1. For Conservatives, August Begins and Ends in Florida

At the end of August, Republicans will gather in Tampa, FL to nominate Mitt Romney for President. But at the beginning of August, Conservatives will gather in Jacksonville, FL for the RedState Gathering.

We’re going to have RNC Chairman Reince Priebus, Florida Governor Rick Scott, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, Senator Ron Johnson, former Georgia Secretary of State Karen Handel, along with a number of candidates including Joe the Plumber, Ted Cruz, and more.

There’ll also be a few big names attending who we will announce in the coming week. We’re also going to throw in, free of charge, activist training from American Majority. It is, bar none, the best training you can get as we try to take back the Senate and White House.

You are not going to want to miss it. I’ll be there as well.

Remember, unlike any other conference, the RedState Gathering happens because the politicians and candidates want to meet you. There is no fancy stage. There is no big divide between you and the candidates. Every person who speaks is required to take 15 minutes of their time to answer your questions. The candidates and politicians pay their own way and answer your questions because they value the authentic grassroots conservatives who make up the RedState readership. It helps us keep your costs down and your access up.

But time is running out. You only have a couple weeks left to get a super deal on the hotel and a discounted registration rate. Go here now to register for the 2012 RedState Gathering.

You won’t want to miss it. See you in Jacksonville, FL on August 2nd as we begin the march to Tampa and our campaign to take back the White House.

2. More Proof We Need More Conservatives in Congress

Every Republican swears up and down that he/she supports limited government, a balanced budget, and free markets. Yet, once again, only a fraction of Republicans in Washington were able to stand for those ideals. The House and Senate passed the Obama highway bill/student loan stimulus on Friday with overwhelming majorities in both houses of Congress.

3. Repeat after me: THE OBAMACARE ‘MANDATE’ WAS ACTUALLY A TAX.

And that affects profoundly the question of how to get rid of it. Mickey Kaus is correct, and Ryan Lizza & David Frum are wrong on this: the only reason that Obamacare was not cast down was because the US Supreme Court decided 5-4 that the so-called ‘individual mandate’ was constitutional if it was considered to be a tax. The US Supreme Court also decided, 5-4, that the so-called ‘individual mandate’ was not Constitutional if done under the Commerce Clause. So anyone who wants to argue that the Obamacare health tax is not actually a tax must also admit that Obamacare is unconstitutional. Supporters of Obamacare do not get to have it both ways. The Supreme Court has ruled that Obamacare’s centerpiece is a half trillion dollar tax hike on the middle class. This is a thing that has happened. And it means, among other things, that the Democrats’ threat of a filibuster is an empty one when it comes to repealing it next January. We have a Senate majority, we can remove the health tax. Simple as that.

4. The Supreme Court’s Disappointing Tax Ruling

The ruling that Obamacare’s individual mandate exceeded Congress’ power under the Commerce Clause showcased the Supreme Court at its intellectual best: the fruits of years of detailed and heated scholarly and judicial debate, intensive briefing and vigorous argument were reflected in the various opinions. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of the Court’s opinions on the alternative ground – the taxing power – that Chief Justice Roberts and the Court’s four Democratic appointees found to be an alternative basis for the mandate. Critics on the Right have assumed that Roberts is wrong about the taxing power, and the cheerleaders on the Left are simply pocketing the result, but neither the various opinions nor most of the commentary have bothered to explain a theory of what Congress can and cannot constitutionally do through its power to tax.

5. Arkansas Democrat Puts On A Weird Show

I just … I don’t even … wut? The above video shows Democrat State Senator Gene Jeffres, who is running for Congress in Arkansas against Republican Tom Cotton, answering a question about healthcare. The first weird thing Jeffres did was get down on his knees in front of a woman, like maybe he was going to whisper the secret 11 herbs and spices to her. The second weird thing he did was assert that Germany has provided for the healthcare of their citizens for “centuries”. No wait, sorry. The first weird thing he did was to choose to wear that suit.

6. Holder’s Contempt Citation Could Give New Meaning to “House Arrest”

I’ll give you two disclaimers here: 1) I am nowhere near as well-versed on the Fast & Furious events as folks here like Moe & Jeff, so this piece won’t help anyone understand the events behind that, and 2) I Am Not A Lawyer…and there’s a lot of lawyerly stuff here.

With that out of the way … when the Holder contempt of Congress vote first came up, I asked my attorney buddies here on RS a question: if Holder is found in criminal contempt of Congress, who is going to enforce it? It’s not likely that a representative of the Department of Justice is going to swoop in and arrest their own boss. So what happens? The consensus was – there’s not a lot that can be done.

Let’s just pour out the treasure trove of facts on the Medicare cuts and the special interest lobbying behind the bill. We really need to expose those, especially the latter. The LSM has kept trying to suppress it- we need to bring this news directly to the American people, along with the seven different taxes.

Wondering if this had anything to do with the site’s troubles???

Starting with Governor Christie who asks a reporter “Are You Stupid?” This is like the best question ever to ask all the left wing radicals calling themselves reporters. Seriously, everytime Ezra Klein or Donna Brazile appear on television, the first question should be “Are You Stupid” Bravo, Governor Christie!!!!

At the top, in it’s ongoing editoral refusal to cover Fast and Furious, other than to say it is a cooked up, political hatchet job by Congressman Issa, Politico runs a piece on the VP which manages to sink to new lows of stupidity even for Politico.

To the terror of RINOs everywhere, Jim DeMint has severed ties with the Senate Conservatives Fund so that it may become a Super Pac. Senator DeMint will “advise” the Super Pac and it will be run by long time DeMint operative, Matt Hoskins.

Barack Obama is running ads in Spanish trying to lock up the Hispanic vote. Of course, the endorsers are celebrites like the guy best known for being married to J-Lo. I bet one ad we won’t see from Obama is “Mexican Drug Cartels have slaughtered 50,000 Mexicans in the drug wars….Barack Obama sold them the guns and then covered it up.” Oh and by the way, Hispanic unemployment = 11%.

In an uh oh in the previous story, Politico isn’t even smart enough to realize there might be trouble in Hispanic paradise for the Obama Reign that only 45% of registered Hispanic voters consider themselves in the bag for Obama.

The GOP in Virginia is up to the dirty trick of accusing the man chosen by Barack Obama to be the National Chairman of the Democratic Party of being closely aligned to Obama.

Rupert Murdoch wants Romney to change advisors. I hear Steve Schmidt and Nicolle Wallace are available. (Comment: that is #sarcasm. Considering their “performance” in charge of the McCain campaign, Schmidt and Wallace should never be put in charge of anything more important than coffee and doughnuts and then be heavily supervised in that role.)

White House Chief of Staff, Jack Lew says “it’s a penalty, it’s not a tax”. Repeat after me: “IT’S A TAX”; it was always a tax.

Eric Fehrnstrom commits an unforced error calling it a penalty. Listen it’s a tax. The IRS is enforcing it. It was always a tax;calling it a penalty was the Obama Reign’s dodge to give “Blue Dogs” political cover. Fehrnstrom is starting to get to Joe Biden level gaffe machine. Luckily, he committed the error on the Daily Rundown so more people read my recap, than saw Fehrnstrom’s error.

Then, Nancy Pelosi goes and admits that the Obama Tax will be enforced in the Tax Code and that it is a ta…(she stopped herself but clearly, it’s a tax;it was always a tax”). Now, let’s start talking about the massive hidden taxes on insurance companies, drug companies, and medical supples that will be passed onto the consumer.

Charles Schumer says repeal of Obamacare would be a disaster for the GOP. Seriously, Schumer only has the GOP’s best interest at heart.

Oh and Politico says that Obama Care is now even more popular with all American citizens even Republicans since Roberts’ ruling. I can’t even make this up; but I almost have to admire the chutzpah required to tell that lie.

Simon says it’s all Bush v Gore’s fault that SCOTUS is losing credibility i.e. the court is only credible when it agrees with him. (By the way, Simon is stupid).

Finally, MSNBC’s RINOs RINO who is not even self aware enough to know he is a RINO, little Joey Scarborough carries MSNBC’s water crying about Romney (to look impartial he also cries about Obama).

There it is Politico today: 7/2/2012. I read Politico so you don’t have too.

    :) ,

the title of your comment grabbed my attention. So I like that as well.

Are you stupid was enough to have me laughing all the way through it and really there is comedy gold in Politico (if you take Politico for the joke it is, rather than expect anything resembling serious reporting).

This message has to be hammered to college students.

  • earlgrey

for a donation and after seeing Shriver take on Toure on Newsbusters, I had to pitch in.

Odd that Republicans as a hold seem to have been doing very little to attract colllege students and youth vote or do you see that as changing?

TN– has some issues w/ our republican leadership, IMO. So I am glad to see something good. I heard an ad for Corker yesterday and turned it off.

  • Melody Warbington (rwm52)

as well, and I try to chip in when I can. I’m encouraged by what I see on the ground re outreach to young people, at least from the GOP in Alabama. Our Teenage Republican groups are growing.

Not at all happy with the GOP leadership in TN. Haslam is the disappointment I expected, Corker has disappointed, and Lamar is a downright disgrace. Who is the guy you mentioned as challenging Corker? I need to spread the word.

  • tnfriendofcoal101368

With all the furor over the Supreme Court, for most the economy will still be the number one issue and that is a winner for us every day ending in Y and twice on November 6th. Here is a link to a NY Times story via cnbc.com where even the Times admits…the youth vote might not be as reliable as Chicago hopes and certainly not as passionate as the wave that carried him into office.

Obama is the Websters Dictionary definition of buyers remorse.

Zach Poskevich for US Senate http://www.zachforsenate.com/

Also if you know anyone in HD 45 (currently Maggart) tell them to vote Rogers in the primary.

  • Melody Warbington (rwm52)

I know a few folks in the Hendersonville area.

Looks like Poskevich has been all over the state, and he seems to be winning a lot of straw polls. He surely wouldn’t be any worse than Corker, and it would send a big message to Lamar if we could kick Bob out.
