Democrats: “Spending For Dummies”

Or: "How to waste someone else's money for profit and pleasure"

We’ve seen it splattered all across the front pages; more spending for jobs, more spending for bailouts, more spending for Unemployment, more spending for Teachers and Unions and special interests. We’ve also seen deficits rise and the National debt reach numbers that don’t fit on WalMart calculators.

America is bankrupt and they (the ruling Political class) don’t even know it…or they don’t seem to care anyway. What else explains why they’d happily starve the “least among us” or force them to trample each other to death, fighting over a paltry scrap from the Master’s table?

And for all that so-called “stimulus” money that promised jobs we still don’t have, homes we still can’t afford, and infrastructure improvements (that would keep America working for a generation) that remain undone, why are we paving roads that cars can’t drive on?? Why do I have to find out about it while skimming state news about National candidates instead of seeing it splattered all across the so-called Media?

Why, with all the troubles and travails our fellow Americans continue to suffer, are we spending $150K on real bridges to nowhere? Granted, my reference is piddly little old New Hampshire…granted it’s a pretty bridge (however useless it might be for improving the lives of the locals) and granted, it’s only $150K; chump change to the rich and powerful to be sure. But I have personally been on this road many times (traveled it often to several sweet fishing spots) and I can tell you the bridge is nice to look at…and of no intrinsic value to our economic recovery. Watch the video…and pay close attention to the pic at the very end.

Hey Harry? Nance? You paying attention to where all our money is going as you spend it willy nilly in that mad dash of yours to cross the finish line first in the General election?

But look on the bright side

Spiral (Diary) Wednesday, August 11th at 8:23PM EDT (link)

You and 300 million other Americans have just been part of a laboratory experiement in Keynsian economics. The hypothesis was that keynsian pump-priming could stimulate the economy.

Borrow a trillion or two trillion dollars from China and the Middle East, spend the money on countless boondoggles and watch the economy rebound.

Oh, wait! The economy hasn’t rebounded much at all. Unemployment is stuck at 9.5 percent and that doesn’t include the over one million people who stopped looking for work over the past three months.

Well, at least Obama’s record on unemployment is better than the failed President George W Bush, right?

Um. Not really. The average unemployment rate during the 8 Clinton years was 5.17 percent. During George W Bush’s 8 years it was 5.31 percent. And during Obama’s time it has been 9.52 percent.

So, on the bright side we can say that we tried the Keynsian route to prosperity and it totally and completely failed. Now we tell all of those rational liberal Democrats out there that we need to look to alternative economic ideas.

Ah, but there are only about 3 rational liberal Democrats left, if that many, and they sure aren’t in Congress.

Keynesian economics has failed every time it's been tried...

rbdwiggins (Diary) Wednesday, August 11th at 9:50PM EDT (link)

How is it possible that Keynesian economists continuously get it so wrong?

Because those who subscribe to the failed economic theory are delusional, and they continuously use the wrong multiplier. For some unknown reason they believe it’s possible for government to take money from one pocket and transfer it to the other pocket and realize a net economic gain that ranges from 25% to 57%. In other words, they use a multiplier that ranges from 1.25 to 1.57.

In reality, the multiplier is 0.80.

To them Reagan’s tax cuts were simply Keynesian stimulus.

The underlying insanity is believing an individual investing their own money is actually less efficient than a federal government that spends in excess of a trillion every year.

Or, deficit spends...

rbdwiggins (Diary) Thursday, August 12th at 12:00AM EDT (link)

We’re $1.169 Trillion in the hole for fiscal 2010, and headed for $1.47 Trillion according to the Obama administration.

Spending has already passed $2.92 Trillion, and employment can’t even keep pace with the population growth. Just more proof that Obamanomics is an abject failure.

How is it that only tax cuts have to be paid-for?

Exactly

And we have FDR, Johnson, Carter, and Obamanation to prove it.

We also have Coolidge, Kennedy, Reagan, and Bush II to prove cutting fed. tax rates produce booms.

We’d still be in a mini-boomlet from Bush II had Fannie and Freddie been reined in, the CRAs didn’t exits, the the nation hadn’t elected a Dem. Congress in 2006. Almost all ec.’s slow at the ends of decades (20th C. pattern), but we would likely have nothing like the mess the Dems. have manufactured had the nation halted in 2005 and not doubled down with Barney Frank and the idjits in charge.

for pointing out the successes of the Bush years. I do not understand how the mainstream media, extreme as they are, can so completely forget the moderately low unemployment under Bush. His economic policy did plenty of good. It was the war cost and the mistaken TARP spending that caused most of the problems in his administration.

As far as Nance, and Harry paying attention: they simply gave the green light on every pork barrel spending tear that ever sat rejected on every incumbent’s to do list of payoffs to their constituents. Obama dutifully looked the other way and proclaimed all spending good.with the constant exhortations and encouragement from McCain’s economic adviser Zandy.

Nancy drained the swamp all right, with a blood-letting of pork barrel spending flooding out all over America to no avail.

Best Campaign Add of 2010

Let us be sure that those who come after will say of us in our time, that in our time we did everything that could be done. We finished the race; we kept them free; we kept the faith.

..but the current GOP certainly doesn’t seem to agree.
They’re all for TAX CUTS. That’s all they seem to be about.
No longer about actual fiscal and social responsibility.

Tax cuts DO NOT pay for themselves. The US of A is in serious trouble, and all the current GOP can do is filibuster and call for tax cuts. Oh, and instill fear about Muslims and Mexicans.

This is NOT the GOP I know, nothing I identify with.
We, the reasonable people need to take it back.

Shea Porter's wasteful expendatures are vast

charliebravoNH (Diary) Wednesday, August 11th at 8:33PM EDT (link)

This is a good ad by Sean Mahoney. Although the bridge mentioned here is in Hillsborough which is Paul Hodes’ district NH -02. Shea Porter still voted for this disgrace when she voted for the stimulus package. She admitted on a morning radio show out of Manchester before the stimulus bill was passed she wasn’t familiar with everything in it.

If I had more time on my hands, I would love to tally the total amount of spending she voted for in her four years in Congress. I am sure it would be staggering.

Carol Shea Porter claimed in 2008 she was standing up for the bottom 99% of us. When you look at this bridge you ask ,99% of who. It sure isn’t the people off NH.

The 99% includes you

jobless Wednesday, August 11th at 9:36PM EDT (link)

Do you have millions, if not billions, of dollars in income?
If not, then that 99% includes you.

The stimulus package was and still is a great idea. It wasn’t big enough. Plus the fact that 1/3 consisted of tax cuts didn’t help.
The Stimulus did what is was supposed to do: save and create jobs.
Tax cuts don’t create jobs – they create wealth/cash.
If the Stimulus had been enough (minimal 1.2 Trillion), if a third hadn’t been taken up by useless tax cuts – it would have done it’s job.

But no, the current GOP is all about tax cuts – they admit they don’t care about deficits as long as tax cuts are involved.
The current GOP is NOT FISCALLY RESPONSIBLE ANYMORE!
I’m sorry to say, but in this current economic crisis – the GOP is simply not the responsible party to vote for.

American Society is falling apart. Infrastructure is not being maintained, let alone being upgraded. Counties and cities across the country are starting to fail to provide basic services.

This may not be a huge issue for the hugely rich – it is a HUGE issue for the other, say, 95 % of us.
Not all of us have a private runway for our private planes…../snark.

True Conservatives need to speak up – LOUDLY.

Now that we find out what Newt Gingrich stands for, it seems an appropriate slogan for the GOP:

DO WHAT I SAY, NOT WHAT I DO.

Stimulus spending

coldair Wednesday, August 11th at 8:33PM EDT (link)

The Libs will tell you this kind of project is hunky-dory because it created jobs for the repair crew – who will now go and spend that money on stuff – thus cycling through, and stimulating, the economy.

Problem is – you can say the same thing for shoveling money out of helicopters.

And the fact is, shoveling money out of helicopters would actually be a better plan. It’s kind of like a tax cut – has much the same effect, except the recipients of the largesse are random, instead of the people who earned it.

Where the bridge thing goes awry is that it uses real resources – building materials and labor – which do not build anything that is, in turn, productive. (This is what the narrator points out when he talks about the opportunity cost of repairing this bridge – when other real, working bridges could have been repaired.)

So, all these activities end up with money in the hands of people who can then go spend it. But that’s the red herring, the fool behind the curtain. The focus of analysis has to be what is directly produced by the outlay of funds. The consequent consumer spending is good, but much more efficiently channeled when done by free enterprise, rather than politicians whose main agenda is re-election.

I agree on all counts, and would add a reminder

Dave Poff (haystack) (Diary) Wednesday, August 11th at 8:39PM EDT (link)

the bridge collapse in Minnesota under Bush’s watch was blamed back then by the Dems on Bush’s lust for war and the need for a never-ending moneysupply to fund it/them….that had he focused that money back home, the bridge would not have collapsed and killed all those people.

This bridge will not kill any people should it collapse…there are plenty others in NH where that is not the case.

I’ve driven by this bridge hundreds of times and always assumed it was left from a time when 202 was relocated to one side and a new bridge built. But other than being picturesque, it’s worthless, not even historically significant. Truly a waste of money to refurbish this – but there’s plenty of blame to spread. Hodes & Shea-Porter didn’t ask for the expenditure – the dimwit lackeys in Concord did. NH has gone straight down the tubes under the tax & spend incompetence of John Lynch. As this example demonstrates, ALL of these “progressive” turkeys, regardless of the level of government, must be thrown into the streets if our nation is to survive.

Logic in the mind of a liberal is like a snowflake in the desert: lost, alone and soon destroyed by a hostile environment.

Lynch has to go

charliebravoNH (Diary) Wednesday, August 11th at 11:19PM EDT (link)

The NH US Senate Primary has gotten too much ink as far as I am concerned. The most important race in NH is the one for Governor. Here in NH the Democrats have controlled the Governors Office for 12 out of the last 14 years. The time for CHANGE is now.
The latest Rasmussen poll has Lynch ahead of John Stephen 50 to 39. That is an eleven point gap. This is as close as anybody has been to Lynch in years. The poll also indicated there was some room to grow for John Stephen as far as his name recognition is concerned.
There is been no Governor of NH in recent years that ever got a fourth term. With the high level of Republican energy this year and the other factors I have listed, this race is ripe for an upset. NH Republicans need to start believing that Lynch can be defeated. We need to say, do I dare say it. YES WE CAN.

“Mahoney said he favors the controversial Arizona crackdown law, but also said his policy is that illegal immigrants should be required to register, pay a fine, pay taxes and be required to “check in on a periodic basis.” While here, they should receive no government-funded services, such as Medicaid. States should decide whether they receive drivers licenses.”

To me it’s either Ashooh or Bestani and I think Ashooh is the best candidate when you look at his overall stance, especially since he favors a strong national defense where we change the rules of engagement to help our troops.

Now You Must Choose...

rainmaker1145 Thursday, August 12th at 11:51AM EDT (link)

You can no longer avoid the work and the obligation – you are going to have to actively participate in your own economic emancipation or accept the reality that the liberal-progressive movement will enact a “benign dictatorship” that will provide a new form of economic feudalism upon us.

This is the actual history of democracies over the past 2,000 years.

Here’s a basic lesson in economics that is unavoidable and indisputable in its implications: if government spending was a real stimulus to the economy, then the results of government spending would be a reduction of dependency upon government. The reduction of dependency upon government would create the outcome of less government spending and a corresponding reduction of the size of government.

Clearly this hasn’t happened. It hasn’t happened because we finance the costs of government using taxation – government is stimulating us with the money it takes from us and it has to keep a part for itself. If we want to change the unavoidable outcome we have to restructure the way we pay for government using investment-income (Lovellian economics – google it) instead of taxation.

Why?

Taxation is a limited resource and investment-income is not (when undertaken using the equity investment method – again, if you want to learn about this look up Lovellian economics) and that is the key.

If you want a different outcome you have to change things. Doing things the same way is fine with the liberal-progressives because they win this game whether the economy recovers or not and whether we have a democracy or not.

You have to choose: do you want an end to our country and way of life or do you want to change things before the end comes?

Choose.
