1. The Argument

Saturday on Twitter, my buddy Tom Crowe summed up what the two Presidential campaigns are all about:

So #2012election comes down to GOP: “We trust you.” vs. Dems: “Trust us.”

This should not be a hard sell.

Americans remain pessimistic about the economy and future.

The news continues to be bad.

And in Barack Obama’s America, it is no longer enough to work hard to succeed. You also have to make a campaign donation to Obama for America.

2. Greater Risk. Greater Reward.

I expected Mitt Romney to pick Bob McDonnell as his running mate. I’ve said repeatedly that my two choices were either Bobby Jindal or Paul Ryan, but I expected Bob McDonnell. I’m delighted I got who I wanted and not who I expected. Paul Ryan is a daring choice.

I’ve talked to a lot of Republicans over the weekend and 48 hours after Paul Ryan stepped out at the USS Wisconsin to become Mitt Romney’s running mate, there is a rumbling of nervous excitement, but also some serious worry. There is a pretty clear consensus that Paul Ryan as the veep pick was actually a dangerous and very risky pick signaling Romney’s internal polling might not be so great in swing states. At the same time, everyone largely acknowledges that there is, in the greater risk of the pick, a greater reward if the Romney-Ryan ticket wins.

3. These are the words of a man who should be (Vice) President

Last week Charles Krauthammer wrote a column that I consider one of his best in quite a while, titled “The case against re-election.” In it, he examined Obama’s failed programs and legislation and the potential campaign strategy for Mitt Romney. Krauthammer’s most important point focused on how important it is for Mitt Romney – and now Paul Ryan – to campaign against Obama on ideological grounds.

4. Obama cuts Medicare more than Romney would

To borrow a phrase from President Reagan, there they go again.

As soon as Mitt Romney announced Congressman Paul Ryan as his vice presidential running mate the Democrats again started with their debunked and discredited MediScare campaign. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee called Ryan “the architect of the Republican plan to kill Medicare” in a fundraising message sent by DCCC Executive Director Robby Mook. A false charge that the left-leaning Politifact called the 2011 “lie of the year.”

5. Beyond Boycotting, Upset Unions to Picket DNC’s Charlotte Convention

Despite throwing 400,000 foot soldiers into the effort to re-elect Barack Obama, union bosses are apparently still seething at the DNC’s decision to hold its convention in a [gasp!] Right-to-Work state.

Last year, when the DNC announced that it would be holding its convention in Charlotte, North Carolina—the least unionized state in the nation (in a stadium built by non-union labor!)—several unions claimed they would be boycotting the convention.

The boycott, according to USA Today, is hampering the DNC’s fundraising efforts.

6. Does Drilling in ANWR Make More Sense than the Alaskan Offshore?

At this writing, Shell Oil is awaiting final permits from the Department of the Interior and EPA to drill two of five wells in the Arctic Ocean offshore Alaska that were originally planned for 2012. Later than normal breakup of pack ice also caused Shell some delays.

they also endorsed ted cruz. lets hope we get the same results in wisconsin. :)

I saw an interview with Rebecca Kleefisch yesterday and one with Reince Priebus this morning. Both were outstanding. Kleefisch is a smart, articulate woman who makes the GOP look good. Reince is re-establishing my trust in the RNC. In the interview today, he went so far as to say that Obama should stop telling lies.

Scott Walker has been a star all year, and now we’ve got Paul Ryan in the spotlight.

How can a purple state deliver such stalwarts of conservatism while we have squishy moderates sprinkled throughout Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia and other southern states? Maybe we should send our reps up north for a while.

over again. Am hopeful but have a hard time believing that we can actually get the guy out of office.

Hey, have a question for you. Who is this Joe Doakes you see blogging all over the place? Seems like a crackpot but I like to ask the ones who know. Thanks, Elaine

  • westcoastpatriette

in fact, have never heard the name. Does he blog here? I have not been here that much recently as I have been more busy than usual. Sorry, cannot help with that one.

  • checkmate2012

than the peanut farmer!!! Keep the hope and faith e’bucket and give the prez a pink slip. Afterall, he’s caused so many he needs to know what it feels like…I do.

  • http://impudent.edublogs.org/ kyle8

He is not quite as bad as Carter, not yet. Our economy has not totally tanked and we are not quite yet the laughing-stock of all our foreign enemies. Nor did he put into place price controls causing long gas lines.

No, still not as bad as the worthless one. It remains to be seen if he will as an expresident go around verifying corrupt elections of third world dictators and badmouthing his own country.

  • checkmate2012

our economy hasn’t totally tanked is dumbfounding. Also, we are the laughing stock of the world. Ask Russia, N. Korea, Afghan, Iraq, and many others if his words or Hillary’s, “we strongly condemn that” mean a darn thing. The answer is no as this is the most incompetent admin on foreign and domestic policy ever in our history.

    Yeah, we’eve tanked alright.

I do agree with Carter’s disgusting post-presidency rants and said so recently here. He’s a loser but O is worse.

I’m glad someone’s world is rosy and happy and has escaped the tyranny and hopelessness this prez has caused millions. Congrats!

Europe? The EU is at each other’s throats, and will be for the forseeable future.

China? Massive construction bubble. There is a reason why the Chinese are overinvesting in green energy—they are essentially throwing money at everything.

Russia? Putin is facing internal opposition and ridicule.

Iran? Their proxy is getting his @$$ kicked.

Canada and Switzerland stand out as non-sucky countries, and they are quiet about it.

So I agree that given the global context, Obama is not as bad as Carter for the simple reason that the US is not in (relatively speaking) such bad shape. Many people thought the USSR was on the verge of beating us in 1979.

  • Xasteius

with the fact they have to fight for their political lives rather than just going along with what is expected. They couldn’t fly without resistance.

  • http://travismonitor.blogspot.com Freedoms Truth

Carter was a bumbler and Obama hasnt matched that, but then the media has him covered.

But Obama is easily more dangerous to our country. think the worst of Carter and LBJ combined.

  • http://travismonitor.blogspot.com Freedoms Truth

Carter had a lousy economy but this is worse.

the fact that the world economy is sucking wind only proves the point, in the 80s and 90s the USA was powering the global drive forward.

but it is growth. Compared to the Carter years it is a hayride.

And no we are not the laughingstock like we were back then.

Sure they don’t have a lot of respect for Obama, but at least he has continued pursuing terrorists. Carter would have declared peace and invited them all for lunch in the Rose Garden.

And there is no need for the last snarky part of your comments just because I am right and you are wrong.

  • Melody Warbington (rwm52)

which is why, even if we lose against some of those squishy moderates, we need to offer up a challenger more often. At least make them stop and think about the fact that not everybody in their districts are satisfied.

  • http://impudent.edublogs.org/ kyle8

As bad as things are, they are not like they were in late 1970′s

We don’t have double digit unemployment, double digit interest rates, double digit inflation and gas lines.

Really, people Obama is bad enough , there is no need for hyperbole.

  • JSobieski

and the US was in the toilet.

Hardened communist refugees like my father were starting to doubt whether the US had the chops to resist the red tide.

In 1979 we faced a super power opponent with a prospect for world domination. The USSR was flipping dominos in Latin America and Asia.

  • westcoastpatriette

but a “dirty” liar over the pie-in-the-sky-lie Reid made up about Romney not paying taxes for ten years? Loved that one.

  • demsaresatanic

but don?t be so sure that the Obama record is not worse than Carter.

  • Melody Warbington (rwm52)

Thanks for sharing. It warms my heart to see these young guns taking it to the liberals and calling them out for being the liars they are. I have to believe it will embolden others to do the same. When you see that others have your back, it gives you courage to speak out.

I spoke with my wallet on Saturday by donating to the campaign, plus I ordered a couple of buttons and decals. I figure that was the quickest and surest way to communicate to Romney that I approve of his choice and the message it sends. Apparently, so did a bunch of others.

  • http://travismonitor.blogspot.com Freedoms Truth

Inflation was bad then, BUT …
job creation and economic growth was higher in Carter years then under Obama.

When I say Obama is the worst I base it on factual data, like the fact that fewer people are working now than when he was elected… this hasnt been the case under Carter or any other President. … and the fact that economic growth has had the worst 4 year trend in a generation.

If you’ve seen the chart that shows this the ‘worst recovery’ since WWII you’d know immediately waht I mean.

If anything, you are hyperbolizing the badness of the Carter years. It was bad, but Obama’s record is badder.

  • http://travismonitor.blogspot.com Freedoms Truth

I dont care what some socialist who loves socialized medicare thinks, I care about the future of the country.

Our futrue made more dire by Obama’s agenda, in particular Obamacare.

also, we equate Carter’s dismal foreign policies to Obama also. Put the 2 side by side and don’t bother with a lot of details as they both define the word failure, IMO of course.
