Cornell Professor Who Was 'Exhilarated' by Hamas's Attacks Is Now So Very Sorry (but Is He Really?)

Russell Rickford, the Cornell University professor caught on video telling a large crowd of terrorist sympathizers that he was "exhilarated" at Hamas's savage attack on Israel and its civilians, has issued an apology — of sorts. Rickford said that his words were “reprehensible” in a written statement published in the Cornell Daily Sun, which is a campus new publication. Rickford is an associate professor in the field of history, which is ironic because he has made himself a part of it with what he said.

I apologize for the horrible choice of words that I used in a portion of a speech that was intended to stress grassroots African American, Jewish and Palestinian traditions of resistance to oppression. I recognize that some of the language I used was reprehensible and did not reflect my values. As I said in the speech, I abhor violence and the violent targeting of civilians. I am sorry for the pain that my reckless remarks have caused my family, my students, my colleagues and many others in this time of suffering. As a scholar, a teacher, an activist and a father, I strive to uphold the values of human dignity, peace and justice. I want to make it clear that I unequivocally oppose and denounce racism, anti-semitism, Islamophobia, militarism, fundamentalism and all systems that dehumanize, divide and oppress people.

His statement, as a whole, is filled with backhanded apologies and excuses. When Rickford repeatedly used the words "exhilarating" and "energizing" when addressing the crowd before him, he was accurately reflecting his moral compass for the world to see. It helped expose the massive amount of Antisemitism that is exploding from the left.

What we are seeing today in America harkens back to the days of pre-World War Two when Nazi Germany was beginning to openly target, harass, and attack Jewish people in Germany, but also in other places in Europe. We are seeing massive demonstrations where pro-Palestinian protestors are shouting "Death to Israel," "Kill the Jews," or worse. And you can't call it an isolated incident either; there are countless demonstrations all over the country, in blue states, red states, and college campuses. You have major social justice groups like Black Lives Matter and the LGBT community all coming out with a very disgusting and open support of not just Palestinians, but support of the Hamas terrorist attacks that killed at least 1,600 civilians.

Rickford should not be let off the hook for this one, and Cornell should have immediately terminated his employment with them after the incident. I think you can imagine what the outrage would look like if a white professor stood in front of a large crowd and yelled out that he was exhilarated at the destruction in Gaza and that seeing the dead civilians in Gaza was energizing. There would be immediate and unbroken coverage in the national mainstream media, with the entire leftist machine calling for his head on a pike, for his family to be doxed, protestors would be at his house, and before he could walk off the stage, his job would have been no more. Rickford is taking advantage of the privilege that the left gives minority voices; they can say whatever they want, and they will get a pass even if it is hateful.

You see, Rickford likely is only "sorry" because he got caught, and the left is making him apologize for the words he used repeatedly because they can't fire a black man, especially a black man who is in lockstep with the Democrat cult. He really does feel exhilarated at the massacre caused by Hamas — there is no doubt in my mind that he wished he could have said more, but he can't now that he "apologized." He can't say in his speech that he was exhilarated and energized at Hamas's attacks, but at the same time "abhors violence" and "the targeting of civilians." But that is exactly what he did; he can't walk that back. And the fact that his face isn't on the national media should tell you everything you need to know about the left and their media machine; they support him.

Again, if the roles were reversed and it was a conservative white man who said something equally "abhorrent," we all know what would happen to him. No amount of "white privilege" would have saved him from the Category 10 political and social justice hurricane that would have hit him and his family. Why in the world does Rickford get a pass like this? As I alluded to in my previous article, the left is chock-full of raging antisemites and racists, but they won't admit it, and, like in this case, they will defend someone who expresses this. Now, Rickford has the absolute right to say these things and expose himself as the antisemite he is, but with everything said, he cannot take it back, and he should also suffer the consequences of saying evil crap.

The ever-growing and expansive double standard established by the left will save him and millions like him, but we'll make sure his words are recorded for history.
