UFCW Bosses Busted For Racketeering, Extortion, Money Laundering & More…

A powerful United Food & Commercial Workers local union (348s) in New York was closed for business on Thursday as police arrested three family members who run the union local.

Police arrested the president, former president, and treasurer of Local 348 United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW) on Thursday. Anthony Fazio Sr., John Fazio Jr., and Anthony Fazio Jr. were charged with racketeering, extortion, money laundering, and witness tampering.

The Fazios used their positions in the union to extort money from employers unionized by the UFCW. They stole more than $2.4 million from union members and employers over the course of 16 years, according to the indictment.

According to Courthouse News Service:

The indictment accuses the Fazios of “extorting, soliciting and obtaining cash payments, in violation of federal and state labor law, from business owners who employees were represented by Local 348,” to enrich themselves and others.

It claims the Fazios conspired to extort, and did extort, and laundered the extortion money, embezzled from pension and welfare benefit funds and tampered with witnesses.

It claims that they took more than $1,000 at a pop from multiple employers, extorting them “by instilling … fear” that the Fazios and others would harm their businesses unless they paid it.

The grand jury indictment, whose foreperson’s name is blacked out, seeks forfeiture of assets and other penalties.

In addition to the what the accused are alleged to have made through their “unofficial” union duties, according to financial reports on file with the US Department of Labor, the Fazio family did pretty well for themselves in their official capacities. According to the local’s reports, in what appears to be a game of musical chairs (and double dipping) in 2010, the Fazio family paid themselves as follows:

  • Anthony Fazio, Jr., the local’s new president was paid $172,257 in total compensation
  • Anthony Fazio, Sr., the local’s past president was paid $149,772 in total compensation
  • John Fazio, Jr. the local’s new secretary-treasurer was paid $168,712 in total compensation
  • Anthony Fazio, Jr., the local’s past secretary-treasurer was paid  $86,129 in total compensation
  • John Fazio, Jr., the local’s past vice president was paid $84,357 in total compensation

Note: The above compensation was listed as having been paid out in 2010.

Other Compensation: In addition to the above, John Fazio, Sr, also was paid as a trustee of the union’s health and welfare fund. In 2009, Fazio, Sr. was paid $65,000. It is unknown how much he was paid in 2010.

Right on. This seems to be rampart in our country. This contempt and control syndrome has spread across America.
The Fazio’s are just one example of the evil being used against innocent Americans.
Intimidation is the word. It can be seen even in the smallest of companies and local governments where there are those who need the power it allows.
This union is a part of the O’Bama Destruction of America. I call it the #ODA.
I will say this-if it were not for the ingenuity of our radio free hosts and the courage of our bloggers and of course for the courage of our American citizens our America may not have realized in time that the evil communists were on their way to a complete takeover.
The press would have us believe that Mr. Cain can not win. Do not be manipulated. My blinders are on and I’ve set my course and now I’m proceeding.
This trash, the Fazio family, are part of the O’Bama plan. They have intimidated and controlled the hard working men and women in their union. I say jail’em. All of’em.
I will gladly vote for my 2nd choice. But I am bent on #Raising #Cain to the White House.

One of my jobs is a Pick ‘n Save, and this is the union which my store belongs to. This is hilarious. And the fact that these guys are all a bunch of Italians, too, just makes it that much more ridiculous. The Mafia/Union affair is still alive and well.

We should get word to the Queen that we’ll be sending an emissary over to bring Churchill back to us.
I guess that where there is humanity, there will always be this intimidation. I hope we never forget again that the bad guys are always out there, waiting for us to go soft in vigilance.

The three look like typical good-fellas. I don’t think anyone should be surprised that many union bosses are dishonest. It is a perfect set-up for chicanery. They have a captive group of workers contributing money to them. They have liberal politicians and some RINOs in their pocket. When prohibition went into effect, it brought out the sharks. Unionism is no exception. There is nothing to keep them honest except political oversight (NLRB) and they have been bought.

So much for flying under the radar: “$2.4…. over the course of 16 years” divided among 3 guys is an extra $4000 a month. Not to belittle them for being small time but it looks like they eventually rubbed somebody the wrong way.

They must have forgot to pay somebody off.

    It’s what they do.

All you need to do is google “UFCW Organized Crime”. When you do you will learn that the Fazios are but the tip of the proverbial iceberg.

My first job when I was in high school was as a bag boy in a supermarket organized by a UFCW local that has been described as “the personal fiefdom of Don Vito Genovese”. For those of you not old enough to remember Don Vito, he was the basis for Don Vito Corleone in The Godfather.

It doesn’t surprise me. All corruption runs downhill. Our leader still is an unknown because the media equates native born with natural born. Congress is one big rotten apple and it goes down and down from there. I see the weak Republican field as a measure of that corruption as they play us, the voters, as fools once again.
