Pro-Hamas Activists Who Violently Attacked a Jewish Woman Are About to Face Justice

It appears that at least some of the pro-Hamas protesters are facing consequences for their actions. NYPD officers have arrested two women for an altercation that occurred while they were tearing down posters showing Israeli hostages that were kidnapped by Hamas during its October 7 assault on Israel.

The two women allegedly became violent when a Jewish woman confronted them for removing the posters.

Two women have been slapped with hate crime charges for allegedly attacking a Jewish person who confronted them on the Upper West Side for tearing down posters of Israelis kidnapped by Hamas, cops said Monday.

Mehwish Omer, 26, surrendered to police Monday morning and was charged with assault and criminal mischief — both as hate crimes — in connection to the attack on the 41-year-old woman at the corner of Riverside Drive and West 82nd Street just before 10 p.m. Nov. 9, authorities said.

Her alleged accomplice, Stephanie Gonzalez, 25, was cuffed a week earlier and also faces a hate crime assault rap, as well as an attempted robbery charge, cops said.

The duo allegedly assaulted the victim — ripping off her Star of David necklace and knocking a cellphone out of her hand — after she challenged them for ripping the “Missing Persons” posters from a light pole at the intersection, according to police.

The incident highlights increasing aggression towards Jewish people in America against the backdrop of the Israel-Hamas war. Some have raised concerns about the rise of antisemitic incidents occurring in places like New York City and elsewhere. This particular story underscores the broader issues related to the anti-Israel movement, whose adherents have been holding demonstrations all over the country. Some of these protests are marked by violence and threats.

In this case, law enforcement acted swiftly to bring these two women to justice. If the police start cracking down on this behavior, it will send a message to the pro-Hamas lobby that they will not continue getting away with attacking people and their property to advance their anti-Israel agenda. It would be nice to see this happening more often and in more cities.

With antisemitic sentiment rising in the U.S. as the war in Gaza continues to rage, we will likely see more of these incidents, unfortunately. Those who oppose Israel simply because it is a Jewish nation have no qualms about using violence against American Jews and those who support them. Indeed, Paul Kessler, who was advocating in favor of Israel, lost his life because a pro-Hamas protester believed it was acceptable to use violence to silence Kessler’s voice.

In the end, these people are nothing more than bullies, which means they are cowards. When people stand up to them and refuse to allow themselves to be bullied, these people will likely back down and wander off with their tails between their legs. If these attacks are going to stop, law enforcement will have to continue being diligent in punishing these people when they get violent. When officers are not around, those who might become victims need to make sure they are able to protect themselves. Otherwise, these bullies will only grow more violent.
