SNL Attacks Ivanka Trump in Unfunny Perfume Parody, "Complicit"

I’ve been saying this, but Saturday Night Live needs to find some new material. This week they took advantage of having Scarlett Johansson as guest host, having her play Ivanka Trump in a parody ad for a perfume called, “Complicit”.

“She’s beautiful. She’s powerful. She’s… Complicit.”

Watch:

In the produced sketch, Johansson enters a ballroom as the crowd openly gazes upon her. The voice over reminds the audience that Ivanka Trump is a powerful, beautiful woman who they just can’t stand. I mean I’m sure they meant to be clever, but it just isn’t. Perhaps this is in response to reports that Ivanka’s brand has done historically well, even with their boycotts in place.

“She’s a woman who knows what she wants. And knows what she’s doing. Complicit.”

In what I assume was supposed to be the big comedy moment, ScarJo as Ivanka looks into the mirror to put on her lipstick, as the voice over says, “She doesn’t crave the spotlight, but we see her. Oh how we see her” and Alec Baldwin as Donald Trump is her reflection, putting lipstick on as well.

They suggest that if Ivanka really cared about women, she would have “bounced after that whole Access Hollywood” video surfaced. Bounced from what? Her family? It’s just more of the same trite liberal nonsense we’ve come to expect from SNL.

The fragrance is touted as being for the “Woman who could stop all of this, but won’t”. Which of course is also ridiculous. Once again I find myself wondering if SNL knows it’s supposed to be funny.

I literally couldn’t find a second in this skit that even made me giggle. Perhaps it’s because there isn’t one new joke in the entire segment.

SNL writers needs to bone up on comedy again and get out of politics, they’ve clearly capped their knowledge of the subject and it shows.
