I don't even really know what to make of this. Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski tweeted this earlier this morning with no explanation for why, either before or since.
Rush Limbaugh’s blessing of Trump is killing conservatism - The Washington Post https://t.co/bxO0GRFLB0
— Corey Lewandowski (@CLewandowski_) March 29, 2016
The article in question was written by former Bush speechwriter Michael Gerson, who is not really my speed in terms of commentators. But it seems bizarre for the Trump campaign to be tweeting out an article like this with no explanation, especially given the role Limbaugh has played in the Trump phenomenon so far.
Personally, I think the title of the piece overstates it by quite a bit. The main thing Rush Limbaugh is killing is his own brand and his own legacy. Limbaugh was ready to sail off into the sunset as one of the most beloved figures in the conservative movement; now he is a lightning rod for controversy and one of the central figures in the ugliest moment in conservative politics.
The ruination brought about by the Trump candidacy, which he helped foster every step of the way, will probably forever tarnish the way conservatives remember Rush Limbaugh, which is a shame. But, you know the old saw about lying down with dogs and waking up with fleas.
