CWA Union Boss Says Tea Party Advocates “Slavery”

When's the last time you looked in a mirror, Larry Cohen?

Just when you thought the left-wing race baiting over the last year couldn’t get any worse, the Communications Workers of America chief honcho Larry Cohen has sunk to new depths attacking those who do not agree with his socialist agenda.

On Wednesday, the NAACP, in continuing its unfounded “racist” accusations of the Tea Party movement, had a conference call on which the CWA President participated.

According to Big Journalism writer Niger Innis, after the NAACP’s Ben Jealous continued his normal the-tea-parties-are-racist-harangue, his little buddy at the CWA threw the rhetorical grenade out on the call:

The most illuminating part of the call came when “progressive” ally, Larry Cohen of the CWA (Communication Workers of America) revealed the real agenda of the attacks on the Tea Party by the Left, “We disagree with the agenda of the tea party Movement… They advocate slavery,” and this classic gem, “We don’t need 19th century capitalism.”

The Washington Post’s Dana Milibank also wrote about the conference call:

On the conference call, Communications Workers of America President Larry Cohen tried to make the case that the Tea Party’s economic policies, too, are evidence of “hate” in the ranks. “It’s an economic agenda that is hateful against workers,” he reasoned. “Most of the proponents that we’re talking about in this report also renounce things like minimum wage and collective bargaining rights…. Whether it’s glorifying slavery or glorifying a managerial system where workers have no voice, the Tea Party is a throwback.”

Slavery?  Really, Larry?

For a union that advocates effectively removing workers’ right to vote on unionization, as well as locking employees into contracts without their ability to vote or retaining their right to strike (see Employee Anti-Choice Act); for a union that enjoys laws that force workers to pay dues or be fired; for a union that has threatened and fined members for exercising their freedom to continue to working during strikes; for a union that has had one of its own local officers allegedly encourage beating members —saying that the tea parties want slavery is a little hypocritical isn’t it, Larry?

Do you really want to open this can of worms, Larry?

Because, if you do, Larry, here’s some examples for you:

These are just a few published Court, NLRB, and media stories of what your union has done to people, Larry (names withheld out of courtesy for the victims):

  • CWA fined a woman $1539.50 for working during a strike
  • CWA fined a woman $1554.47 for working during a strike.
  • CWA fined a woman $1121 for working during a strike
  • CWA fined a woman $911 for working during a strike
  • CWA fined a woman $790 for working during a strike
  • CWA fined a woman $1379 for working during a strike
  • CWA fined a woman $838.09 for working during a strike
  • CWA fined a woman $1161.50 for working during a strike
  • CWA fined a woman $1248.38 for working during a strike
  • CWA fined a woman $1272.50 for working during a strike
  • CWA fined a man $1589 for working during a strike
  • CWA fined a woman $1308.50 for working during a strike
  • CWA fined a man $119.50 for working during a strike
  • CWA fined a man $749 for working during a strike
  • CWA fined a woman $1308.50 for working during a strike
  • CWA fined a woman $1200 for working during a strike
  • CWA fined a man $2000 for “dual unionism” (supporting another union to replace the CWA)
  • CWA fined a woman $2000 for “dual unionism” (supporting another union to replace the CWA)
  • CWA fined two members for working mandatory overtime, prior to a strike.

And you surely don’t want to talk about the CWA kangaroo courts, do you, Larry?

A clerical worker who crossed the picket line during last year’s strike at the Summit County, Ohio, Children Serv. Bd. (CSB) has been found guilty in a union trial and fined $27,496.65. Almondine Poole is one of 38 crossers who stood trial over the past two Saturdays.  All the defendants have been found guilty and fines range from $3,000 to $39,000, based on salary and overtime earned during the five-month strike.

Larry, if you really believe the the tea parties are advocating slavery (as you allege), what is it that you’re advocating?

I was going to post exactly that same quote. There are a lot of Atlas Shrugged parallels too.

    Union Bosses:

It’s called projection!Don’t project your stinking hidden racist thoughts onto me.

I’m having that tech issue again, which seems to be associated with your posts and no one else’s…all the links are missing from the right side of the page. Is this just me or is anyone else having that problem?

Not really that big a deal to me, I can navigate around it, just wondering if it’s something that needs looking into.

      I’m not sure why though.

The same problem appeared on your “UAW:The Curse that Just Keeps on Giving” diary and still persists. I commented on it there, but nobody responded, so I thought it must just be me……

Like I said, it’s not really a problem to navigate around, it’s just that anomalies make me curious, which in this case is pointless, because the
entire computer science departments of MIT, Cal Tech, and a few more couldn’t make me comprehend this stuff in 20 lifetimes of trying to learn it. ;) AFAICT, computers run on some sort of enchanted blue smoke……..

Computer chips run on magic smoke, y’know. After all, if you overheat the computer and let the magic smoke out, they don’t work any more.

I heard it from a programmer friend about 10-12 years ago.

          • Finrod

I believe it was in the hardcopy book I bought of the Jargon File back in 1994. It’s quite likely to be older than that, though, the Z80 chip referred to in the story was from the early 1980s, but it could be even older than that. It could easily date back to the 1960s or 1970s.

for software glitches originating with a hardware problem caused by a moth (iirc) and just sticking in the trade vocabulary until it made it into the mainstream.

          • Finrod

Again, check out the jargon file– they have a picture of the actual bug from that story, it was Adm. Grace Hopper that found said bug and put it into a logbook in 1947. From the way the entry is written, it indicates that the term was already in use at the time, and the entry below dates it back to at least 1896 and Thomas Edison!

It’s the epitome of what unionization is all about now… it’s not about bringing a living wage or decent working conditions – it’s turned into an entitlement setup for union bosses at the expense of every one else. Unions, in their current form have gone from something useful to a feudal system based on intimidation.

I’ve hated unions since they denied my Mother and I a death benefit from my Father’s passing back in1980. (he was a truck driver-they told her she’d never be paid etc and she was to afraid to ever take them to court-I was to young to do anything about it except be disgusted with the whole deal)

CWA ‘boss’ Larry Cohen’ is simply trying to perpetuate the money pump running from the unions to the democrat politicians and back again, all the while gathering more and more taxpayer and union member dollars into the flow. In other words, don’t rock the vote. I’m a CWA member, and I’ve already been accused of racism for exposing the truth concerning Obama and the unions. BHO has brought Chicago thug politics to Washington in a BIG, national way. ACORN, Jeremiah Wright, Bill Ayers, hiding all of his previous records and associations, the signs were ALL THERE for the American public to see, yet Oprah and her Hollywood pals bought the election for Obama by running against G.W. Bush, who wasn’t a candidate. Take a look at the exit polls of Obama suporters. The majority of them look like an installment of Jay Leno’s ‘jaywalking’ skit. They did’nt have a clue about politics, the economy, the candidate’s positions, or even the issues. They voted the way they were TOLD to vote. There should be a test you must pass before you’re allowed to vote. That would prevent this type of perversion of the system. Unions and Wall Street are the ONLY ones who stand to benefit if the Dems win. ALL of the signs were there, but the majority of the voters were too disconected from reality to act on them. Many people who voted for Obama because it was the ‘trendy’ thing to do are now regretting it, and they will regret it for the rest of their lives, if they care about this country.
