FRONT PAGE CONTRIBUTOR

They all look alike to Sheila Jackson-Lee (D, TX-18).

[UPDATE]: Ace of AoSHQ makes a point about the Congressional Record that I no longer have to get around to making, and Allahpundit of Hot Air lets us know that this was not the dumbest thing Rep. Jackson-Lee said today.

I was sent this video of Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee’s announcement of the survival of South Vietnam to the present era with a simple “Words escape me.”

Well, that’s why I’m here.

To begin with, may I be blunt? I shall be blunt: Rep. Jackson-Lee is what happens when you mandate gerrymandering as a tool of social policy for forty years. Note that I did not say ‘racial gerrymandering,’ although that’s essentially what majority-minority districting is: if we were drawing up election maps to concentrate as many green-eyed voters in a particular district as possible and waited half a century we’d end up with stunningly idiotic green-eyed Members of Congress, too.  Or redheads, or people with freckles; or anything else based on physical, cosmetic differences.  All that you need is a tacit if never stated limitation on who gets to be elected, and an one-party monopoly on the district, and you’re good to go.

As we are here.  For the benefit of any natural born damned fools that may have wandered in: there is no South Vietnam anymore.  It was conquered by North Vietnam in 1975, shortly after a Democratic Congress – yes, the same political party as Rep. Jackson-Lee’s – defunded the defense of South Vietnam, in defiance of our promises made to that unhappy country as part of the cease-fire that ended the Vietnam War.  They are not living together side by side as two countries.  Because, well, again, the North Vietnamese conquered the South.  If Rep. Jackson-Lee likes, she could go ask Rep. Joseph Cao (R, LA-02) for the details of that event… assuming, of course, that she can make herself believe that an Asian-American can speak real English just as good as a Democrat can.

Second, and let us dispose of this right now: she’s not talking about North and South Korea.  We know this for three reasons:

  • First off, she was quoting a casualty rate of 58K, which is consistent with Vietnam War American casualties but not Korean War ones;
  • Second, North and South Korea are not anywhere near the point of having normalized relations.  Even by North Korean propaganda standards, which are only compatible by normal reality’s standards by the blindest accident;
  • Third: Rep. Jackson-Lee is a liberal Democratic politician, and they really are that pig-ignorant of American history.

In short: to quote a physicist friend of mine, that’s not even wrong.  But it is rather offensively ignorant, racist, and even racially ignorant.

Moe Lane

PS: Just one last point… mixing up Vietnamese with Koreans like that is, ah, well, not particularly culturally sensitive.  Different culture, different ethnicity, different language groups, and well, generally just different people.  Yes, Rep. Jackson-Lee, I understand that both groups commonly display epicanthic folds.  There’s more to it than that.

PPS: Yes, we’re running somebody against her this year.  John Faulk.  Bet you that they don’t all look alike to him.

the more we point out how unfit she is for office, the more her constituents want her to stay in office. As long as we don’t like her, she is like a Mensa to them.

I lived for 10 years in the district that lies adjacent to Sheila’s 18th (Distict 29 with Gene Green) and because of that I got to hear my fill of her all the time on the news.

Is there any chance we might be rid of her soon? She’s such a thorn.

. . .the same way we declared a budget passed? Wow — we don’t have to “do” things anymore, we can just “deem” them!

All those soldiers who ran up all those beachheads under fire in World War II would be flabbergasted to know it could have been so easy. This is precisely the kind of forward-thinking for which we all look to the Progressives.

Breathtakingly stupid. Stunningly, frighteningly unaware of the world which she stands to influence, however slightly.

When I watch this, I remember all the liberals who’ve told me that they are liberals because they are smarter and better educated than the rest of us, and I laugh. And then I realize that she and people like her have been deciding that the stimulus would create jobs, that the “Obamacare” health care reform bill would be an improvement over our current system, and that the best remedy for our financial issues is to hold a sword of Damocles over all of our banks. And then I cry.

  • ss396

What is always overlooked in gerrymandering is that if you establish a ‘floor’ of representation, you simultaneously establish a ‘ceiling’. It solves nothing.

  • tngal

Much like he made the recess appointment of Berwick.

Alright you are officially the winner of this war and you were victorius in that police action, and oh, you get to be the victor in that other skirmish over there. That’s settled. Anyone for golf?

I was always under the impression that a political party wanted to put forward their very best people. If that holds true, I’d say that that the demonrat party is a hodge podge of intellectual misfits, brain dead hooligans. I have never in my life seen so many mentally challenged people in a political party as we’re seeing and suffering with now. It’s sad to say but the Republicans aren’t a lot better. In the real working world, on your job, you are expected to perform to your employers satisfaction. Isn’t being a represenitive an actual job OR is it something more ? Like a long term paid vacation. I think it would be nice if there were parameters that politicians had to live up to just like in the real world and not like in the make believe world of politics. Is a job performance review out of the question ? It would be fitting to be able to go to your represenitive and say…YOU’RE FIRED and not have to wait until the damage has been done waiting on an election to roll around. You certainly don’t get that luxury in the real work world !

It is nothing less than an aristocratic mindset, on the part of some of the most unaccomplished, unworthy, utterly unserious people ever to hold office.

    They decree, and expect results.

  • gekster

And we on this site are trying to get elected representitives who will adhere to that.
We try to inform voters, try to put the best ones forward, and try to tell people what THEY can do to make that happen.
I know that sometimes we have to choose between the leser of two evils.
But from every pebble to every rock we put in the dam to stop the liberalism and marxist flood helps.
And the fact that your here shows you care.

  • d_lamar

Congress says more about the voters in her district than it does about her. Obviously, the same lack of intelligence helped to elect Obama.

The founding fathers had it right. Only property owners and those who could pass a simple test were allowed to vote. They did that, not to be demeaning of the poor and/ or stupid, but because that was the only way to preserve the nation, which was more important than being politically correct.

  • hoootie

It seems to me that when a group or person attacks another group or person it’s more often than not , done out of fear. Fear is a powerful emotion. But here’s a word of advice folks can use in these matters or in their personal lives……”You can discover what your enemy fears most by observing the means that they use to frighten you”.

As a Houstonian — I teach in her district but thankfully do not live in it — I can say that she most certainly is the dumbest of the congresscritters.

After all, while watching the feed from the Mars Rover at Johnson Space Center, she asked if they were going to take pictures of the flag that Neil Armstrong planted when Apollo XI landed.

The sheer stupidity of Sheila Jackson Lee is just astounding, but the fact that she is an elected member of the US Congress is part of a long running problem in the Democrat party.

When Billy Clinton was the governor of Arkansas and was making noises of running for POTUS, I told people, when asked about my opinion of a fellow Arkansan, that they should not worry about him because I thought no one in his/her right mind would vote for such a pathetic boob. How much more wrong could I have been? At that time, in my naivete, I thought people had enough integrity and political savvy to vote for a more qualified candidate.

When Obama started his run for POTUS I again had great hopes that the great majority of the electorate would see what was so obvious to me, that this messiah wannabe was not qualified to be elected to be a dog catcher, and should not be allowed near the White House. Now, I truly wonder if this country can survive the fools that elected him to the office of President.

When I was a child, I often heard the the old political explanation that if the Democrats nominated an old yellow stray dog to run for political office, the Democrats would certainly vote for him. I must concede that this old sage has much validity. Billy Clinton, Sheila Jackson Lee, and numerous others are proof positive that an erudite and sober intellect and solid patriotism are not qualifications for political office in the Democrat party. Being in the habit of walking on four feet and occasionally heisting one leg also would not be a disqualifying factor.

She is a sorry monument to affirmative action . . . a Yale grad and her jd from the Univ of Va. Amazing isn’t it?

She is fence post dumb on her own and sucks up all the stupid and the urban legends in her district and then regurgitates it in public without even a clue how foolish she looks.

She beat Faulk in 2008 77 – 20. Faulk is trying again. The district has changed a bit i his favor- he might get 35%. If he beats her, the R’s will gain 90 seats.

Best shot at getting rid of her is to redistrict her out of a job.

  • texasgalt

just a reflection of the voters who put them office.

Do you like your Rep? If so, what have you done to support him/her? If not, what are you doing about it?

And no, serving in congress is not an “actual job.” For the good ones, it is a calling and for the bad, well they are royalists.

but the Dems. in NJ just thought he had died.

Look at the Carolinas and Alvin Green. The national DNC didn’t know he was running for on the Dem. primary. Called him a Republican “shill” and claimed the RNC must’ve paid for his registration for. It turns out he saved up his unemployment to register as a candidate himself. (he should be a Rep).

Obamanation thinks there’s 57 states, and Biden thinks FDR addressed the nation on television.

These guys determine where Marines and National Guard forces put their lives on the line. Not only should voting require a test but running for office should require a basic civics test.

Well, That’s NEWS to me. I eagerly watched the end of that STUPID War which unlike Afghanistan & Al Qaeda did nothing to harm this country,Mainly because I was 20 years old and likely to be shipped off to that God forsaken country to have my butt blown off and my remains shipped back to my family in a pine box!!!!! My brother wasted 15 months of his life in Viet Nam all for nothing!!! There is no North & South Viet Nam. I watched as 1000′s flocked to the US Embassy in Saigon to escape as the Viet Cong approached the border to that city. President Johnson would not let the military handle that war as they knew best. They would capture a city, then leave. The VC would return to that city then the US would have to fight again to retake the city. Then with the “Red Chinese” sending troops into Viet Nam from Laos, Thailand & Cambodia, President Johnson was afraid of provoking the Red Chinese and their USSR allies and starting WWW3. I have to give “King George” HW Bush and his son “King George” W Bush credit for letting the Military handle the Gulf Wars or it would be just like Saddam Hussein stated “Another Viet Nam”. That Congresswoman should reread or READ history B4 making an off the cuff statement!!!!!!!

  • jdw4america

is that none of this woman’s – what can we call this blather – “talk” will make it to the state endorsed media, no more than did the other dumbocrat’s amazingly stupid concerns re: islands TIPPING OVER.

Remember the outrage? The Republicans are soooo mean, after all, he’s an old man on meds!! Well, I’m no physician, but I think if you are so incapacitated that you dribble nonsense in public, meds or no meds, not only should you not operate heavy machinery, you should not be in CONGRESS!!

Maybe I’m just too old for this anymore but I don’t understand why morons like these get re-elected. Don’t people THINK anymore? Or is that not “hot”?

  • jim91010

I recently visited the Viet Nam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. and took the time to look up and find the names of many of my friends who did not make it back alive. I was almost sick then as I thought about how the politicians attempted to run a war and allowed over 56,000 Americans to die in vain. We could have won that war and saved South Viet Nam.

I hope the people of her district see this video and clip and replace her in November!

To think that this adult does not have the knowledge of history that a typical 8th grader has ruined my day.
