GE, NFL Pay Tribute To Ronald Reagan

In the panoply of Reagan tributes being issued in memory of Reagan on what would have been his 100th birthday (next Wednesday), this one from GE stands out as being extremely well done. As the tribute notes, Reagan had a relationship with GE as a spokesman in the early days of his political and pre-political careers, and this video does a remarkably good job of chronicling the early days of Reagan as a major player in politics. Something for you all to enjoy on your Friday afternoon.

General Electric also has a site, which can be found here, where you can submit your own stories and remembrances about Ronald Reagan and the ways in which he inspired you.

In addition, the NFL will join in tribute with this video which is to be shown prior to the Super Bowl:

GE doesn’t care about Reagan at all. If the CEO Immelt is working for the Obama Administration, GE received bail out funds from TARP, and also had the law changed to designate GE as a bank so they could be bailed out, they don’t care one bit about Reagan. All this is is a last ditch effort to save face and keep some Republican and Conservative supporters. GE has realized that by signing on with Obama in so many ways they have lost all influence in the Republican party. GE is trying to play both sides, just in case they don’t get their way in the 2012 election. GE does not want to be left out in the cold with no one in power willing to listen.

Do you mean to suggest that large corporations whose bottom lines can be severely impacted by the whims of government tend to play both sides of the fence? Surely you are the first person to realize this stunning truth and we thank you for bringing it to our attention.

Did you have a comment on either of the videos? If not, get lost.

You can never be too cynical about corporate cynicsm.

Michael Reagan wrote that someone from the government (Bobby Kennedy, I’ve heard) squeezed GE to fire Ronald Reagan and cancel GE Theater, or lose gov’t contracts.

I can’t confirm any of this, but I think I’ll get my remembrances of Mr Reagan from another source.

      Great videos, though…I’m told.

According to my refrigerator repairman. just a piece of advice.

        • lexington_concord

That you both read this comment as an invitation to continue the bashing GE discussion. It was actually the opposite of that.

          Hope that helps.

True they haven’t always deserved that, but of late…

and I was personally awarded a handsome stock option award by Jack Welch himself. I believe I am qualified here to opine that the term “fas cist crony capitalists” suits those guys at GE HQin Fairfield – the ones who brought the Harvard Business School fat heads into the corporate boardrooms – to a t. They have imported the leftist thinking into the mainstream corporate culture that has brought abominations like the Tides Foundation – not the Heritage Foundation – into the decision making circles of American industry.

If you ever hear of Jeffrey Immelt or one of his lieutenants donating to or participating in a conservative cause on their own time, whatever it may be, then get back to us and lecture us on that “both sides of the fence” thing.

    • http://www.notadriveby.com DF

I do have a comment, my comment is ( and was as I said in my original post) that GE DOES NOT CARE A BIT ABOUT REAGAN. GE and Immelt are in bed with Obama and the administration and trying to cover it up. Nowhere in your post does it say we need to critique videography or editing of the videos in order to comment. I read some of your past comments and you always seem pretty confrontational. Are you sure your not really a big lefty in hiding? :)

Remember your leader says we must be civil.

Have fun doing whatever the hell you want. Somewhere else.

But if you had to pick one company which is the most up to its neck in the Global Warming fraud, would it not be GE? And are they not the company trying to profit off infesting our homes with light bulbs which, if broken, even the Government advises us to clear the room?

There’s more going on than the standard covering of corporate a–, in this instance.

Sunday is a great chance to promote President Reagan’s values to your “non political” friends.

If you celebrate President Reagan at your party, upload a pic/video to the RonaldReagan.com Super Bowl Contest and you could win tickets to the Republican Leadership Conference in New Orleans.

    Thanks.

What do you get for promoting this.

    • gekster

      cdavis_lv to Charlie Davis.
Still, could you tell me whats in it for you.

  • JadedByPolitics

Reagan they turned into liberal bastion of hell., They are the worst kind of company ,the kind that takes from America and gives nothing in return. Their 3.7 tax rate while Walmart pays 33.4 is just a tad bit disgusting and a real look into the way the federal government picks winners and losers. I like to think that President Reagan would be appalled at what GE has become.

  • itrytobenice

that was given this honor. I realize that the company had a relationship with Ronald Magnamus Reagan, but so did Ron Jr., so that carries little weight with me.

I hope other conservatives won’t be swayed by their tribute and believe that the company is anything but an enabler of our socialist Boy President. My personal boycott is still in full swing, hence my current ownership of approximately 300 boxes of Sylvania incandescent light bulbs.

But maybe a bit of a furor over these tributes will give even more information to the American public. And cockroaches do best in the dark. With GE CFC light bulbs manufactured in China. Heh.

  • luvnthebigsites

The General Electric of the 50′s as displayed in the arguably “2011 GE propaganda piece” does created some what of a dilemma does it not? Thats what they wanted, FYI.

  • throwback59

    with these tributes.
-But maybe I’m being too tough on Ron Jr.

    • http://impudent.edublogs.org/ kyle8

sorry, just couldn’t help myself. that guy is a stupid creep.

  • Read Chesterton

I’m not going to help them by linking to it.

It’s a shame that y’all won’t watch a great tribute to a great man. Regardless of what you think of the company now, Ronald Reagan was a part of GE history.

They gave him a fine tribute in this video. I, for one, will respect and honor it for what it is: a tribute to a great man, whom I miss dearly. A man who inspires me to this very day.

  • The_Gadfly

My immediate reaction when I see the GE commercials promoting the Gipper is that I want to puke. The first thing he would do if he were alive today is denounce the commercials from the fascists at GE. He’d probably mutter something along the lines of “I didn’t leave GE, GE left me.”

    • http://impudent.edublogs.org/ kyle8

and death valley days. My dad had head an early speech that Reagan had given to the Petroleum Club, I remember that he told me, “this guy is a good guy, he says the right things.”

Later I realized he was right. Reagan was not perfect, but he was certainly the best president in my lifetime. In fact, next to Reagan and Thatcher, the people who followed them look like moral and intellectual midgets.

      • aesthete

from that exceedingly long list of moral and intellectual midgets. That said, it is certainly a long list, and one with too many leaders of formerly great nations — it’s easy to lose the valiants who stand out in Eastern Europe.

        • http://impudent.edublogs.org/ kyle8

Walesa, Klaus, and Havel come to mind.

  • rickbull

He said it was a great place to work until Satan (Jack Welch) took over as CEO.

    • Doc Holliday

and a conservative to boot. We are not supposed to say anything bad about GE here so I won’t discuss the place after Welch left. Your friend might just have a personal beef.

      • rickbull

was the one that accelerated the outsourcing of GE jobs to other countries, and converted the company from primarily manufacturing to financial services and banking.

I personally don’t have a dog in this fight: I have never worked for them, and I do not hold any of their stock. Just reporting what I heard from a former insider.

  • lexington_concord

Apparently you guys didn’t take the hint from the one guy I already banned in this thread so let me clue you in: this post is about two very good and moving tributes to a guy who meant a lot to me and if you continue to foul up this thread with the GE crap I am going to boot you. If you want to start a GE bashing fest start your own diary and do it. The end.

  • Doc Holliday

Narrated by Joe Scarborough. Is GE going to play this on national tv? Are they going to play it at the Super Bowl? Or is it just a ‘net video?

BTW, I view the “A Time For Choosing” speech a few times a year to when I need to recharge my batteries.

    • aesthete

besides some cultural references and statistics, every single word is entirely true.

      • Doc Holliday
        • pastisprolog

is also a marvel of greatness. Under the watchful glare of portraits of Communism’s greatest heroes, Reagan reminds dictators that people WILL ALWAYS strive to be free, and he gives hope to all oppressed people everywhere that America stands with all those who yearn for liberty.

I think it stands up to A Time for Choosing as one of his greatest speeches, but then there is The Boys of Point Du Hoc.

          • Doc Holliday

I will watch the Moscow University speech soon, thanks for the reminder.

is so great on so many levels, that I have ticklered myself to read it every month since 2005

  • teaparty2012

that I have for GE, Immelt, and MSNBC (as I’m sure that’s who put the video together), I think the videos’ were put together well.

Something I would like to ask everybody, do any of you find the timing of Reagan’s 100th Birthday and the recent setback the Democrats experienced in November interesting? I personally believe that this event can only help strengthen the conservative movement in a way that we have been tediously searching for.
