One of the ridiculous canards always trotted out in defense of taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood is that Planned Parenthood is not just an abortion mill, it is a full-service women’s health provider. Specifically, it has been claimed over and over again that Planned Parenthood provides mammograms. Why do you want women to die of breast cancer, you evil Republican? Take it away, Barbara Boxer:

California U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer is lambasting what she calls a Republican “vendetta” against Planned Parenthood, saying that efforts in the House Republicans’ proposed budget to entirely defund the organization will impact millions.

In California alone, hundreds of thousands of women, the Democratic Senator said, use the organization’s “life-saving” services — including cancer screenings, mammograms, day-to-day health care, OB-GYN services as well as contraception and family planning.

In addition to being frequently repeated by politicans who are in Planned Parenthood’s pocket, this claim is frequently repeated at Planned Parenthood rallies, blogs, newspaper editorials, and on television (courtesy of Planned Parenthood’s CEO). Turns out, Planned Parenthood does not so much do mammograms:

Planned Parenthood is now fighting back against Live Action claiming, in essense, “Hey, we never said we did mammograms.” Judge for yourself as to whether that is true or not in the above clip. However, even if we grant that that is true, Planned Parenthood has certainly never taken the time to rebut this claim, which has been made repeatedly on its behalf by its defenders for years, until Live Action called them out on it.

Don’t worry, though, even if Planned Parenthood doesn’t do mammograms, they still do offer a wide array of creative services other than abortions. For instance, they offer, um… abortion gift cards! So rest easy about your tax dollars going to Planned Parenthood, because they are doing lots of great things for women.
