FRONT PAGE CONTRIBUTOR

State of the Race: Tim Scott (R CAND, SC-01).

Tim is the front-runner in the GOP primary runoff for SC-01, and he took the time to talk with us about the state of the race and why he’s running.

Tim’s site is here: he’s a state representative and former Charleston County official.  The runoff is June 22nd.  There’s been a good deal of interest among RedState’s readers about this race thus far, and I expect that said interest will continue…

Eric Cantor and Kevin McCarthy have endorsed him and sent money.

In addition there is a fundraiser planned for him this week. Very good news.

The energy on the ground in SC is amazing. If you went to the polls in SC-1 last week you saw an army of Tim Scott’s volunteers. They were walking precincts this weekend and they’ll be phone-calling every night this week.

But now the challenge is to pull together the finances for a two-week campaign. The direct mail has to get out the door, TV time has to be reserved, more yard signs have to be ordered.

    This is urgent.

So if you can, hit www.votetimscott.com/contribute and drop off a few bucks.

And has over a long political career. His reputation has grown over time, and his constituents have repeatedly promoted him to higher office – deservedly so. If he gets to Washington, he will quickly become a national conservative favorite.

Black Republicans in these parts are about as common “as teats on a boar hog” – to use a Lowcountry expression of rarity. Scott attracted some attention in his first campaigns for that novelty, but the sort of local offices he held require voter satisfaction with performance to keep. He wasn’t the leading vote-getter by accident.

Nothing against Paul Thurmond, though – he is an able young man who would also bring credit to the district and state in Congress, but he lacks Scott’s experience. No tears shed if he wins, and if he loses I hope we hear from him again soon.

Either of them would be better than about 90% of the people in the House right now.

Glad to hear about both the D.C. and local support for Tim.
I think this could be a great win for Tim, South Carolina, and the conservative grassroots.
