Meet Hunt Downer (R CAND, LA-03).

Hunt is one of the candidates running for Charlie Melancon’s seat in LA-03: the district is smack dab in the middle of Obamaspill, and as you can imagine, the candidate has views on that. Hunt’s a former general in the LA National Guard and state official, which gives him a pretty interesting perspective on this mess:

    …and he’ll make a good Congressman if he gets the nomination.

    That said, Jeff Landry is also a good guy. And Jeff deserves a very hard look. He’s actually ahead of Downer in the polls.

    A two star General, great leadership skills, voted top ten elected officials, we nned more guys like this.

    His internal polls, which should be taken with a large grain of salt. However, I would not be surprised if he is better known. Downer has been out of office for awhile, while Landry just ran for state Senate in 2007. I like both of them. Landry is younger and a rising star who could be strong statewide in a few years, but I like Downer for his National Guard service. I support Downer, but I would love to see either man in congress.
