Tom Cotton Caves On Budget Deal

I’ve mentioned in a previous diary about the correlation that being a super-hawk has with a disrespect for civil liberties and disregard for spending prudence. Look no further than John McCain and Lindsey Graham. It was for this reason I declined to support brand-new Rep. Tom Cotton for Senate.

It turns out he didn’t wait to get to the Senate to demonstrate a lack of fiscal discipline.

Tonight Tom Cotton sided with Boehner, Cantor, and the rest of the spineless establishment in voting for the Democratic budget bill.

Cotton Statement on the Senate’s Spending and Debt Limit Legislation

Washington, D.C.—Congressman Tom Cotton (R-Dardanelle) released the following statement on the Senate’s spending and debt limit legislation:
“I supported legislation tonight to prevent Barack Obama from risking a default on our national debt and to open parts of the government that were temporarily shutdown.  This bill is far from perfect, but it preserves annual spending caps and allows for more negotiation to stop Washington’s out-of-control spending.  Senate Democrats have fought hard for more spending and to protect Obamacare at all costs.  They even voted to keep Congress’s special Obamacare exemption rather than keeping the government open.  I’ll use the time provided by this bill to keep fighting for Arkansas taxpayers who also want to be protected from Obamacare, as well as real spending reforms.”

Oh look-he actually thinks we would default on our national debt if a budget resolution wasn’t reached. That is simply wrong from a legal and economic point of view. It is a liberal media talking point and that is all it is.

Perhaps I am wrong  and deep down Cotton is a fiscal conservative. In which case he sold out in order to get elected to the Senate, which may be even worse.
