family mode where you will agree with the man on most things, and he generally he says the right thing to appeal to conservatives, but you sense that his core is not conservative. His core is big government Republican. There is a reason he is loath to debate Ted Cruz, Craig James, Mayor Leppert on more than a VERY limited basis. I am for Cruz in this race, but like James. Leppert was a decent Dallas mayor, but Leppert’s support for a tax-payer funded hotel in the city has killed any support he might have had from me.-You see in Leppert what you see in Dewhurst: politicians who are unafraid to push for bigger, more intrusive government when they feel goal is laudable.

I am inclined to agree with your statements. I did not realize that David Dewhurst knew anything about healthcare. I do know he is retired CIA. Don’t know what he did there. Agree that Leppert was not a bad Dallas Mayor. However, there is no question that Ted Cruz is by far the best of the delegates. Hopefully, TX will benefit from his many skills as a needed conservative Senator
