MEMBER DIARY

Did Union Bosses Lie To Their Members About Obama’s Gun Control Ambitions?

In 2008, most union bosses had to work hard to convince their union members to vote for Barack Hussein Obama. Despite the fact that the Machinists’ union boss Tom Buffenbarger considered Obama a “thespian” and “Janus, the two-faced Roman god of ancient times,” others union bosses like the SEIU’s Andy Stern were wholly on board the Obama bandwagon early on. Another of Obama’s major supporters was the AFL-CIO’s Richard Trumka, who told union members that they were racists if they did not vote for Obama:

There’s not a single, good reason for any worker—especially any union member—to vote against Barack Obama…And, there’s only one really, really bad reason to vote against Barack Obama and that’s because he’s not white.

After Obama’s April 2008 loose-tongue slip about Americans who “cling to guns or religion,” union bosses had to work doubly hard to convince those union members who do, in fact, cling to their guns that Barack Obama wasn’t pro-gun control (despite his record).

Across the country, union bosses fanned out to spread the message: Barack Obama WON’T Take Away Your Gun

Were union members misled on Obama’s stance on gun control?

Back in March, BigGovernment’s John Lott, Jr. observed:

The Obama administration has been a consistent opponent of gun ownership. It has enacted a ban on the importation of semiautomatic guns because: “The U.S. insisted that imports of the aging rifles could cause problems such as firearm accidents.” They have also tried imposing much more extensive reporting requirements on sales of long guns. However, possibly the biggest threat is Obama’s nomination of Andrew Traver to head the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. There is also the Obama administration’s push for the U.N.’s Arms Trade Treaty and itscontinual inaccurate statements about the source of Mexico’s crime guns. In addition, President Obama’s appointments to the Supreme Court, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan, are adamantly against any protection for individual ownership of guns. If one of the five justices in the majority of the Heller or McDonald cases were to die or retire, not only would further gains be prevented, but even those two precedents would be threatened.

Then, in April, the Washington Post reported* an ‘under-the-radar’ exchange that took place (presumably) at the White House:

On March 30, the 30th anniversary of the assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan, Jim Brady, who sustained a debilitating head wound in the attack, and his wife, Sarah, came to Capitol Hill to push for a ban on the controversial “large magazines.” Brady, for whom the law requiring background checks on handgun purchasers is named, then met with White House press secretary Jay Carney. During the meeting, President Obama dropped in and, according to Sarah Brady, brought up the issue of gun control, “to fill us in that it was very much on his agenda,” she said.

“I just want you to know that we are working on it,” Brady recalled the president telling them. “We have to go through a few processes, but under the radar.”

It’s pretty clear that the Barack Obama has an agenda that involves restricting Americans’ Second Amendment rights. However, what is not clear is whether union bosses will try to mislead their members again by trying to convince their members that Obama is anything but pro-gun control.

Their boss’s orders, even when it means giving up their guns.
Then, just like health care, they will be given a ‘waiver’ of compliance.

Then, the Unions will have their guns.
The criminals will have their guns.

    All others, just step aside.

We Will not step aside. You better think about this. They cannot take our rights away from us like that. Oh & I’m sure union has as many guns as cartels. But us as THE PEOPLE, are the one’s with the rights. The sheep are union workers who just are the sheep. Well not everyone is a sheep. Count on that one!

The stated purpose of the 2nd. was to protect us from tyrannical rule. Whoops too late. Americans will never take up arms, making the 2nd Amendment superfulous. Obama knows it, no worries.

  • radicalrighty

I expect by 2016, the 2nd ammendment will be among the least of our worries . . .

I can’t say whether it is simply ignorance, or a deliberate attempt to mislead, but the Washington Post article was grossly wrong about the Background Check. The error was “…the law requiring background checks on handgun purchasers…”. The law requires background checks on retail purchases of ALL cartridge loaded firearms made after 1898.

Forgot to add that of course the union “leaders” will lie to the rank and file (about anything) to get Dear Leader re-elected. Trumpka, et al, have cast their lot publicly with the Socialists, they can’t back out now. The days of George Meany are long gone, as dead as Jimmy Hoffa. Dear Leader and the Socialists in the Democrat party are the union leader’s source of power (and the member’s dues are the path to power) and they will not easily give that up.

just the MOd reorganize to be legal. I guess these Mob Bosses (Oops I mean Union Bosses) will do or say anything now to keep that membership going. They don’t care about the individual worker all they want is those dues. Once in awhile if they have to they will make a stand for someone but only if it will keep that money flowing in. It’s alwys stuck me funny that highly educated and highly paid professions don’t need unions. for example Computer Programmers, doctors etc, The thing with these professions is they can’t afford to piss people off. The demand for their services and the market that they have create makes companies pay them well and give them good conditions and benefits. If the markets were allowed to work this would happen in most industries and the need for Unions would be lessened. This is why Unions fear the free market so much.

Working on gun control measures “under the radar” — Obama’s by now standard MO. He knows he dare not bring drastic gun control up publicly and he knows he cannot defend it publicly (he really is unequipped to do anything but utter pronouncements), so “under the radar” it goes.

And of course he lied on gun control, as he lied on so many other things. The only purpose of the 2008 campaign was to get him elected … by any means necessary. Now at least we have an actual record to pin him to. If people are listening, of course.

to push for a ban on the controversial

    • myron_j_poltroonian

Yeah, I “capiche?” goombah. One lunatic “acts out” and your solution is to punish the law abiding? ‘s funny,I didn’t learn in my public school about the “Axe Control” legislation put into effect after Lizzie Borden committed her heinous acts. Did you? The only thing “controversial” about high capacity magazines is that only people afraid of law abiding citizens are for banning them. Thus, of course, leaving only law enforcement, the military and criminals with them. The “Posse Comitatus Act” supposedly prevents our government from using our military against us on our own soil, and, when you really need them, “When seconds count, the police are only minutes away”. Criminals, of course, observe no such restrictions. They operate and prey on the weak 24-7.

…can make the life of any union member miserable since they hold the power to hire, fire, and determine the hours they work.

The rank and file will do whatever they are told to do by their massively overcompensated fat cat “leaders”.

  • myron_j_poltroonian

Why does America, or, for that matter, any nation of freemen, need the God-given right to keep and bear arms articulated in their contracts of citizenship? Lemme ‘splain: There are millions just like you and I. We will vote until they no longer count our votes – then we will vote more forcefully. That, my dear Horatio’s is what keeps the wolves at bay. Nothing else. Just ask any historian worth their salt.

If union members really do believe their leaders than they really ARE as dumb as a box of rocks…
