I get it. We live in an eternal political cycle, so it only comes naturally that we should look ahead to who could or will run in 2016. Whether it is Chris Christie, Scott Walker, Bobby Jindal, [mc_name name=’Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’C001098′ ], Jeb Bush, Mitt Romney, [mc_name name=’Sen. John McCain (R-AZ)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’M000303′ ], Megan McCain, Erick Erickson, or even Rick Santorum (which is, frankly, ridiculous), now does not seem, to me, to be the time to focus on this.

We had a jobs report come out today. We have economic news that is still not great. We have issues with Obamacare (primarily that it is a thing that we allowed to happen) and the current tax code.

Noted RedState Supervillian [mc_name name=’Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’M000355′ ] will more than likely be the next Majority Leader in the Senate, while [mc_name name=’Rep. John Boehner (R-OH)’ chamber=’house’ mcid=’B000589′ ] will (as of now) remain as Speaker of the House. Under their reign, the Congress can do a hell of a lot to impede the President’s Agenda. They can cut off funding for anything he tries to implement, like Obamacare or a trip to play golf (someone check on the legality of that for me, please). They can push out a ton of bills and put them on the President’s desk.

Make Obama own everything that does or does not get done. A repudiation of government overreach for two straight midterm cycles has cost him support through Congress and the American people. He still thinks he has a mandate, and will likely issue mandates of his own. A Republican Congress can do a lot to stop this and force the President to stay on track.

These aren’t new talking points. I’m not breaking new ground here. But, rather, what I believe is key is remembering that we have control of Congress. We don’t shift our attention to 2016 yet. Let that come later.
