Why Are We Pretending Joe Biden Is Going to Run Again?

Why are so many of us bothering to pretend President Joe Biden actually plans to seek a second term in office? Yes, he claims he plans to run again in 2024. But do we really believe this? Buying this line of bovine excrement is like believing Rep. Eric Swalwell didn’t fart during that appearance on national television.

Let’s face it. Joseph Robinette Biden is not going to seek another term.

This is a positive sign. Nobody wants him to run again – including Democrats. According to The New York Times, folks on the left aren’t exactly enthused about this president. Indeed, the author writes:

Midway through the 2022 primary season, many Democratic lawmakers and party officials are venting their frustrations with President Biden’s struggle to advance the bulk of his agenda, doubting his ability to rescue the party from a predicted midterm trouncing and increasingly viewing him as an anchor that should be cut loose in 2024.

As the challenges facing the nation mount and fatigued base voters show low enthusiasm, Democrats in union meetings, the back rooms of Capitol Hill and party gatherings from coast to coast are quietly worrying about Mr. Biden’s leadership, his age and his capability to take the fight to former President Donald J. Trump a second time.

The Times interviewed almost 50 Democratic officials “from county leaders to members of Congress,” along with “disappointed voters” who supported Biden in 2020.

“To say our country was on the right track would flagrantly depart from reality,” Steve Simeonidis, a Democratic National Committee member based in Miami told The Times.

Mr. Biden, he said, “should announce his intent not to seek re-election in ’24 right after the midterms.”

The report explained that almost all who were interviewed indicated that “the president’s age — 79 now, 82 by the time the winner of the 2024 election is inaugurated — is a deep concern about his political viability.”

David Axelrod, chief strategist for former President Barack Obama, pointed out that “[t]he presidency is a monstrously taxing job,” and that “the stark reality is the president would be closer to 90 than 80 at the end of a second term,” which would create more of an issue for voters.

It seems likely people are still maintaining this charade because if they concede that Biden will not seek another term, he might become even more of a lame duck than he already is. He would lose what little influence he has over a Democratic Party that is increasingly being pulled leftward. His presidency would be eclipsed by those who might be vying for the top spot in two years.

But this raises another important question: If Biden isn’t running in two years, who is?

Unfortunately for the Democrats, the stable is rather bare at the moment, isn’t it? There is nobody on Team Blue who appears to have the charisma, youth, and appeal to place them in a position where they could actually challenge a Republican nominee. Indeed, even if they did, the party has made such a mess of things during its time in control of Congress and the White House that the GOP could run an aardvark in 2024 and win in a landslide.

Nevertheless, the Democrats remain in a bind, and the gravity of their situation seems to have finally set in. They were hoping the abortion issue would help them rebound – or at least minimize the damage they will take in November’s congressional elections. But no amount of leftist women donning costumes from “The Handmaid’s Tale” is going to make abortion a bigger issue than gas prices, inflation, and education.

Now, they are banking on the Jan. 6 hearings to target Trump and persuade people to give Democrats another chance. But “Orange Man Bad” campaigning can only go so far. There is no more milk in this particular cow. At this point, Democrats are going to have to do some soul-searching to figure out why they are losing. It is not difficult to figure out why they are in the position.

But if they handle this the way I think they will, they will blame everyone but themselves when they lose. They will claim racist Republicans suppressed black votes. They will say the activist media didn’t cover for them enough. They will say rampant “disinformation” deceived the public into becoming Nazis or something. Either way, Biden’s failure, along with that of his comrades in Congress, might just bring about a golden age for the GOP. Let’s just hope they don’t mess it up again.
