But at least they have Obama!

There’s a lot of interesting stuff in this John Dickerson article on what last night’s results really mean, but this last paragraph is probably the one that needs to be most referenced:

The night showed just how limited Obama’s political power is. He said he’d work all-out for Specter, but he didn’t campaign for the senator in the final days. That may have been a wise reservation of his political capital (he’s already been ineffective in previous races), but it also demonstrated how much has changed since 2008, when Obama was talked about as a force that could remake the political landscape. Critz won by running away from Obama’s signature achievement, and Lincoln, whom he supported, was forced into a runoff. For a president who is still far more popular than the Democratic Congress he aims to help, yet who is unable to translate much of that popularity to do so, this condition may be best described as limbo.

Assuming that ‘Limbo’ is a synonym for ‘orbital decay.’  The problem for the Democrats is that they do not have several hundred Mark Critzes out there running for Congress, all secure in the knowledge that they didn’t vote for the ‘stimulus,’ didn’t vote for cap-and-trade, and didn’t vote for health care rationing.  Instead, they have several hundred variants of Joe Sestak (who voted for all three), Frank Kratovil (who voted for two out of three), or Glenn Nye (who voted for just one of three).  And all of those Democrats were promised, in exchange for their support of some fairly drastically unpopular legislation… the President’s intervention in the 2010 election.

Obama’s threat/promise to Democrats who voted no on health care: “No soup for you!”

All of you Democraps!!!! Bwahahahaha! I really hope he will go all out for Pelosi, Boxer and Reid though.

We are told he is popular. Okay. Yet the policies he promotes are not, polls show that repeatedly. He does not come across as a particularly likable kind of guy. He’s not a good leader.

So why does he stay at around 50%?

There are 30% that would have a favorable opinion of a wheelbarrow full of manure if it were labeled “Democrat.” Obama gets another 10% because he’s special. That only leaves 10% who can be swayed, and it takes time and more Obamic disasters because that 10% is still watching and reading the lamestream media.

having Obama not campaign with him is quite the blessing.

The more general (and non-theological) use of the term means

“a place or state of oblivion to which persons or things are regarded as being relegated when cast aside, forgotten, past, or out of date: My youthful hopes are in the limbo of lost dreams.”

Obama’s “personal approval” remaining so much higher than his “job approval” rating involves a couple of subjective factors. First, the President ALWAYS has a certain amount of personal approval which doesn’t depend upon performance. Secondly, many of those who supported him are loathe to admit they were completely bamboozled and their decisions horribly wrong, so they stick with him to validate their selves, rather than actually approving his policies or results.

Give him time. His disastrous maladventures at “leadership” will continue to force eyes to open. Pray our nation’s eyes open in time.

If you don’t care about politics, the President has an appealing personality. I mean, he LOOKS like a nice guy on TV – contrast with, say, Nixon. Reality is somewhat different, but I can certainly understand why his personal approval rating is as high as it is. And to be honest, at least he loves his kids and is faithful to his wife, which is more than one can say of quite a few Presidents – that’s gotta be worth a few points anyway .
