Don’t let anyone tell you a brokered convention is impossible. It’s just not very likely. And tonight makes it perhaps a little less unlikely.

Don’t let anyone tell you we couldn’t get a new nominee at a brokered convention, either. It’s been so long since we’ve had one, how could anyone speak with authority on what would occur? And if you go by history, there are plenty of examples of non-frontrunner candidates being selected.

    • deVere

These 4 men have invested so much of their lives in chasing the nomination, they will not stand aside and let someone else who hasn’t made that investment have the prize. Instead there will be a deal between two or even three of the candidates before the first ballot,

      • goodgovernance

after what they’ve had to endure from each other. They might ultimately find a dark horse to be preferable to letting one of the others have it, especially if the base continues to make its displeasure with Romney clear.

And to be clear – we’re in a history-shattering moment right now. We are already in uncharted terrain and predictions about certain outcomes have been proven wrong time and time again.

    • goodgovernance

Speaking of history-shattering moments. Santorum pulls off the sweep! Who saw Colorado coming?

Establishment, are you listening to the message we’re sending you?

      • Melody Warbington (rwm52)

that Santorum wins with 40.2%, Romney follows with 34.9%, then Gingrich with 12.8% and Paul at 11.77% – 99% precincts reported.

Wonder what smears Rick can expect from Mittens now.

  • Scope

Santorum wins MO with 54% to Romney’s 26%, so far. Not the most important race, but the optics of such a Romney loss, and of course that momentum thingy. God Lord, I know it’s early but, Santorum is so way far ahead of Romney in Colorado it’s unreal, and even the Grinch is ahead of him there. Romney third place, with little support? Looks like a total protest against Romney tonight. Geezers, even Miss is taking him down to what looks like a third place showing. Very good night tonight for the conservatives, just slapping Romney around is worth the cost of the popcorn, even if the others are not the best specimens of conservatism.

    • proudgop

MO had a lot people come in state Romney gave up on really. Turnout in MN and CO is very low ( I guess its snowing in CO) but I am worried on turnout numbers in all these states

      • mikelindell2

        Newt gets enthusiasm

  • nepanyrush

Finally, a principled, consistent conservative has moved to the top. Santorum has already won Missouri, leads in Minnesota, and, with very early returns, leads in Colorado. Rush Limbaugh, who knows conservatism, has stated that Santorum is the only candidate not guilty of a transgression against conservatism.

Newt, please drop out! Your are taking votes away from the best conservative out there. Your negatives are sky high, and get worse the more people know you, while Santorum gains in favorability the more people know him.

    • Change Jar Conservative

Santorum definitely changes the narrative tonight.

In Missouri, we can finally see the “not romney” vote.

    • mikeymike143

i have been backing senator santorum since day one.

      • aesthete

Is that what the kids are calling it, these days?

My bad; they’re still calling it the Santorum. (NSFW… or for those with indigestion.)

      • jakeofalltrades

Meteor promises to, as his first act in office, permanently:

        1. balance the budget
        2. reduce all taxes to zero
        3. eliminate the IRS
        4. completely reform the entitlement system
        5. cancel the national debt
        6. halt all crushing anti-business regulations
        7. stop all abortions worldwide
        8. bring an end to prejudice and bigotry
        9. unite the entire world in prayer
        10. cure all disease, poverty, hunger, and ignorance
        11. disband all the world’s armies, bringing everlasting peace
        12. end all partisan politics
        13. stop anthropogenic global warming
        14. crush all crime and annoying behavior of any sort
        15. stop the war on Christmas and religion

The list just goes on and on…

        • http://www.gmsplace.com/ civil truth

          Repeal Obamacare
Disband the EPA and the NLRB
Production of hundreds years worth of gas and oil
Get the U.N. out of the U.S.
          No more illegal immigration issues
          Incinerate pork

Unfortunately, SMOD is also the wet dream of those “environmentalists” who view humanity as a cancer.

        • mikeymike143

i think the meteor is going to rise to the top immediately!!!

    • mikelindell2

Bridge to Nowhere, anti-right-to-work, big spending, earmarks, no leadership experience, lower ACU rating than Newt. Not conservative

Meteor is the truly inevitable candidate (Revelation 8:11)

    • znjs

But I figured no one else would get it.

      • mikeymike143

        nt

  • znjs

Don’t know how it was elsewhere – haven’t look at anyone else’s accounts, but whatever you think of him, RP is prepared. Only RP had a letter that was read before the caucus, every delegate plus the first alternative said they were for him, and he crushed the straw poll

    Ron Paul – 15
    Santorum – 6
    Mitt – 3
    Newt – 0.

    • jakeofalltrades

I mean, he’d probably let nukes hit us because missile interceptors mean weaponizing space or something.

Oh wait – better fit for him: because other nations have the right to nuke us, and we deserve it for oppressing them.

      • znjs

That I didn’t go with SMOD. It would’ve been hilarious to see SMOD beat Newt.

    • mikeymike143

isnt it obvious that voters are firmly rejecting the cancer that the loon spreads

      1988- 0 states won, 50 states lost

      2008- 0 states won, 50 states lost

      2012- 0 states won, 8 states lost

  • krish

Romney losing in MN is huge! Twin cities & metro – full of Moderate republicans – surprised that MA liberal lost!

If Mitt is the nominee – I will bet anyone Obama will win in a landslide!

Let us hope conservatives throughout the country choose either Rick or Newt – as long as it is NOT MA liberal!

    • maybenexttime

There’s no other way to interpret tonight’s results. Mitt is getting blown away in states that are crucial to Republicans. Missouri should not be a toss-up state this fall, but it could be if Romney is the nominee.

Minnesota has been leaning Dem for nearly 40 years. If the GOP is going to ever take this state, it won’t be with Romney on the ticket.

      • demsaresatanic

There is more gas to follow as Mittsey’s “inevitability” balloon deflates.

  • krish

CNN crew is much more honest & say this is a big blow to Romney! While Fox is trying to play defense for Romney – time to ditch Fox & go elsewhere! They have been making tons of $$$ from conservatives/tea partyers & republicans. It is time to switch the channel & make them pay!

    • http://www.doctor-bob.biz rsklaroff

…because they neglect discussing the flip-side while extolling Santorum.

  • RealQuiet

This is a complete butt kicking and a half. Colorado, Missouri and Minnesota all in the Santorum column by pretty much blowout margins. This couldn’t be any worse for Romney. And if he tries to hammer Santorum like he hammered Newt, people will actually feel sorry for Santorum and turn on Romney. I didn’t see this one coming.

    • maybenexttime

Even the GOP establishment has to be wondering why they settled on Romney. They’ve painted themselves into a corner by shoving Romney down our throats, and now the ugly truth about his electability is beginning to show. Romney lost big in places he won back in 2008. Wherever Romney did win, it was due to lower turnout. The inevitably factor just blew up in their face, and his much-touted coronation has gone completely off the rails yet again.

Where does the establishment go from here? Do they keep pushing the electability argument, even though now it has been completely debunked?

  • Kyle-MI

He got 3 states with a grand total of 0 delegates. What percentage of the voting population was really represented by the votes today? How many people bothered knowing there were no delegates on the line today?

On the other hand, this was not insignificant. He will certainly get good press from it and the appearance of momentum. He will probably also get back the mantle of not-Romney he lost after the Iowa win.
