MEMBER DIARY

It’s Tuesday. Don’t Forget To Go Vote Today.

Just a reminder, Tuesday is Election Day—and that means we need to vote and help ensure that others get out to vote as well.

While there are elections throughout the country, there are several campaigns and issues that [in part, via WaPo] are listed as ‘Most Watched.’  Here they are, with some recommendations:

State Issues:

In Arizona…

In Ohio…

  • Vote “YES” on Ohio’s Issue 2. The unions have spent up to $50 million to keep a stranglehold on Ohio’s taxpayers. The AFL-CIO’s Richard Trumka, radio talk show Ed Schultz, and former green czar Van Jones are all pushing for a repeal of Ohio’s SB 5 (Issue 2 on the ballot). Ultimately, if Ohio voter’s vote “no” on Issue 2 and repeal government union reform, like California, the increases needed in taxes may actually help states outside Ohio (like South Carolina and other Right-to-Work states) attract more companies (and jobs) to move out. [Jason Hart has been doing a phenomenal job covering Issue 2 on behalf of Ohio taxpayers.] There is also more info at Building a Better Ohio.
  • Vote “YES” Ohio’s Issue 3. Not as well known to those outside of Ohio is Issue 3, the Ohio Health Care Amendment that, if passed, may exempt Ohio’s residents from ObamaCare. However, if passed, it will ultimately depend on the Supreme Court’s ruling on the Constitutionality of ObamaCare whether it moves forward. Naturally, like Issue 2, the Marxists at ProgressOhio are opposed to Issue 3 and are urging Ohio residents to vote “no.”

In Washington State…

I-1163 must be defeated because its $80 million cost cannot be paid for without tax increases or cuts to vital senior services.

[snip]

This Service Employees International Union-sponsored measure claims to protect vulnerable adults. But it really forces taxpayers to pay for the watered-down training of union members with inexperienced trainers managed by SEIU, eliminating the current training conducted by state-licensed medical professionals and credentialed educators. [Emphasis added.]

Gubernatorial Elections:

In Kentucky…

In Mississippi…

  • Vote for Lieutenant Governor Phil Bryant [R]. Bryant is running against union-backed Democrat Johnny Dupree for the governorship. With Toyota’s new plant bringing jobs to the state, maintaining Mississippi’s predominantly union-free, Right-to-Work status is crucial for continued economic growth.

Charlotte’s Mayoral Election…

As noted above, these are but a few of the races and issues going on across our country. If you have others races or candidates that have been neglected here, please list them in the comments.

Above all, remember to vote and do what you can to get the vote out.

recall election for Arizona state Sen. Russell Pearce.

    How will Republican turnout be?

    We’ll see.

    Thank you.

fellow Republican Jerry Lewis. “Republican” Jerry Lewis has the backing of La Raza and other leftist Democrat organizations. Here’s a short article that gives the background on this recall, which was planned even before the 2010 general election:

A “whopping” 30 per cent. Thirty per cent. Just heard on the radio a news report that that’s the projection from the Phoenix election officials about the level of voter turnout in these elections.

Phoenix has 186,976 registered Republican voters, 197,203 registered Democrat voters and 197,022 registered independent/party-not-designated voters.

Thirty per cent. If the Republicans running in the mayoral race and the two city council races lose, the Phoenix Republican voters who did not bother to vote, and those who did not do more to help get them out to vote, have only themselves to blame.

Praying and hoping for Republican victories in Phoenix and across Arizona and the rest of the country today.

          Thank you.

All forty members of the Virginia State Senate are up for election. The Democrats hold a narrow majority in that house, but a six-seat swing or better today would place the State Senate in Republican hands and demolish the last major obstruction to Governor McDonnell’s conservative reform agenda.

Additionally, all constitutional offices (Commonwealth’s Attorney, Sheriff, Court Clerk, etc.) across the state are up for election. As Moe is fond of pointing out, if the results didn’t matter, they wouldn’t bother having an election.

On #2, I have and do own Texas Water Bonds. They have been responsible and productive for their communities. I’ve no problem.

I agree with your organization on #s 4 and 6 (against):

#4: Municipalities have a recent history of seizing private property for “redevelopment.” The bonds issued are taxable, and often benefit only successful lobbyists, who get land for their own purposes.

#6: I think this is a back-door to raid the Permanent School Fund.

      I’d add being against #s 8 and 10:

#8: A small farm has a “registered dam” and tanks (ponds) for fishing and cattle. During the current drought, the big tank is all that’s left for the cattle. This Amendment would impose regulations and probably more taxes on the farm. Might even give the State the right to swipe its water. A Municipal Water Corp. tried to swipe part of a tank when they asked for an easement for a water line. They asked for 150 feet, they got 15! Why?

#10: No Way! Why give paid politicians more time to not do the jobs for which they were elected, just so they can run for other offices?

Sunday alcohol sales in many municipalities, and here in DeKalb County a new SPLOST tax ostensibly to support the schools. Other local issues around the state.

Indianapolis is one of the few major cities in the United States with a Republican mayor. The Democrats desperately want to take the city back from Greg Ballard. All of Indiana is holding mayoral elections today, but Indy is the most significant for those outside the state.
