They have declared war on you, the American taxpayer. They have found the legal means to reach into your pocket to feather their nests, while costing you and your children and your children’s children trillions. They’ve been doing it for 50 years.
Yesterday, we posted the simplicity of how to begin dismantling the stranglehold government unions have on America.
Step One: Understand the threat…
I want to tell you, Socialists, that I have studied your philosophy; read your works upon economics, and not the meanest of them; studied your standard works, both in English and German—have not only read, but studied them. I have heard your orators and watched the work of your movement the world over. I have kept close watch upon your doctrines for thirty years; have been closely associated with many of you, and know what you think and what you propose. I know, too, what you have up your sleeve. And I want to say that I am entirely at variance with your philosophy. I declare to you, I am not only at variance with your doctrines, but with your philosophy. Economically, you are unsound; socially, you are wrong; industrially, you are an impossibility.
Samuel Gompers, Founder of the American Federation of Labor, 1903
Step Two: Get Out the Vote.
[You didn't think unions are spending hundreds of millions of dollars to help you reduce the size of government, did you?]

Current impacts v. miopic view of history
Deskpilot (Diary) Tuesday, October 26th at 9:06AM EDT (link)Stave Malanga and Dan Morris are advertized to discuss unions, but whereas Mr. Malanga looks at the current impact of what unions are doing to our society and economy, a very young and sworn leftist, Morris tries to defend the indefensivble and gets smacked down by Stossel.

Alyssa Kaeding (Diary) Tuesday, October 26th at 10:33AM EDT (link)Have you seen the video about the New Jersey Teacher’s Union? Unbelievable. Check it out:

I give O'keefe no credibility....
jackhammer Tuesday, October 26th at 12:06PM EDT (link)He lost any shred of credibility with me a long time ago. He baits people, he selctively edits, and he is just an immature little brat.
I don’t like Makaka moments when they happen to us, and I am not petty enough to harp on them when it happens to the other side.
People let down their guard and say stupid crap when they think they are around like minded people. I saw the video,a nd there is nothing shocking in it whatsoever. Does Christy piss off the Teachers Union….yes….that is the point….should we be surprised if they say they want to kick him in the toolbox?
This guy is a gnat….his sexual assault attempt on that CNN anchor is disturbing on so many levels….and I think anyone on the right would be well served to steer clear of him, no mattr how much his “undercover” work might strengthen your world view. He is a dog, and you will end up with flees.
Do you feel better now?
PowerToThePeople (Diary) Tuesday, October 26th at 12:23PM EDT (link)Talk about stretching the truth to make a point. The boat scandal that you refer to never happened, so there was no attempted sexual assault as you stated. Was it a good idea, no. But it was blown out proportion by the left and the media.
He was the key factor in bringing ACORN down, has put out some good work, and deserves a better break than what you just gave him.
I mean I could of course retract that last statement if you have been out on the front line exposing the corruption of the left like he has. Should I take back the statement or leave it as it is due to your couch side quarterbacking?
blown out of proportion by the left?
jackhammer Tuesday, October 26th at 12:46PM EDT (link)http://www.redstate.com/absentee/2010/09/29/bizarre-caper-targets-cnn-reporter/
Yes, Redstate is a left media outlet.
His results in regards to Acorn are somethign that is good for our side, but it was gotten in a tacky way. It is all Makaka like. Going in there dressed as a stereotypical pimp a la Michael Moore and one of his stupid films. So, result good for our side…way of achieving, questionable.
Everything he has done since then…moronic. Worthy of 1980′s TV shows. Dress up as telephone repair man, and enter a public officials office….the whole idea of sex toys on a boat….
He is a loser, and I wouldn’t get near him or his capers, even if they help us. He and his ilk are to our side, what Acorn is to the other…
The other side is generally wrong. That shows itself in clear argument, and does not need editing and goading
Come on be reasonable
PowerToThePeople (Diary) Tuesday, October 26th at 4:39PM EDT (link)RedState is not a news source in the strictest of terms. It is much more a debate and educational site based on news, not a news generator.
The entire boat case was blown out of proportion like it or not. It was an idea on a computer that should have never been there, but the intent was not to sexually assault her, but to make her look like a fool. It was stupid, there is no disagreement there, but that is all it was. And since it was not O’Keefe who came up with the idea, he bears even less responsibility in the matter. He should have killed it, he should have fired the guy who came up with it, and his failure to reject it will be his thorn, but lets not make it something it was not. He is a young guy new to the game, he will make more mistakes. But his head and heart are in the right place and over time, I expect he will become a force.
As far as the editing, all programs edit and edit towards entertainment and to make their case seem more plausible. To get an hour of show, you may have 20 hours of filming. You have to edit and everyone will edit out parts that do not matter or do not show their point of view. I was interviewed for a short segment on a news channel for a shot dog who I took in and got care for. Much of what I said never made it to the show. They took out the part where I stated what should happen to the person who shot this puppy up. Even with the edit, the story was truthful but incomplete. They only had 3 minutes for the part. And their focus was on raising awareness about animal cruelty and to find a loving home for the dog, not my opinion on how the jerk should be treated. They accomplished that, even with the edit.
If you have evidence he lied in his story, that is a completely different bird. But editing is not something new nor is it something that should kill his relevance. His entire premise was to show the viewing audience how they acted and he accomplished that goal. When you want to make a group look bad, you find the loons.
But having your filmers goad people on is....
jackhammer Wednesday, October 27th at 4:53AM EDT (link)It is OK for Jon Stewart to do on a comedy segment…but having people in there goading the teachers on is crap.
He is a punk, he is not new to the game anymore. he lacks good judgement, and he probably does more harm than good. I ignore what he does, and I would advise anyone else to do the same.
And there has been no Chris Christie respnse, just a response form his staffer, becasue I think Christie is man enough not to get his panties in a bunch over some teachers lettign off steam at one of their functions.
Coem out with me and my buddies watching a game, and we probably talk about how some fo us want to see our boss dead, and whether they will ever invent an apparatus to actually hurl someones wife to the moon….does that have credibility…no…is that worth being made public? No.
If this were a podium discussion and an official or at least widely expressed union position, then fair game…but some lobby talk at a conference….
You are entitled to your
PowerToThePeople (Diary) Wednesday, October 27th at 12:12PM EDT (link)opinion, as are all people, but we will have to agree to disagree.
And by the way, if your boss was sitting behind you when you talked about “killing” him, he would fire you. Whether you like it or not, the words you use show character no matter where they are spoken. It is cowardice to talk about others because you think it will stay hidden, and it is wrong to do the same just because you are bored, blowing off steam, or think no one will find out.
If you think the teacher were justified in what they said or should be excused just because they were “goaded” or thought he was on their side, we must live in two very different worlds and have two very different set of morals. The teachers union is absolute trash and their behavior displayed that fact for the world to see. And it matters little if they were fooled, goaded, or coerced.
Christie has spoken publicly about it --check out Breitbart
JSobieski (Diary) Wednesday, October 27th at 12:23PM EDT (link)I agree that O’Keefe is a loose cannon, but there is no way that he goaded those people into saying those things. Moreover, they are public employees and most of the conversation was about the public, i.e. the tax payer.
I never went to a corporate event and bragged about screwing over the shareholders because it was never something that would even occur to me. Its one thing to bad mouth a specific supervisor in a personal mannerism (although wishing them dead is borderline), its another thing to display pleasure at screwing over the organization paying for the even.
Those weren’t statements made in frustration. They were statements made in ephoria–the people were having a blast.

O'Keefe helped shed public light on ACORN...
LaborUnionReport (Diary) Tuesday, October 26th at 1:52PM EDT (link)But, like a hydra, ACORN never left, it just broke into smaller parts, renamed itself into a dozen or more different organizations and is still doing mischief.

Very true
PowerToThePeople (Diary) Wednesday, October 27th at 12:22PM EDT (link)but that is less O’Keefe’s fault and more the publics fault. When the story broke, we should have been banging on the doors of our reps till it was shut down completely. We had the right to do so since it is our money that funded that criminal group.
Has potential....

America: A Slowly Boiled Frog
Ausonius (Diary) Tuesday, October 26th at 5:31PM EDT (link)Government unions and BIG BRObama have made the classic mistake of wanting too much too soon. They turned up their socialist fire far too high with gleeful greed, and tried to boil too much money and too many concessions out of the American people.
The famous slowly boiled frog experiment has limits: depending on the rate of increase in the heat, a frog will in fact become anxious and jump out of the water.
I believe most Americans
A. have no idea of the extent of government unionization
B. have no idea of the costs
C. have no idea of the legal turmoil involved in reducing the bureaucracy
D. will be horrified if anyone could educate them clearly about A, B, and C.
Fortunately for us, the impatience of the Leftists seems to have prompted America to jump out of socialism’s cooking pot. They seem ready to notice the heat.
Ausonius: 310-395 A.D. Teacher, Poet, Consul, General, Farmer.
Personal Tutor to the future St. Paulinus of Nola and to young Gratian, heir to the throne during the turbulent final years of the Western Roman Empire. When his former student Gratian was assassinated, Ausonius threw up his hands and retired to his farm in Gaul. Rome was captured by barbarians 14 years after his death.
