going to be at that August 2nd gathering. It’s going to be a great time. Lots of ideas and strategies are going to be disucssed. The “rally” cry will go forth into the land. If you happen to live in that area or near by, you’ll probably be able to attend. For those of us farther away actually suffering from job loss problems, depleted savings and increase in goods needed to survive daily – it just seems like just another group of well off Republicans getting together to preach to the choir.

That sounded a little angry, sorry. Am getting tired of these wonderful events being out of reach to the common man, or woman. Those of us who are truly stuggling and not on the dole, will not be able to attend. Somewhat like those great cruises offered once a year or so…where’s the common man at that event? Could it possible that we have great ideas also, maybe even a few that would benefit the GOP?

For me the Republican party is just as out of touch as the democrats when it comes to how the grassroots struggle in this economy. I suppose the time spent at this big event will be worthwhile for that upper echelon of our party but the rest of us, well, who cares anyway! Our input is probably not worth the waste of their time. Geesh, we’re not dumb, some of us are pretty astute.

then there was an incident where somehow Erick had his endorsement of a contest participant tied into the event which she was trying to win a trip to. That would be this event. When he was notified he reacted but the damage had already been done. When someone’s ethics come into question, whether it be that individual or someone who claims to be a close associate, I prefer to shy away. I’ll stay away from RedState gatherings myself.

On a Hannity panel David Limbaugh addressed the talk around the loop holes of an expanded IRS that will require taxpayers prove they have health insurance. Then IRS verifies the taxpayer has health insurance with new intrusive agents. If the taxpayer does provide proof of an insurance policy then the IRS withholds refunds. if that fails IRS sends a threatening letter.

This Obamacares ‘show me your papers’ policy by IRS agents first appears in April 2015 through 2016 when ACA is implemented fully.

But, say some apologists, the IRS has no teeth to come after you and so on.

How quick we bend to tryanny, Limbaugh said. Something along that line.

David saw the tyranny not the so called silver lining of the apologists who think we can live with the IRS demanding we prove we have insurance. or else.

    They already got us!

What format would you prefer that is cheaper, convenient and for the same lenght of time?

  • earlgrey

for someone to attend. I’ll be traveling for my job and won’t be able to attend. I can’t pick up the full tab of an attendee, and I can’t pay travel costs, but I’d be willing to help someone out to get there.

  • http://www.nighttwister.com NightTwister

Geesh, we?re not dumb, some of us are pretty astute.

I checked Hotwire and found a hotel near the Gathering for $50 per night. I’m sure you could also ask here if anyone is interested in sharing a room to bring those costs down even more.

You could take the bus to Jacksonville to save money. Sure, it takes longer, and isn’t the greatest way to travel. You might also ask here if anyone else is planning to drive and you could share the cost with them.

I don’t know about the conference fee, but it wouldn’t hurt to ask if you could get a reduced rate due to your financial circumstances. I can’t speak for him, but Erick is a pretty reasonable guy.

I’m sure if you really wanted to go you could find a way to do it within your budget. But hey, whining about it is free, right?

I’m not “well off” nor the upper echelon of anything. I had to budget for the event and used up a couple of vacation days. My husband helped out by chipping in for my birthday.

I wrote a series of diaries about RSG03 (you can find them under my profile) which might give you a little insight on the event. There were several training sessions in addition to the speakers. I made several contacts through which I’ve shared information since then in an effort to advance the conservative cause. I consider that invaluable and worth every penny it cost me to attend.

Moreover, this is not a “Republican” gathering. It is a “conservative” gathering.

  • Melody Warbington (rwm52)

Any evidence of your accusation? And if you find EE’s ethics so questionable, why are you even here? Why not stay away from redstate altogether? I’m sure we can get along without you.

  • Melody Warbington (rwm52)

Hope you weren’t affected by the fires.

  • http://www.nighttwister.com NightTwister

Thanks for asking. The High Park fire got within about 3 miles of my house, but there’s a natural barrier (Horsetooth Reservoir) between that area and the city, so we were never in any danger. I know of at least one co-worker that lost his house.

In February or March I checked Greyhound for some routes and fees for a cousin who wanted to take a bike trip and stop to viist our large family from IL, KY to Ohio. I had once traveled with a companion rate and we loved the scenic ride to La Crosse in the fall 2001.

I found in Feb or March this year that Greyhound online had once again not just one companion rate which is two for the price of one, but up to four companions. A traveler could also book hotels. Greyhound also has many discounts for military, seniors, vets, students.

Anyone who wants to take a Bus should check out the companion fees and discounts to Tampa early and maybe travel with a buddy or loved one for the price of one. And if its a long trip the bus company allows hotel bookings.

If RS sets up a fund with a donate button I would contribute to a fund to help cover expenses for RS travelers.

I wish you folks would get together and talk and moan a bit, and not just sit around the house, watching the TV and drinking beer. It’s good for the economy for you to travel, and is otherwise harmless. Will you return to tell us about the Dewhurst committment to Eisenhower-style Marxism? And how Obama is forcing all of us to embrace whatever you think he’s forcing? I really enjoy spy thrillers. Thanks so much, Eric.

Because surely you weren’t stupid enough to think we’d let it stay.

Oh, wait – you admitted you’re a Democrat.

Never mind, you probably were stupid enough.

  • CincoSolas_del_Bronx

Prayed for your safety at the time but didn’t know CO geography well enough to imagine what the situation would look like on the ground.

  • thefrogprince

In fact, the evening it happened Erick responded to the Tweet that went out. It isn’t Erick’s ethics that I question but Erick knows exactly who was responsible for the misconduct.

We can also get along without you Melody,. RedState is viable but everyone isn’t on the up and up as they should be. Maybe including you?

  • emptybucket

have read the responses and think it might be possible that I’ve landed in an area where trying to come up with a few hundred bucks extra is no big deal to most blogging here.

Am not a whinner but I suppose if you want to think that way nothing I will write will change that. Interesting that I could not express the viewpoint of someone living near the poverty level without the type of feedback received. To ride a bus over 1000 miles is not something I can do or afford. And yes, I’m sure someone going would share expenses regarding the hotel room, as so many who comment here seem not only generous but helpful as well.

If I struck a nerve, certainly apolize for that. Regarding a cheaper location, I guess it depends on where in the US you live. Maybe I dream of a time where these big gatherings are held in more than one place. Just call me less than astute and probably dumb! No wait, a few of you already did.

Apparently there was a contest from the group Let Freedom Ring.

The contest was that each contestant linked to a video and whoever generated the most jumps through won.

One of our users posted a friend’s RT noting she had breast cancer, couldn’t afford the RS Gathering, so please watch this video to help.

I never clicked through. I just assumed it was a personal appeal for help. I didn’t know jack about the contest.

This guy was doing well until I retweeted.

  • emptybucket

reading and learning more about RS and you are right, conservative, not Republican. If only the Republicans would be Conservative. Thanks again.

  • emptybucket

figure a bus ride out. I dismissed going on a bus but if it is cheap enough, um I have to rethink this. Glad I posted as the input has gotten me outside the box I guess I put myself in. Going online to check Greyhound out.

  • Melody Warbington (rwm52)

you kinda have to be on the up and up. Of course, those who don’t can toss around innuendo and make snide comments about questionable ethics while hiding behind the curtain. You implied guilt by association which apparently is unfounded per EE’s explanation below.

I have no doubt redstate can get along just fine without me, but I plan on sticking around as long as they’ll let me. I’ve made some fine friends here and at RSG03 last year.

  • Melody Warbington (rwm52)

I think the problem with your comments is your assumption that folks who went to previous gatherings didn’t have to budget or sacrifice. I was fortunate to be close enough to make it affordable for me last year, but as I said, I had to budget for it. Plus, we all paid the same and were treated accordingly. No special seating or anything like that.

I believe the first RSG was in Atlanta, the year after in Texas (not sure), and last year’s was in Charleston, so they do move around. I hope there’ll be one near you in the future.

  • westcoastpatriette

I’d much rather keep Melody and dump you any day. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Get lost.

  • http://www.nighttwister.com NightTwister

It was bad up here, but nothing like CO Springs. Some people there only had 15 minutes to evacuate and most in that development lost everything. It’s hard to describe how hot and dry it’s been here, but thankfully we’ve gotten a good amount of rain the past few days. That’s certainly helped.

For me it was mostly an inconvenience (smoke in the air and detours). For many others, it was much more.

  • thefrogprince

Since Erick has my email address he knows exactly who I am since I use that as my name there. I don’t give it to busy bodies like you which is what you give the appearance of being.

Furthermore, Erickson hasn’t apparently bothered, nor do I expect him to, to communicate with the principles involved, other than myself, about what was done and how inappropriate it was. You lack facts Melody which is usually the case with busy bodies.

I read Erick’s explanation and accepted it at the time. I also believe that he didn’t take the next step in the process of correcting what happened. That would have been easy to do and the correct thing to do. His explanation mirrors our conversation, part of it anyway.

  • tnfriendofcoal101368

Please feel free to correct me if I left anything out. The folks at Let Freedom Ring ran a contest with the goal of driving internet traffic to a couple of web commercials that they produced (which are awesome by the way – I have them embedded below and encourage everyone to add them to their facebook pages and twitter feeds). You were to quote Lou Brown “a contender” to win the contest until one of Erick’s friends asked him to retweet to encourage his followers to go see the video. Erick having 1000′s of followers on twitter pretty much ended your dreams of a free trip to Jacksonville or Washington even though he in his own words didn’t know squat about a contest. Did I miss anything?

I ask because the folks at Let Freedom Ring were probably hoping by how the contest was set up, that it ended up being tweeted by someone exactly like Erick Erickson because the goal was to drive traffic to the videoes which Ericks’s retweet did. Erick’s retweet was entirely in line with the goals of the contest and would have been appropriate even had he known about the contest which he didn’t. You didn’t get cheated; you just lost. In fact, you remind me of Big Eddie’s crying how money in Wisconsin cheated.

    Now to the two videos

    Lost

with no facts or evidence, and now you whine because I challenged you. You chose to imply to the readers that there were things going on behind the scenes to put the event itself in question. You could very well have contacted Erick in private to hash this out. Can’t have it both ways.

However, feel free to have the last word if that will make you feel better. I trust Erick, the front pagers here and the redstate community much more than someone with a history of about a dozen comments, and I’m quite confident in their integrity and how they choose to plan their events.
