K.O.! Union Throws in Towel on Arizona Boycott

Arizona Governor Jan Brewer has knocked the once-mighty United Food & Commercial Workers union out of union boycott of Arizona over SB1070.

It might be the fact that Brewer doesn’t cower to union thug-like tactics, or it could be the fact that she punches back twice as hard. Either way, the UFCW is throwing in the towel on its Boycott Arizona campaign.

The grocery workers union said Thursday it is calling off its boycott and will work toward more positive outcomes on the contentious immigration front.

“I hope Ms. Brewer joins the call to ‘tone it down’ and help create solutions for both border security and immigration reform,” said UFCW Local 99 President Jim McLaughlin. ”It is now time for calm, reasoned discussion that can move forward to first secure our borders, while designing a workable, humane plan to finally reform our nation’s immigration laws,” said McLaughlin.

The fact that the Governor’s campaign had planned a protest in front of the UFCW’s Phoenix office may have convinced the union bosses that Brewer had taken President Obama’s “punch back twice as hard” lesson to heart.

The protests, including Shame on UFCW/SEIU signs will be held Thursday, Friday, Monday and Wednesday at the UFCW Local 99’s office off Central Avenue in Phoenix.

Now that the UFCW has been knocked out of the Boycott Arizona campaign, the Governor’s spokesman Doug Cole says attention will be turned toward the SEIU.

[We think that's already begun.]

Congratulations, Arizona!  You’ve got a governor that isn’t afraid to take on the biggest special interest group in the nation—union bosses.

Perhaps some other weak-kneed governors/politicos can watch and learn.

Cross-posted.

For TOO long the GOP has been afraid to engage with and take the fight to the Left. We play by the Marquis of Queensbury rules while they are street fighters. It’s about time some members of the GOP grow a spine and fight back.

Why is it that so many Republican politicians seem to want approval from their Democrat adversaries? Didn’t any of them ever play sports, or read Sun Tzu? Politics is a form of warfare. The Democrats understand this, but too few Republicans do. In warfare, the object is achieving victory, not achieving mutual gratification. When your adversary knows that you don’t have the stomach for hard fighting or, having won the war, that you don’t have the stomach for ruthless domination, then your adversary neither fears nor respects you, and maintaining a lasting peace is impossible.
The Democrats won’t learn their lesson until the Republicans not only pound them into submission, but maim them permanently.

now calls for calm, reasoned discussion after Gov. Brewer didn’t give in to their thuggery. We need more Gov. Brewer types in this country to keep these criminals from stomping all over our rights. Huzzah, Mrs. Brewer!

          Solid business types.
          Strong community leaders.
People who are used to, for lack of better terms, playing by the rules, and working together for the common good.
          Boy scouts.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the “mama grizzlies” are so successful… they’re not playing by the Boy Scout rules – never have.

I believe that Edmund Burke said this regarding the French Revolution. We need to remove the Rinos and revamp the system of public education (public leftist indoctrination). The Rinos are a product of their public education. The greatest battle for control of the population is being carried out in the public education system. There is only one view…the view from the left.

While Barak Obama wants to transform America into a European Socialist state, patriots want to safeguard the constitution and the capitalist system that created the greatest benevolent nation in the world.

Since the entire effort was a failure the union was forced to make a face saving move.

Even the democrat party’s newest diva, Lady Ga Ga, brought her tour to Phoenix a few weeks ago. She/He told the boycott supporting MORONS to STFU and just sing.

Just about every Democrat in Arizona – including Harry Mitchell, Ann Kirkpatrick and Gabby Giffords – had taken in tens of thousands from the SEIU and UFCW. The GOP was hammering them for aligning themselves with people trying to hurt Arizona’s economy and put people out of work.

This is just an attempt to stop the bleeding. But its too little, too late

“Workable” means you can’t possibly eject from the country all those who have no right to be here, and besides, we need the workers.

“Humane” means any child born within the borders of the USA must have all of his family admitted to the country.

Of course, both of these definitions are open to wild expansion at the whim of loudmouth liberals.

Instead of being rogue with obama and the head Union Thugs who don’t give a dam about the Constitution of The United States of America and our Creator.. We seen it in the Senate yesterday with a law that has worked for 75 years to support all workers but the obama-lyin-itis had to try and shove their marxist ways on all workers. Union Members it is time to stand up to those Union Leader THUGS that want to walk in the same pants as obama and destroy Americans Liberty and Freedom.

This may be just a feint to the left. then they will come back with the right hook.

In a fight like this, you finish it.
    Win.
Do not call it a draw. That would be admitting your opponent was your equal and at least half right.

You just gotta’ love J. Brewer.

Fighting these thugs back at their own game is long overdue.
HERE is something worth checking out: www.unionfacts.com It shows how many union fatcats enrich themselves at the workers’ expense.
I made the mistake of joining the union where I work (I live in a right-to-work state) and got sickened quickly at how the higher ups at the regional and national level were telling our local to cut back on their expenses at the same time they live in the lap of luxury with their six-digit salaries and expense accounts, let alone the big bucks they spend on campaigning for libs!! That, and the monthly magazine they send us chock full of DNC propaganda!

The power is in the Major League Baseball management, players union and their opposition to enforcing SB 1070 regarding immigration laws. They have no problem with undermining the sovereignty of the very nation that creates the very same opportunities the so readily enjoy. The food workers union is small potatoes in comparison. If you have the courage of your convictions you will not support Major League Baseball in any way what so ever. The choice is yours.

How she’s willing to take on people who are against raising taxes in a downward economy and absolutely berating them because anyone with a lick of sense knows – if you don’t raise taxes, people will die.

  • mikerazar

Now how about a national GOP leader having the guts to thank her publicly for getting that thuggish union leader to surrender.

Can’t anyone on the right ever deliver a knockout punch to the left?

Maybe if some of the rage directed against our own weak RINOs was directed at the far more dangerous enemies on the left….

Let me also agree with lightfoot on MLB. Or do we love sports more than we love liberty?

Jan will be the President because Chris Christie insists on not running for President and she can appoint him to “Shrink the Government Czar” and have Sarah Palin in there as the official “cleaning the real swamp” czar with the official approval of a Senate hearing. Going BY THE CONSTITUTIONAL BOOK of legally cleaning THE house.

There are several who need to be indicted and who need to pay back all the money they stole and lose all their monies and assets they got while breaking and twisting the law (like the Drug Enforcement Agency collects from the drug dealers)… It is the only way to clean house. No one is above the law. Not even Barak Obama. I say don’t wait until 2012. Impeach him and Joe Biden now for mishandling of funds and receiving financial loan favors based on their positions.

Jan Brewer has done a reasonable job of reading her lines in two confrontations: SB1070, which she didn’t support during the legislative process and no one knew if she would sign it until she actually did; this union issue.

All well and good. On the other side of the coin, Jan Brewer is about as far from being a conservative as is Mike Castle or Gov. Crist. The budget in Arizona is a first rate mess. We have the second worst problems in that area in the US, only CA is worse. Brewer initially tried to cover the “shortfall” in the budget last year with tax increases. She was stopped at the last minute by a gutsy group of Republican freshman legislators. She finally agreed to “solve” the problem with a temporary three year tax increase and the use of one-time federal funds with some minor budget reductions.

She is so bad that before the passage of SB1070 she was facing a primary with three competitors and was polling in the 20s. SB1070 saved her hide and she’ll win in November thanks to the Democrats having nobody to run against her with much credibility and it being a banner Republican year. If you like her, you can have her.

With respect to impeachment, that’s the worst idea on the floor and it won’t happen. The votes, thankfully, aren’t there. Impeaching BO will have the same result as the impeachment of BC. Republicans gave up on beating Democrats on the issues and made it personal. The country rallied around BC. The same thing would happen with Obama. Please, let’s beat Democrats on issues and destroy their credibility with voters not create another martyr.

Conservatives have far too much to do than sit around in committees trying to impeach Obama. We need to move on as if Obama were a thing of the past, because he will be in two years.

We are putting in a whole new batch of Constitutional Conservatives. Young dynamic exciting leaders. Obama will look like the black Jimmy Carter once they take office.

Republicans ought to just start ignoring him … completely. Stop him at every turn, but act as if he is already gone. Treat his as the worthless fluff that he is.

    • dambama

I meant Treat HIM as the worthless fluff that he is.
