Saxby Chambliss Does the Right Thing, Re: SWATting

I must admit, I’m happy my state has two Republican Senators, Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson. It’s certainly better than the alternative, whether one or two Democrats. However, there are so many times that I wish they’d give us conservatives more than what they’d do.

So, for once, I am happy to see one of my guys taking the lead on an issue, especially one as dangerous and pressing as SWATting. Sen. Chambliss sent out a press release today saying the following:

Today, U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., sent a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder regarding recent reports that several conservative political commentators have been targeted with harassing and frightening actions. Chambliss demanded that Holder examine these cases to determine if federal laws have been violated.

Thank you, Sen. Chambliss. It’s good to know someone on the Hill is listening. Maybe he can get Orrin Hatch to help get more Senators behind this. I’ve included below the fold some highlights from the former’s letter to Eric Holder on the matter (full version is in the press release).

The use of SWAT-ting as a harassment tool is apparently not new, but its use as a tool for targeting political speech appears to be a more recent development…While these incidences are currently small in number, and have fortunately not led to any accidental physical harm, they are extremely concerning. The perpetrators appear to be targeting individuals who are vigorously exercising their First Amendment rights to political speech…Regardless of any potential political differences that may exist, threats and intimidation have no place in our national political discourse. Those who choose to enter into that political discourse should not have to worry about potential threats to their or their family’s safety.

Preach it, Senator!

Will Eric Holder respond to Chambliss’ letter by the date specified (June 29th, 2012)? If it’s like how he’s responded to the Black Panthers at the voting stations, I wouldn’t hold my breath. Let’s see where this goes, and in the mean time, get in touch with you Senators and Representatives and tell them to follow Senator Chambliss’ lead.

…and I, too, wish they?d (Chambliss & Isakson) give us conservatives more than what they do.

But this action is very appropriate and necessary. It’s not enough to make me wish Senator Chambliss doesn’t lose his next primary election, but more standing up for conservatives like this and that *might* change.

IOW, Senator Chambliss, thank you for this but much of your constituency is over to your Right.

Incidence refers to the Rate of occurrence or effect.

Incident is the occurrence, the happening. The plural of incident is incidents. There are several other definitions of incident, but it would have been correct for Sen. Chambliss’ letter to use incidents.

His salutation to the Attorney General should more correctly have been: Holder you dishonest, anti-Constitutionalistic, deliberately stonewalling, obfuscating coverer-upper of Administration wrong-doing …

…is a “911 emergency” call in which the anonymous caller identifies him/herself as the spouse/family member of an intended target, or as the target, and “reports” a shooting or some sort of mayhem in the target’s home. This, of course, brings armed police to the target’s home, and those police officers have been “alerted” to the possibility of a confrontation with an armed-and-dangerous resident.

is calling 911 via an VOIP devise and pretending that a violent crime is underway at your home. It is designed to have a trigger happy SWAT team arrive at your door and have an “accidental” potentially lethal police over reach occur because the caller disagrees with your political opinion.

Mr. Erickson…I think what they did to you and your family is terrible. Just another way that the Left deals with things.

I too am living in Georgia and Chambliss…I must agree…did the right thing. Lots of luck with having the DOJ do his job.

While I have not been a victim of such a horrible act, my e-mail has been given away to entities that I do not wish for them to have. I have had virus/worms…you name it, put into my computer. I have my fb account listing people that I thought they would never know about and I use my maiden name.
I now have SUPER virus protection, along with two other programs to protect me from this. I even get calls from the DNC and Soros.

This all started when I began to blog on the major papers. This summer, I will have my national blog put up and I will have to call someone to insure that nobody sabotages this computer.

I hope that your family recovers from this…this was terrible and MEAN.

One area I believe the Feds can make a contribution is now very apparent.
I am not sure how to protect our freedoms from idiots without giving up our privacy.
Suggestion 1 is all calls to 911 be backtraced , even cell calls.
2 all false calls be prosocuted as a Felony
3 all false lawsuits be fully paid for by the attorney filling the suit.
      It’s a start.
