The Reformation, Reconciliation, and Revenge of Al Gore

If you ever had a doubt as to whether or not there was a just and loving God, consider, of all places, this BuzzFeed article.

Supporters of Al Gore have begun a round of conversations among themselves and with the former vice president about his running for president in 2016, the latest sign that top Democrats have serious doubts that Hillary Clinton is a sure thing.

Gore, 67, won the popular vote in the 2000 election and has been mentioned as a possible candidate in every contested Democratic primary since then. He instead spent much of the 2000s focused on environmental campaigning and business ventures. He has largely slipped out of public view in more recent years.

But in recent days, “they’re getting the old gang together,” a senior Democrat told BuzzFeed News.

“They’re figuring out if there’s a path financially and politically,” the Democrat said. “It feels more real than it has in the past months.”

Hillary Clinton’s prospects are becoming so dim that the Democrats are considering bringing her husband’s vice president, an  noted inventor of the Internet, Al Gore, to the main stage to put up a primary battle against her. The story linked above does not that this isn’t a sure thing – in fact, I doubt he would run again – but the consideration is the important thing to note here.

What does Al Gore bring to the table? Well, he won the popular in the 2000 election while losing the electoral college and a SCOTUS hearing. This was back when the contention between the parties wasn’t nearly as hostile as it is now – Democratic Obama policies* are wreaking havoc on the party’s popularity, and Obama would rather dig in than toss his party a bone every now and then. This is, after all, his legacy he’s building. Not the Democratic party’s.

But, Al Gore could maybe do it, by God! He won the popular vote in a national election once… fifteen years ago… and still lost the presidency… So, why Gore?

Well, if you look at the Public Policy Polling results released on August 10, even the incredibly left-leaning PPP only has Hillary over seven candidates by very low margins. Four Republicans – Rubio, Walker, Carson, and Huckabee – beat her. This is a vast change from the double digits she was pulling over many candidates as recently as June.

Ignore for a moment the potential criminal charges Hillary could be facing – assuming a Clinton could ever truly be sent to prison – and think about this for a moment: The Clinton Machine is looking so weak right now that Al Gore and Joe Biden are being looked at somewhat favorably as replacements.

Of course, with Martin O’Malley and Bernie Sanders being attacked from the left by groups like Black Lives Matter, the Democrats are bit-by-bit seeing their hopes fade as the 2016 prepares to begin in full. Consider as well that, at a time when diversity is something the Left is increasingly calling for, the Democrats can only come up with are old and white.

The GOP could potentially see any combination of Cruz, Rubio, and Jindal on a ticket, whereas a Clinton/O’Malley ticket would be so white, if you pulled the lever on election day, a ginger baby would pop out.
