BREAKING: Trump Chooses Gen. John Kelly for Homeland Security

Multiple news outlets are reporting that Donald Trump has selected retired four-star General John Kelly to head up the Department of Homeland Security in his incoming administration. CBS reported this morning that the pick was official, and the Associated Press sent out a breaking update around 12:15 confirming that Kelly was the pick. Via the CBS story:

Kelly is the third general tapped by the president-elect, joining Gen. James Mattis, Mr. Trump’s pick to become the next secretary of Defense, and Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, Mr. Trump’s incoming national security advisor.

Like Mattis, Kelly is a Marine with a reputation for bluntness.

Kelly was the commander of U.S. Southern Command until earlier this year. In that posting, he oversaw American military operations in South America and Central America.

Trump appears to be putting military experience first and foremost in his search for candidates to fill military and foreign policy based jobs.
