FRONT PAGE CONTRIBUTOR

Bob Etheridge (D, NC-02) attacks student.

And I mean *attacks*. A regular guy would have be up on assault charges right now.

This is why you need to have two cameras. The first one, to record being assaulted by a sitting Congressman (Bob Etheridge, D, NC-02):

…and a second one, to record the person recording being assaulted by a sitting Congressman (Bob Etheridge, D, NC-02):

The raw footage from the first video is here.

Moe Lane

PS: The Republican challenger that you just decided to give money to is named Renee Ellmers (thanks, HerbC).

Nothing to see here. Move along. Return to your homes.

Since I left 5 years ago – its just gone into the dumps thanks to the North Easterners that come down and put brutes like this Etheridge in office.

However – why didn’t the “student” say where he was from? If he’s really doing a project then there’s no reason to with-hold that information (unless he fears political retribution)

  • wolfster38

More Obama violence, this never happened before Mr. Obama took office. This must be the “Get in their face” action he wanted. This must be the “punch them harder” thing Mr. Obama was talking about.

    and complain!

He cannot be allowed to get away with this!

You can call the Office on Congressional Ethics here; (202)-225-9739

Or contact Congressman Etheridge?s office at; (910) 814-0335

…by the Congressman ASSAULTING HIM in response to a question. :)

  • Common_Cents

Aren’t DA’s required to file charges if aware of the video?

Mobile phone cams and citizen journalism is a huge weapon against the radicals. You know, the truth and stuff.

Obama will be right out soon saying the kids acted stupidly.

  • streetwise

    Let the excuses begin!

It will take you to the Office of Congressional Ethics (and they make jokes about military intelligence!) where you can leave a note about how you feel on the topic.

    I just did.

  • Warrior

I wish he had grabbed me like that.

  • Warrior

    did he to you?

  • Bobcat51

a year ago for Texas. NC State taxes were a real bummer ! Raleigh was turning into a Boston of the south. Miss the trees though .

John McCain won the election. It must be very difficult for the Democrat party to accept the fact they will soon be out of the game. Perhaps for many many years to come.

  • mikejd

Maybe the student was scared or stunned by the response? Some people don’t think quickly or react well when being assaulted.

  • mikejd

This is a perfect example of why the Tea Party revolution is taking place and why no incumbent is safe. These guys are in a different class and are not subject to the laws they pass.

    Tea Party is anti-elitist.

Just imagine if a private citizen had grabbed a Democrat Congressman like that… it would be all over the news, the citizen would be vilified and would be sitting in jail right now.

  • mikejd

something is clearly wrong with this guy, he should resign

  • ceili_dancer

Time to retire him too. Maybe he can take up his previous work in Mayberry as Otis.

  • mikejd

Washington DC and Lillington, NC offices are not answering, but I was able to connect to his Raleigh office.

They thanked me for my call and hung up after I told them what an embarrassment the Congressman has become and asked if they thought it was acceptable for him to assault private citizens.

  • tngal

Didn’t you feel the love, at the end? A Big Bob hug. Take the tapes to the DA and get it before the grand jury. They should have no problem coming back with a true bill.

  • fpete13527

…….will probably see no problem with this. They feel that they should be allowed all the physical violence that they want, in keeping with the the socialist doctrine of the Obama and Dem Congress regime.

The only thing that concerns the Obama regime is conservative, non-violent free speech. According to Obama’s regime, they feel that any free speech that is not progressive/leftist/socialist/communist, should should be immediately attacked.

For Obama and the Dems, violence that supports the Alinsky doctrine, or Marxism, is fine. Remember, Obama’s appointees, such as Anita Dunn, think Mao is a great guy and Mao has great methods. Seems like this methodology is fully in play in Dem legislature in NC.

  • earlgrey

I can’t speak for his motives, but it is possible he was a little scared to say what school he was from. I wouldn’t blame him if that was the case. There has been some scary stuff going on in the past 18 months and most schools aren’t sympathetic to conservatives.

  • wolfster38

with the drunk JoE BidEn, burp

  • izoneguy

Call James O’Keefe in to investigate!!!!

The congressman would *hit his pants if James O’Keefe showed up at his office……

Better yet – send Andrew Breitbart – I don’t think the Congressmen would try to put an arm lock on Breitbart.

  • seandparnell

But he was under no obligation to tell the Congressman that information, any more than the Congressman was obliged to answer his question (legally, at least).

The right to anonymous speech extends to asking questions of public officials too, and is perhaps where it is most important – as you note, the issue of political retribution is a real one.

I’d be interested to see if the local TV news shows in Etheridge’s district’s media markets are picking up this story, or are trying to bury it.

    Anyone know?

  • HerbC

Watched the videos again; Etheridge walked away with the first guy’s phone…
    Classy.

  • acat

What if the student had decided to ask questions of musicians instead of politicians, and got assaulted for his trouble? Would we still be saying “He should have identified himself first” ?

If said public figure doesn’t like the attention, it’s easy enough – just quit and go back to being a private figure. Otherwise, welcome to the price of being a public figure – higher standards.

The other guy has documented proof…..

So when you show up to record your local democrat….
make sure you have someone else rolling as well.

  • BooBooKitty

the nerve of this Congressman asking someone to identify themself!

  • dio55

    This clown is TOAST

  • davidsongirl

I tried to call his offices but there is no answer and you cannot leave a message, so I did call the Ethics office. He needs to be charged and needs to resign.

  • http://www.redstate.com/tnjim TNJim

Tactics appear to be the same.

  • jprice28

Just look at his demeanor in the video. He doesn’t look like he thinks he did anything wrong.

    What a civilized statesman!

Etheridge is an arrogant jerk. This better end his career.

when uppity citizens ask questions of their rulers…oops, sorry…I mean leaders. Certain members of Congress (Democrats, mostly) believe that their selfless ‘public service’ entitles them to be treated like royalty. They abhor actually interacting with the boorish hoi polloi. Etheridge was merely responding as one would expect a pompous ass to respond. While his mouth asked, ‘Who are you?’ what his brain was really asking was, ‘How dare you, detestable riff-raff!?’

  • morostheos

Hopefully, that changes but, as of right now, I still see Safe D.

  • JoeG

All of them now have it up on their websites, but it didn’t go up until many phone calls and emails were sent to them about missing the story.

I love the comments defending Etheridge. He was set up by far right tea****s you know.

  • http://moelane.com/ Moe Lane

Alas, I cannot *make* people email me back. :)

  • JoeG

I think it was dropped on the pavement.

  • earlgrey

Forcing coverage of local political scandals on local news, by phone calls etc, would be a great opportunity for local tea party activists to stay involved and make a difference.

  • spepper

the video by the student who was assaulted by the congressman only continues to offer further proof that thugs are not restricted to gangs and unions– theyr are in our daggone United States Congress also, for crying out loud!

KICK THEM ALL OUT THIS NOVEMBER

  • joecollins

Let’s hope Sean Hannity picks up this video for today’s television show.

In the mean time, here is Rep Bob Etheridge (D, NC) phone numbers:

Washington DC (202) 225-4531 (not answering)
Raleigh (919) 829-9122 (they do answer, and take messages)

  • samsapeel

Um, … this is Assault AND Battery.
Where are the Criminal Charges? Why has he not been ARRESTED?

Why have I been to 4 sites talking about this and nobody seems to know if there have been charges filed, or to care? People want him to resign, and that’s great; but, let’s forget for a moment that he’s a Cogresscritter. This is video of one man committing assault and battery on another man. Where are the COPS?!?!

And no, the victim does not have to “press charges” in order for the Congressman to be arrested and prosecuted. Even if the student victim asked the police NOT to press charges, they could still move forward with arrest and prosecution.

  • E Pluribus Unum

Not that this is surprising. This should be added to the narrative.

    Moe?

  • E Pluribus Unum

    It was heartwarming, wasn’t it.

Oh wait a minute. That was projecting Democrat power onto regular VRWC folks.

You know the nut down in FL. Hmm, I guess it’s time for a video montage of assaults coming from Democratic Congressmen in the last year or so. It might be very interesting.

Many have pointed out the fact that if the student had grabbed the congressman by the neck, he would currently be sitting in jail talking to his attorney about how to plea bargain his felony charges down to misdemeanors. Imagine, however, that this had been a code pink protester asking Michelle Bachman about her support of the Bush agenda as she grabbed him by the neck. Would their be silence from Speaker Pelosi’s office and the White House?

  • paramedichess

Just got off the phone with the Speaker’s office. She has no comment. I asked whether the Speaker believes that citizens have the right to question their representatives without being physically assaulted and the minimum-wage staffer on the phone said “absolutely.” Sounds like Ethridge needs to go then.

  • Patricia_C

Here is his response, along with my artful interpretation of what he really thinks…

?(Holy crap…) I have seen the video posted on several blogs. I deeply and profoundly regret my reaction (being caught on film) and I (am slapping this lame attempt to) apologize to all involved (on my website in my first of what will be many efforts to put this fire out). Throughout my many (many) years of service to (my personal career and my countless efforts to screw over) the people of North Carolina, I have always tried to(give the impression that I) treat people from all viewpoints with respect. No matter how intrusive and partisan our (liberal politicians and our efforts to destroy this country through liberal) politics can become, this does not justify a poor response (to the assault… but screw you! This is all you’re gonna get from me and you should be grateful I am even giving you the time of day right now… I mean, “who are you” to think you are worthy of my time anyway?). I have and I will always work to promote a civil public discourse.? (ummm… except for this one time, I swear.)

Hello…… Hey, how ya doin’ ?

Of course I heard about it. I was about to pop in a comment on Moe Lane’s diary at Red State when you called.

What would I hav……. Are you kidding me ?

Sheesh….. First off, if I were to ever put mysellf in a position like that, I’d have been ready for almost anyth………

    No, I don’t expect a Congressman to attack anyon……

Ok, let’s say it WAS me. You know I constantly train in CQC and other stu……..

Of course I can get out of th…….

You never paid attention in those two classes, did yo……

Dude, by the time I finished ‘reacting’ and actually ‘take inventory’,and that would be only a few seco……..

    Yeah, he probably would be……..

And they’d probably give him a first-class CongressCritter’s fune…….. Oh hell, look at the time. I gotta get back to work. I’ll call ya later tonight.

    Bye.

    — — — — —

Sorry that took so long Moe, RS friends and readers. I’ll run up a comment later tonight when I get home and on my computer. It’s too hard typing correctly on this Blackberry.

    Cheers !

  • tngal

Here, B.E. apologizes. Its touching. My favorite line was ” I have and I will always work to promote a civil public discourse.”

    http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0610/Etheridge_apologizes.html?showall

After you wipe the tears away, you may want to go here…

    http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0610/Dems_defed_Etheridge_attack_Breitbart.html?showall

DNC spokesman Brad Woodhouse blames Breitbart. Said the video was probably taken by a “tracker” of the Republican party. Personally, I wouldn’t care if it was taken by a chimpanzee. Etheridge erred big time.

  • Patricia_C

I was actually surprised by the stealthy slap by the traditionally left-leaning Politico regarding the revelation of the video and B.E.’s response. My favorite part of Politico’s view of the matter comes (as do all joke punch lines) at the end.

“Still. It’s pretty hard to think of a context in which Etheridge’s assault on the videographer would be acceptable.”

“Hard” yes… but I am sure right now there are many in the democratic party trying to come UP with one… hehehehe….

As it has been said… “I can see November from my HOUSE!”

  • teapartypatriot

Renee Ellmers, a solid, responsible, non-violent, true conservative, is the candidate running against the violent, savage, brutal etheridge. Go to her web site and contribute. We must take back our country from these out-of-control d-crat socialist extremists.

  • Patricia_C

Yep… just me and yet another bowl of popcorn.

  • Patricia_C

Trying hard to remember and repeat his party approved text from his website… then FOX cut away to show Obama stumbling around for something profound to say about HIS current Gulf embarrassment.

  • IJB

…And a Republican actually held the seat from ’94-’96.

So, yes, it *can* change to being an R-held district.

Frankly, Etheridge has just played into our hands in making a previously unlikely ‘pick-up’ into a *lot* more likely of one…

  • bk

Just as with Helen Thomas and so many others.

If it wouldn’t have been on camera he’d have denied it happened.

You could at least have SOME appreciation for someone who came out and said, “I was in a horrible mood because I just found out my dog had been run over by a car and unfortunately I took it out on this kid,” as opposed to what amounts to, “Damn! This is the only time I’ve gone off on someone and had some jerk capture it on video.”

  • blooch

    I really wanna know,

Who are you? Who who, who who.

  • http://www.incredibleco.ning.com Incredible

Donating to his opponent is good and all, but I really wanna know (theme of the day) which DA’s/prosecuters office to call. Who handles battery investigations and arrests for sitting congressmen?

I do not want this covered up or swept under the rug. Sugar Ray Etheridge needs a lengthy and public trial.

  • Locked and Loaded

I guess I just assumed that’s what he would be working on.

  • Locked and Loaded

After all, won’t the DA face re-election, as well?

  • Warrior

doesn’t let him out during the day…

  • briann

We (NC-02) are south, east, and north of Raleigh, all pretty rural and conservative.

I have no idea how he has kept getting elected year after year.

    -Brian

  • Jack_Savage

NC-2 went R in 1994 (I think) but back to D with Etheridge after that.
