From the Diaries by NS
The recent decision by Virginia Senator Jim Webb not to run for reelection was a gift to Republicans. While it is disappointing that we will not be able to give him the electoral defeat he had coming, it guarantees that Jim Webb will no longer be a reliable vote for the Democrats’ disastrous agenda in 2013.
But the real gift is the opportunity this presents to Republicans. The open 2012 Virginia Senate seat is an opportunity for the people to decide on the future of the Republican Party.
In the Republican primary for Senator Webb’s seat, Virginians have a choice: We can vote for the old Washington Establishment or for a new generation of conservative leadership.
I am running to become Virginia’s next Senator because I believe that Republican renewal will come not from the Establishment that created our problems, but from the grassroots movement that has arisen to challenge that failed Establishment.
For more than a decade, the Washington political Establishment – in both parties – has steadily increased spending, burning through our treasury and then borrowing more money from other nations to spend. In the process, we’ve accumulated a $14 trillion national debt and jeopardized America’s financial stability.
Unfortunately, Republicans contributed to this spending binge. Despite their pledges to reduce spending and the debt, the Republicans who ran Washington did not follow through on their promises. They voted for spending that increased our national debate by trillions. They voted for tens of thousands of earmarks. They became a part of the Establishment.
Like the rest of the Washington establishment, the Republican leadership of the past didn’t seem to understand the dangerous situation their actions created for our nation.
Across America, millions of citizens have stood up to reject this Establishment. We have seen the emergence of the Tea Party movement, and I have proudly been a part of this movement, as an organizer and a leader.
In 2010, the Tea Party challenged the Establishment. In 2012, it is time for Tea Party activists to take back the Republican Party from the Establishment.
The Republican Party and Virginia can move forward in a new, responsible direction, guided by Tea Party principles such as Constitutionally limited government, fiscal restraint, free markets, virtue and accountability. With $14 trillion in debt, we literally cannot afford to go back to the Washington Establishment.

It was time for Webb to go.
proudmarinemom (Diary) Monday, February 14th at 6:09PM EDT (link)Looking forward to getting to know you, Ms. Radtke.
(note: hyperlink to website is corrupted — please correct.)
Cheers.
Ms. Radtke- I have some questions for you
Scope (Diary) Monday, February 14th at 6:58PM EDT (link)Do you back a strong national security/foreign policy position, and denounce a non-interventionist policy that Ron Paul supports? Do you back traditional social issue policies? If you don’t answer these questions, I will take it that you are negative on both.
Mrs. Radtke, after reading your resume ...
junkbondtrader41 Monday, February 14th at 7:38PM EDT (link)I have a question, I hope you don’t think it rude:
Who the heck are you?? I’m just echoing the average general election voter.
You sound like a wonderful, brilliant lady, with a bright future within the party. But the Senate is not the minor leagues, and a campaign to get there rarely works out well as on-the-job training. You’re a favorite of Eric’s, who while he has an impeaccable feel for a candidate’s philosophical purity, he seems to think that novicehood and lack of a profile are assets in and of themselves.
Ken Buck, Joe Miller, Christine O’Donell. All Eric-endorsed candidates with that thin-public-resume, everyman appeal he seems to go for that were general election failures in a purple, red, and blue state, respectively, in a banner Republican year. (We were thankfully spared the possible spectacle of Marlin Stutzman losing a gimme in Indiana) Eric’s 2010 successes were either personable dynamos with great resumes like Marco Rubio and Mike Lee (And Lee couldn’t have lost if he tried). The Dems are likely to put up a former Governor or Congresmman in VA, we don’t need the reaction of Joe Lunchbox to be “Who?!” when he hears your name.
My humble thoughts: run for STATE Senate and check back a few years. I see no reason this seat shouldn’t be returned to the man who lost it to a ridiculous smear.
P.S. Allen for Senate.
Wow you really are a Macaca (nt)

Had Webb not resigned...
writeblock Monday, February 14th at 8:23PM EDT (link)it would have been even more of an opportunity for us since he has a record we can impugn–which will no longer be the case. So I don’t see your logic. It becomes even more important to run someone with a reputation for achievement. What are yours? Delaware is already an object lesson. We don’t need another.
I must ask why the support of Jamie Radtke here at Redstate
Scope (Diary) Monday, February 14th at 8:26PM EDT (link)After the recent debacle at CPAC this weekend, which prompted more than a few diaries as to the Paulbots, their disrespect shown at CPAC, their kookery in many if not most ideas as to policy, would anyone be promoting a person that alligns with Ron Paul? The only claim to fame that Radtke holds is because of the large attendance at the Tea Party convention last October in Richmond Virginia. The draw for those attending the convention was Ron Paul. He was the speaker that opened the convention.

A direct quote from Jamie Radtke as to Ron Paul-
“Rep. Ron Paul is principled, fearless, and completely dedicated to preserving the Constitution and the fiscal soundness of America,” says Jamie Radtke of the group, in a statement.
So, my question is, why are so many here rallying around a candidate that would be equal to the Paulbots that we, and so many others have rejected? especially with respect to CPAC this past weekend? I’m perplexed.

Yes I am aware of that Neil
Scope (Diary) Monday, February 14th at 9:26PM EDT (link)but what does that have to do with Paul the senior. Don’t put me in the middle of the front pagers opinions of Ron Paul, thank you very much.
Fair enough
Neil Stevens (Diary) Monday, February 14th at 9:55PM EDT (link)But to tell you the truth, I wouldn’t have promoted this diary without Erick’s approval.
So you’re not really getting between anything.
Just letting you know that sometimes there are practicalities that force tough choices.
If the alternative is Macaca? I’ll gamble with the Ronulan.

Neil- I'm wating to see
Scope (Diary) Monday, February 14th at 10:26PM EDT (link)who else enters the race. There will be others, and I will make my choices then. I am not pro or anti Allen at this time. His voting record does have some serious flaws, but, it isn’t terrible-

I’ll take Allen over a Paulie any day of the week.
Jamie wants to inform
celador2 Thursday, February 17th at 12:29AM EDT (link)She wants to inform users that she is running so she posted an essay and blog personally. i think it was a smart thing to do.
Where is George Allen? I thought no one was to the right of Allen, maybe Jamie is.

Give him a helluva fight
gawken (Diary) Tuesday, February 15th at 11:24AM EDT (link)Ms. Radtke..I’m glad you’re running… a vigorous primary is good for our party, and for the country. I do agree that many voters are tired with the same old faces..the retreads..and if you can make your case to the Va voters, and come across as someone new..you should win. Allen ran a terrible campaign..and not just the macaca mess…and a primary will be good prep for him for the general election, assuming he’s successful
About Jamie Radtke
keepourrepublic (Diary) Tuesday, February 15th at 2:23PM EDT (link)Interesting things would occur with the Virginia Tea Party Federation during Jamie Radtke’s time with it.
For example: It was agreed among the Tea Parties that made up the Virginia Tea Party Federation that there would be no Republicans campaigning at the Tea Party Convention, but when everyone got there they found a very heavy Republican presence up to an including a lot of Republicans as featured speakers.
Most wouldn’t think one way or the other about the presence of Republicans at the convention, but if it was agreed that they wouldn’t be there then why were they there?
When the Roanoke Tea Party made inquiries about such irregularities Jamie Radtke’s response as Chairman of the Federation was to kick the Roanoke Tea Party out.
Another example: It is against the bylaws of the Virginia Tea Party Federation for the Chair to be seeking public office while serving as a board member.
It is clear at this time that she hid her intentions from the other members of the Virginia Tea Party Federation and was preparing to run while still Chairman.
Again, most wouldn’t care one way or the other, except that it was in the rules she agreed to abide by.
That Jamie Radtke has a hard time abiding by rules she has consented to would be enough for me, but I understand that she has her own history with the Republican establishment before 2009.
It would be a mistake for Jamie Radtke to be the Republican nominee for Senate. To be clear, it would also be a mistake for George Allen to be the Republican nominee for Senate, but for different reasons.
Conservatives do not yet have a horse in the Viginia Senate race. Would that a suitable candidate would step forward.

Repair_Man_Jack (Diary) Tuesday, February 15th at 3:01PM EDT (link)The WaPo very much will. She will need intellignet responses tot his since the WaPo will use this to do to her what it did to Sen. Allen back in 2006.

Basically
keepourrepublic (Diary) Thursday, February 17th at 12:22AM EDT (link)Basically she was a party-first republican who got into the Tea Party to get some street cred as a launching pad to higher office.
George Allen is the party-first establishment pick.
Jamie Radtke is a party-first republican hoping to have the grassroots in her tent rather then out. If the grassroots question her though she won’t hesitate to kick them in the teeth.
Either way we have a party first republican.
If you think that’s the best we can do then you think that’s the best we can do. But we can do better.
I need a bigger resume
victrola Tuesday, February 15th at 3:37PM EDT (link)When all I see on a resume is “conservative activist” for such a high office as Senator, I understandably run in the other direction.
This cycle of conservative activists with ZERO experience before voters going straight for high offices like Governor, Senator, or even President, needs to stop. It doesn’t help our cause, especially when some of these figures actually squeak through a primary and get destroyed in the general election. Everyone likes to point to Utah with Mike Lee, but that was the exception, not the rule, and that’s the only state that you can get away with a strategy like this. For every Mike Lee, there’s a Christine O’Donnell, Ken Buck, and Joe Miller. I can think of 3-4 Senate seats we would have right now (and a Governor in Colorado) if conservatives had been more pragmatic in the 2010 cycle that now have liberal Democrats in office.
If you want to be a Senator or Governor, you need to show us you’re a proven vote getter and can handle the incredible pressure of a campaign. That means more than bumper sticker slogans, that means you’ve been tested in front of voters and have WON elected office.
Why no try your hand at city council, a state Representative or Senate seat, or treasurer? Even a Congressional seat would make more sense.
Building profile
ktan80 Saturday, February 19th at 10:16PM EDT (link)Running for a seat in government agencies isn’t an easy thing to do and if this is what you intend to do, it would be best to build a better profile. Voters has been burned so many times with their wrong choices and are more skeptical.
If you have a genuine desire to help and contribute to the betterment of the society and its constituents then that desire will show and the people would feel it.
