Rep. Ike Skelton (D, MO) has forgotten all he learned once of national security.

(H/T: Hot Air Headlines) Remember: Ike Skelton is supposed to be one of their smart ones; one of the few remaining people that the Democrats can trot out whenever they need to try to persuade the populace that Democrats have a clue about national security. So, when he says something like this:

Added Armed Services Committee Chairman Ike Skelton (Mo.): “They caught him. They caught him. They caught him. What’s wrong with being lucky?”

…in response to the Republican party’s rather obvious observation that when it comes to counter-terrorism, hope is not a plan – well, that’s kind of disturbing.  You see, Ike Skelton should not be able to rely on the standard Democratic excuse of systematic ignorance to explain why he doesn’t know of this infamous IRA warning to Maggie Thatcher:

Today we were unlucky, but remember we only have to be lucky once. You will have to be lucky always.

The fact that he apparently is so trying to rely on said excuse forces me to conclude that the strain of having to interact with the national security naifs in the Democratic party establishment over the last two decades has caused Rep. Skelton to suffer a permanent degradation to his cognitive functions.  Either that, or he was just a really, really good method actor when he was younger.

if you are talking about a night in Vegas. If you are talking about national security, it’s beyond foolish and feckless. It’s positively Clintonian.

If this guy is the best the other side has, then we are well and truly screwed until we can get some other people in positions that have a clue about the reality of what we face from our enemies. All I can hear at this point is the guffaws of laughter from those same enemies as they read and listen to what passes for “toughness” in Congress these days.
    Oy.

It’s just not a sound policy upon which to rest our security.

I do sympathize somewhat with Skelton and the other Democrats in the House who have had to abandon any pretenses of having common sense or patriotism to curry favor with Comrade Pelosi. Somewhat.

They advanced Pelosi in the leadership, though, and eventually made her Speaker. They could have squashed the leftist bug when she was just another annoying flake from Frisco, stuck her on the Prom Committee and kept her busy cutting out paper flowers, but instead they thought, “Hey, let’s let Nan have a job! That way we look good to womyn’s groups AND the neo-Marxist wing of the Party with one appointment (not to mention the Face-lift Survivors League)” and so they made their own bed. Pleasant dreams, suckers!

…Unless he grabs a clue and retires.

Quotes like this one show why. The op ads virtually write themselves…

Is not a long term plan.
Luck eventually swings the other way.

His district went only 38% for BO in 2008 and one of his counties, Barton, is the only one that beats Newton in terms of Republican vote spread. He has no major cities in his districts, as it cuts around KC and Springfield. The vast majority of his district is cattle/dirt farming and those are the most conservative people around.

He has survived for many years by pretending to be a Republican, but he has a Pelosi sized millstone around his neck now.

He has 4 Republican challengers and my friend, Jill, lives close to his district and is already hearing ads for his opponents. He has not had a challenger in several elections now.

He did vote against HCR, but there is a massive amount of contempt in our part of MO for Washington and all the BS that is going on.

There are ten GOP primary candidates who want to face Skelton in the general election. We have to unite behind someone who can win.

Vicky Hartzler is a real Missouri grassroots conservative and is a mother, a farmer, a schoolteacher and small-business owner all rolled into one. She has the drive and energy to campaign and win, which she demonstrates daily in her numerous campaign stops all over the rural Fourth District. Without the support of Missouri’s establishment GOP, Vicky still raised the most money in the first quarter of 2010 and has the most on hand. She’s part of the new class of up-and-coming young conservative women. She is exactly what we need to clean up the Democrats’ mess.

    Spike Ike! Vote Vicky!
