Pay to Not Play: More ObamaCare Waivers Pile Up

Well, another few months have gone by and another chunk of unions have gotten their waivers from the job-killing health care law known as ObamaCare—the law AFL-CIO boss Richard Trumka said unions shoved down America’s throats.

In January, a full forty percent of the ObamaCare waivers went to unions. Now, according to Mark Hemingway in the Weekly Standard, over half of the ObamaCare waivers have gone to union members.

The plans newly approved for waivers cover more than 160,000 people, bringing to nearly 3.1 million the number of individuals in plans exempted from the health law’s requirements.  Of the participants receiving waivers, more than half – over 1.55 million – are in union plans, raising questions of why such a disproportionate share of union members are receiving waivers from the law’s requirements.

CrossroadsGPS has put together this hard-hitting video illustrating the outright hypocrisy of those who shoved ObamaCare down America’s throats.

So far, according to the Center for Consumer Information & Insurance Oversight, the Obama administration has handed out waivers to:

And, as an added bonus, 20% of this quarter’s players came from Nancy Pelosi’s district.

Of the 204 new Obamacare waivers President Barack Obama’s administration approved in April, 38 are for fancy eateries, hip nightclubs and decadent hotels in House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s Northern California district.

It does make one wonder how many of those fancy eateries, hip nightclubs and decadent hotels waived are contributors to Madame Pelosi. [We certainly know unions are.]

It's the "recent comments" list that's missing.

I noticed it yesterday and was wondering why they took it down.

WE ARE THE 53% (who actually pay taxes).

It boggles my mind...

…why conservative writers, writing in blatantly conservative publications (like Mark Hemingway in the Weekly Standard) bother to play the MSM’s stupid game – i.e. “…raising questions of why such a disproportionate share of union members are receiving waivers from the law’s requirements.”

Why does Hemingway (and endless other conservative writers) play the fool when writing about such blatant corruption? I’d have a lot more respect for conservative pundits if they grew some balls and tried writing the truth instead of couching it like some kind of J-School flunky.

It doesn’t “raise questions” – it’s a blatant display of patronage and corruption, with no attempt made to disguise it. Why not just write that instead of pretending this is somehow legitimate?

...And the other half?

gregorysstewart (Diary) Thursday, May 19th at 4:31PM EDT (link)

Hardly seems as if there was enough waivers left for Nancy Pelosi to pass out to her favorite restaurants in San Francisco.

Where's the MSM outrage?

swami7774 (Diary) Thursday, May 19th at 4:44PM EDT (link)

Where are the fire-and-brimstone denunciations of such obvious hackery?
Rhetorical questions, of course.
The outrage over this is in the same place as the outrage over The One’s banning of the Boston Herald from his Boston trip yesterday(and other recent media bannings): nonexistent.

Today, there is a name for the political doctrine that rejoices in scarcity of everything except government. The name is environmentalism.

How About This....

paramedichess Thursday, May 19th at 8:08PM EDT (link)

Let’s create some regulatory nightmare that will significantly negatively impact businesses across the country. Then, let’s put in place a “waiver” system, whereby companies that give us money, or are in some other way supportive of our candidates or policies can be excused from these onerous regulations, giving them a huge leg up on their competition. This will give us a fabulous way to reward our friends, punish our enemies, and manipulate at will the marketplace. What? … Oh, apparently the Obama administration already did this. It’s called Obamacare.

LUR, now AARP getting oversight waiver for Medigap plans

lineholder (Diary) Friday, May 20th at 11:07AM EDT (link)

All of the mechanisms that supposedly were intended to reduce costs in ObamaCare are unraveling at the seams. The intent of legislation was to remove programs such as Medigap from the picture entirely, because it bent the cost curve upward (according to Dems). Now DHHS is exempting AARP from rate review increases.
