Of Course Progressives Are Mad at Mike Johnson for Taking His Daughter to a 'Purity Ball'

Progressives are always mad at something, at least when they are engaging in performative politics. Many of the things that get their panties in a bunch are absolutely absurd, and this story is no different.

An ABC News alleged journalist published a hit piece attacking House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) for – wait for it – taking his daughter to a purity ball in 2015.

The report was published on Wednesday and characterized the father-daughter dance as “controversial” and highlighted a German news segment documenting Johnson’s family’s attendance at the event.

The German news segment documented Johnson and his family preparing for and then attending a purity ball, a controversial formal dance event, popular among some conservative Christians, that gained notoriety in the early 2000s. At a typical event, fathers and their teenage daughters dress in formal ball attire for a night that involves dinner and dancing and culminates with the daughter signing a pledge to her father to abstain from dating and to remain sexually abstinent until marriage.

So, essentially, the notion that teenage girls would abstain from sexual activity is “controversial” and worthy of criticism. This was only the latest in a series of left-wing attacks on Johnson’s Christian faith.

But none of this should be surprising when you consider the source. The same far-leftist progressives who would take issue with a purity ball are the same ones working to use the government to sexualize children in government-run schools and elsewhere. These are the people who balk at the notion that sexually inappropriate materials should not be featured for children in school libraries and the classroom.

In fact, they have been pushing for legislation to ensure that books depicting graphic sexual acts and dialogue remain in government-run schools. The American Library Association was revealed to have helped draft some of this legislation.

A recent report revealed that the ALA helped draft legislation that would stop school libraries from removing sexually inappropriate material from its shelves.

The former president of the American Library Association (ALA) said the organization helped “develop” legislation intended to combat attempts to remove sexually explicit books from school libraries, according to documents obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation.

The Right To Read Act, reintroduced by Democratic Rhode Island Sen. Jack Reed and Democratic Arizona Rep. Raúl Grijalva in April, ensures students can access “culturally diverse and inclusive materials,” including sexually explicit books, as well as granting liability protections for librarians who curate these materials. The bill is explicitly intended to rebuff efforts by parents and Republican lawmakers to remove sexually explicit content from school libraries, according to a press release from the lawmakers.

The legislation is ostensibly intended to promote literacy in the face of widespread “book bans” being implemented by red states and local school districts.

Even further, Democrats have been pushing for the federal government to use its leverage to force school districts to provide this material for children.

It appears Democrats are gearing up for a push to assert federal control over schools and regulate what books they choose to have in their libraries.

The House Committee on Education and the Workforce held a subcommittee hearing on Thursday to discuss explicit content of books in children’s school libraries.

In what many on the left claim is an epidemic of “book banning,” it is actually an epidemic of pornographic books being distributed to American school libraries, according to witnesses at a House hearing.

Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education Subcommittee Chairman Rep. Aaron Bean, R-Fla., said the hearing was necessary.

“Some of my Democrat colleagues will inevitably accuse Republicans of engaging in a widespread campaign to ‘ban’ books because of racial animus or prejudice against LGBT students,” Bean said in his opening statement.

“However, none of the evidence suggests books are being removed for any reason other than inappropriate, explicit content.”

Progressives are so hellbent on sexualizing children that they even enlisted celebrities to advocate for keeping sexually inappropriate material in schools where small children can access them.

The reason why they take issue with Johnson is because people like him are anathema to far-leftist orthodoxy, which includes exposing children to pornographic material that can’t even be read aloud during school board meetings. They characterize sensible people who see why this is problematic as “book banners” in an effort to link them to authoritarians like Adolph Hiter and others.

Of course, the “book banning” trope is a mere red herring intended to deflect from the real issue. This is because they know most parents, regardless of which party they vote for, would not be on board with presenting this content to small children in the classroom or elsewhere. The reality is that they want children to be sexualized. It is why they have pushed these books in schools. It is why they want children to attend drag shows. It is also why they feature LGBTQ ideology in their institutions for kids.

Fortunately, there are people fighting back against the left’s agenda, which is why the media has to resort to underhanded propaganda such as this.
