Hell, no.

House Minority Leader John Boehner gave a good speech last night.

It was good because it was angry without being vitriolic, and emotional without being fake. There are times when our legislators need to raise their voice and their ire, and last night was one of those times.

Moving along, AoSHQ and Dana Loesch are both hitting the same point: what we have to work with is what we have to work with. We can use what we have, or we can sit down and let the Democrats take over the other 5/6ths of the economy while we create a perfect ideological tool. I prefer the former, too.

If you disagree, don’t tell me: tell your county GOP chair. He or she has a burning desire to speak with you.

Hell no! is a good start!

Hope he keeps the fire in the belly.

Still plenty of turf to cover.

Right now, they’re picking easy targets. The automakers were imobilized by excessive union crap, and health care gives them literal life-and-death decision power over everybody.

Not that I’d trust congress to get me my whopper my way.

last night. I watched CSPAN and hit ‘mute’ when the Dems got up to propagandize and listened to the Republicans. I think they hit a home run. They definitely claimed the moral and comon sense high ground. They didn’t pull punches. That is exactly what they need to keep doing. Even though we lost, they kept fighting.

I read on newsledger that the senior staffers who wrote the healthcare legislation carved out an exemption for themselves on having to buy insurance like the rest of Americans do…Sweet! Page 158

about an unrelated issue today, but asked if they were having a noisy morning. They responded that they were getting a lot of calls and walk-ins. People are fed up and motivated to take action.

    Sweet music to my ears.

thanks to the link Moe’s link to the Precinct Committeeman Project My precinct chair was so happy I called, she actually drove to my house this evening and we had a nice chat about what I can do to help.

Are you doing all you can?

and today I look back with bitterness at the events of the last year and ask…Where was this passion and fighting spirit over the last year that Republicans in leadership finally showed after the baby had been thrown out with the bath water?

I’m hglad they’re finally making a fight out of this…but what the hell have they been waiting for!?

  • michigan

Not only “Hell No”, but this just shows the depth of cultish symbolism the progs push. Unfortunately there was no area to select “VETO” or I would have done it.

on the local level and I concur. However, please be advised, on the local and state levels you may or may not be surprised that the GOP has close cousins with the Progressive Socialists of the former Democrat party. Be careful who you trust until you are able to separate the conservatives from the progressives. Then take the place of the progressives.

Republicans got spanked in 2006 and 2008. Now they feel they have the public behind them (because they do). I was thinking last night that we didn’t gain anything with all the fighting we did. We still lost, but that is wrong. We gained a lot. We exposed the opposition for what it is.

The dems were exposed in almost every way possible in the past year as corrupt, power hungry and elitist. There was a time when people thought the republican party was only the party for the rich. Now it can claim for being for the common man. We still have some convincing to do. There are a lot of good people that don’t trust republicans, but things are changing. We need to keep that pressure on the democrats and make sure the repubs know we are watching.

My favorite part of the speech was when Boehner said (I am paraphrasing) how dare we put our own wishes above our fellow countrymen. That is the sound of a patriot.

  • AceInTX

We could have shown more fight before this…but we wait till it’s passed…and then make the fight?

I’m glad we’re makinmg up ground…so don’t misread me…I’m just disgusted that Boener and the rest of the leadership didn’t show more fight when it would have mattered more

to get involved as a precinct committeeman, so that I CAN do my part to fight them at the local level.

Excellent. I am a precinct chair and it’s tough to get folks to help out. We must all be willing to do the heavy lifting and get these arrogant, useless idiots out of there. We must make it a new day in America.

  • rfpzzzzz

A man does not need to boast about how tough he is his . He takes out his opponents and moves on. We lost this one big. I am tired of talk , We need results.

  • earlgrey

I guess the only thing I would or could add is that it has been a very long time since republicans have had this level of popular support. They have also been so scared to talk conservative principles because of how they are covered by the MSM. Cannot afford that anymore.

  • abeldred

and I hope that others were as well. We must all give House Repubs their due on the HCR battle. They held strong, continued to present facts not propaganda and offered alternatives. In this age of youtube and the like, your words can come back to bite you much worse than in political battles of days gone by. It is essential that the Conservative and/or GOP side of the fence be ever vigilant to not get pinned by their own words.

Now that we have had the vote, we will wait to see what comes next for HCR. At this juncture, watch the other hand…amnesty is on the table and could kill us in November.

  • discerningconservative

The Democrats hold extreme majorities in both chambers, and control the White House. What exactly could we have done to stop it? Instead of whining about not wanting to hear Republicans standing up on principles, how about you tell us what we should have done.

  • abeldred

Americans from all walks of life have been battling this for a full year. I have no life anymore because of the antics in DC. With such a minority in both the House and the Senate, we couldn’t have ever stopped it. You want to be angry, take it out on all the fools who believed the Obama lie and voted the criminal thug in chief into office. You want to be useful, quit griping and help get them OUT!

  • izoneguy

The game is in the 2nd qtr….
2010 is the big halftime show……

The 2nd half of the game will tell the story about the rest of the season.

Virginia, New Jersey, Mass. – these victories were because we were fighting. Remember Washington’s solidiers at Valley Forge.
Remember all the patriots who gave everything so we could continue the fight. We are lucky to be where we are at this time. It is our chance to finally and once and for all beat the progressives. They have shown their hand – time to chop it off.

  • rfpzzzzz

Don’t get me wrong, I like Boehner and his speech was fine but,
like it or not, John Boehner has been there a long time. He was there through GOP failures that lead to these big majorities. I have heard a lot of talk over the years and seen a lot of poitics from both sides.I heard him say Sunday morning that Dems did not have the votes. I just do not want to hear any more BS. I get enough of that from Obama. I am more interested in a methodical seat by seat attack on those districts that have Dems but voted McCain or Bush. Recruiting super candidates for these districts, funding them and having some sound ideas to run on is what I want to see. Maybe lay out an approach to get back to balanced budgets if he becomes speaker. Real detailed commitments to sound government our founders could be proud of is what I want to hear. I felt like I was hearing closing arguments in a legal case that the speaker might believe in or not but delivered with passion. I want honesty and sound ideas. We are in real trouble and I guess I am a little frustrated by it all.

  • dajeeps

Is a great start and I think I heard it echoing from multitudes of livingrooms across the country.

The minority leader was spot on with his message. It was likely a speech he never in his wildest dreams thought he would have to give. I am sorry we are here, but feel blessed to have those like him on our side.

  • Locked and Loaded

Actually, my county GOP chair seems to have no desire to speak to me.

On 2/15/10 I left a message at the county GOP office expressing my desire to get involved (after reading Cold Warrior and the Precinct Project site).

On 2/16/10 a secretary called me back, and I spoke with her about my desire to become a precinct chair if their was not one in my precinct. She said she would get back with the next day.

I received no return call. I then left another message on 2/26/10.

    I received no return call.

I read about a conference the county GOP was holding on March 11, which was an open call for precinct officers and “all who want to get involved in the upcoming elections.

I attended the conference. While there, I spoke with the secretary who was supposed to call me back. She explained that she had been very busy, mostly because of a visit by (I think) a national Republican women’s group. I told her I would forgive her, and I am sure I was too nice.I also introduced myself to the county chairman. He looked in his records and told me there was no chairperson in my precinct. I told him I was interested in taking it over, and I gave him my information. I then spoke with a candidate for the State House who suggested I also give it to the district committeewoman, as the county chairman gets very busy. I did give her my information as well.

It is now March 22, and I have heard nothing from anyone in the county GOP.

Now, lest anybody find any fault with me for not being more persistent, let me just say, I have been rebuilding my home, and it has kept me very busy.

In my estimation, there can be no valid reason for all of these in the Oklahoma County GOP to have failed to respond to my contacts. There is somebody wanting to help sign up Republican voters, and the “leadership” fails to reply.

I worry that this failure within my local GOP ranks is indicative of a more pervasive attitude problem. If so, it seems any gains in November would be made in spite of GOP leadership, not because of it.

I said once before on RedState, “If they won’t answer the door, we must kick it in.” It sure is a shame I must say it about my own party.

It might be helpful to make your desires known in writing. If you are not a contributor to your local GOP, you should be. Good luck.

Every single Republican House member voted against it. They made a good case against the cramdown and the American people swung from being in favor to be sharply opposed to Obamacare.

The Democrats decided to ignore the will of the people and the Constitution to cram this down our throats.

Focus your anger on the Dems. Work to elect more Republicans and, heh, some of them we’ll need for a majority may not exactly fit your idea of the perfect candidate.

Here’s Boehner raising the alarm on health care NINE months ago:

And…it’s good to see Boehner like this, it was a powerful moment. Let’s just hope they carry the message farther than they did when they had the majority. We shouldn’t have to wait for an economic collapse to fight for limited government.

  • AceInTX

Our so called leadership have followed on this they haven’t lead….had they been making the impassioned fight all along that they did yesterday…maybe things would have been different…

As for the rest of it…I’m getting pretty tired of being told to focus my anger on Democrats as if I’m not mad at them….I’m sick and tired of being told to work on electing more republicans as if I’m not doing that….and I’m sick and tired of people acting like there is something wrong with expecting my elected representatives to do what we’ve sent them to Washington to do…

I don’t want them to be wall flowers…I don’t want them to be sheep….I don’t want them to polay parlor tricks and act like they’re trying to stop something when they are throwing red meat to the base while they go on the press shows and play mealy mouthed bean bag….I’m tired of Grassley working all year with the Dems to push this along through committee…and I’m sick of McConnell going along all yeah blowing his own horn about how brilliant his messaging strategy is as this thing moves ever closer to passage.

attend the monthly or weekly meeting of the Executive Committee. Depending on you state law, you probably have the right to stand for election to that position. Do not be gruff, always be polite because you will have to be nominated from the floor.

Get close to those that seem to be most active in the meetings from the floor. Volunteer either your time or special skill to help them They will nominate you. Then start bringing your friends. Walk them through the same process.

You will grow your status as you become more valuable as a volunteer. It is a difficult and tiring task. I started attending meetings in November 2008, was elected as Precinct Committeeman in May 2009 and then elected to fill a seat on the Board of the REC in my county in November.

I have technology skills that are valuable to them and have worked 15-20 hours a week to contribute to the REC and they appreciate it.
Laslty, learn Roberts Rules of orders there is a simple form available on the Precinct Committeeman project websites promoted by ColdWarrior. Think how to achieve your goal with decorum and strategic thinking. Build allies on the Executive Committee that you can help you bring issues to the floor. You need them for 1sts and seconds.

Go early to meetings and stay late, talk to the other members, talk about bringing the party back to its conservative roots. Promote that as the thought. You will start to see who the “main street moderates” are. Do not be fooled by them, they are mostly liberals.

Also avoid being sucked in the RLC (Ron Paul) cult. They are zealots who accomplish nothing because the exclude all other agendas other than taking over the GOP so they can get their Dear Leader Ron Paul elected. They suck the oxygen out of the room and defuse serious moves to achieve reform in your committee.

  • texasgalt

but even then they’ll need a lot more votes on their side to make a real difference. This might even make them more passionate. :-)

In the mean time the bad guys are getting ready to run the rack on us before November. I think and pray that the old bulls will use every possible delay and harrassing action they can think of and maybe invent some new tricks as well.

  • Frank Zaber

Do you think we could get the Democrats to change the soundbite that they love chewing over so much (almost as much as “teabagger”, that is), from “The Party Of No” to “The Party of Hell, No!”?

  • AceInTX

they’ve shown no inclination to do them up till now.

  • texasgalt

every now and then. However, after Cornyn’s act today, he apparently is not only a blind hog, but deaf and dumb as well.
