1. The Extraordinary Nature of the Texas Runoff

It is hard to overstate just how extraordinary Ted Cruz’s underdog entry into the Texas runoff is and just how the odds are still stacked against him unless conservatives rally quickly with lots of money.

David Dewhurst has been Lt. Governor of Texas for more than a decade. He has massive name ID throughout the state. Ted Cruz started this race with a three or four percent showing in polling.

More so, Dewhurst is a multimillionaire who can write large sums of money to fund his campaign. Ted Cruz cannot. Texas has several of the most expensive media markets in the country and the state is too large to go door to door across the state.

2. AP: Bureau of Labor Statistics confirms Wisconsin job growth.

Readers might remember – certainly The Weekly Standard [TWS] did – that beleaguered Democratic Wisconsin gubernatorial recall candidate Tom Barrett has called into question Republican Scott Walker’s contention that the Bureau of Labor Statistics [BLS] had reported Wisconsin had actually gained jobs in 2011, instead of the loss of jobs that had been previously reported from another source. Actually, ‘called into question’ is too mild a term; Barrett more or less called Walker a liar.

3. Don’t Bring Back Earmarks!

Some members of congress are trying to reopen the earmark ban through an obscure legislative process. For many conservatives, the two-year moratorium on the practice of earmarking was the signature accomplishment of the new House majority elected in 2010. Yet, the current legislative push by involving Miscellaneous Tariff Bills (MTBs) is being used by the Washington establishment to reopen that moratorium and roll back conservative advances.

4. Law of Sea Treaty A Back Door For Cap And Trade

Conn Carroll had an excellent piece at the Washington Examiner yesterday titled “Obama’s Lame Duck Plan To Pass Cap And Trade.” Carroll makes the case that Senator John Kerry (D-Mass.) may use the Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST) as a back door to implement cap and trade regulations on United States citizens.

Mike Brownfield of The Heritage Foundation (my employer) wrote a short history of LOST the day before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing last Wednesday.

Mitt will have to counter this himself.

GOP state Rep. Mike Bost got on the state floor and got a little torqued, to put it mildly, over reforms regarding pension plans and the taxes to pay for them.

I wish I could do the embed thing. And I wish I saw this from Boehner and the bunch.

I don’t exactly understand the pensions bill, but I do sympathise with Mike Bost and his constituents who have to stand against Chicago party bosses.

Okay, I’m not familiar with the credibility of Bloomberg….but this article outlines what the admin (with the help of some of their buddies) are planning to do if SCOTUS strikes down parts of O-care.

    http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-06-01/obama-tells-donors-health-care-fight-may-loom-after-court-rules.html

Any way to make a preemptive move on these plans, folks? Maybe dig back through the events in 2010, Pelosi’s famous “We have to pass it to know what’s in it”, remind people about “deem and pass” behind closed doors, Stupak’s famous “pro-life pledge” that was going to get signed in exchange for those votes, the Nebraska and LA deals, “if you want your coverage, you get to keep it”, etc.?

Also, drawing from info that has come out since then about the costs of the programs, how it isn’t doing what it claimed it would do in reducing health insurance/health care costs, how the number people covered under health insurance has decreased rather than increased, etc.?

  • checkmate2012

to strike the whole bill, unlike Pelosi’s 6-3 to keep it since “she knows the Constitution” Yeah right. Voting O out is our preemptive solution unless the SC does the right thing.

  • lineholder

than end up taking a reactive one. In other words, frame the argument in advance ourselves rather than waiting for the left to do it.

  • mikeymike143

    go mitt go!!!

  • checkmate2012

point of view, unlike what Boehner already leaked, i.e. keep the “good parts” as a response if it’s struck down- yuk.

Communicate that it’s an individual’s right with ttheir Doc and gov’t shouldn’t be involved. There are many good ways to frame it but polls show that most are against it.

W/o the time of a long post, make it about freedom & at min. competition across state lines. Many more ideas but start there.

  • checkmate2012

on his own political play turf.Seeing Axelrod lose a few wheels in Boston and then Romney show up at bankrupt Solyndra was priceless and very savvy! Love it.

Watch it all the way through. This is one of the reason’s I absolutely despise (with a blatantly obvious passion) the deceitfulness of the left on the issue of abortion. Sooner or later, especially if O-care stands, they’re going to want to start using genetic marker testing via amniocentesis for the purpose of defining who should and/or should not have the right to life.

We’d miss out on experiences like what happens in this video…and yeah, it matters a lot, to more people than just Matt. So no matter what else we might succeed or fail in doing…we can’t let them define the value of life. We HAVE to see through the lies.

  • mikeymike143

but edwards is a democrat so they will pretty much bury this story

  • commonsenseobserver

Any health care reform package will have to address those issues. As well as the complicated exclusion system which benefits higher earners disproportionately. There should be a means-tested tax credit for taxpayers and dependents, and Medicaid should either be block-granted or converted into an interstate premium support system.

  • mikeymike143

thank you so much for posting that, my friend.

It would do us all good to watch something like this every day, wouldn’t it?

This young man, and so many others, literally personify what the human spirit means…determined, strong-willed, unwilling to accept defeat…yet inspiring so many around them as well!!

let me again thank you for posting that, the ending clearly shows god at work, (at least thats the way i see it).

By ‘portability’, I mean require coverage of per-existing conditions but only if the condition was covered by a prior insurer…. And perhaps, set a uniform ‘wait’ for a condition to become covered if there was no prior insurer (eg, after being with an insurer for 5 (or maybe 3) years, all conditions become covered)

The biggest thing we could do for health-reform, is incentivize individual plan purchasing over group plans.
