Speaking Truth to Power: Cedra Crenshaw vs. the Illinois Combine.

Quick background: Cedra Crenshaw (website here) is a conservative Tea Party activist – and, not incidentally, one that NAACP President Ben Jealous would happily call a ‘race traitor,’ if it weren’t for the minor fact that not even the media would ignore that kind of hypocrisy – who is trying to stay on the ballot for Illinois state senator. Emphasis on ‘trying:’ she’s fighting having her candidacy tossed for reasons that Eric Holder would be firing up a civil-rights investigation… if it weren’t for that fact that Holder undoubtedly considers her a race traitor, too.

Hey.  It’s not my fault that the Democratic party refuses to do anything about its racist elements.  Besides give them powers of trust and authority, that is.

Moving along, the Tea Parties aren’t precisely willing to accept the Democratic Party’s race-based shenanigans, and they’re more than happy to speak truth to power, afflict the comfortable, and engage in all those other behaviors that have been sanctified by a half-century of Lefty usage:

To answer the activist’s question: they’re afraid of a black mom from the suburbs because that’s who they’ve pretended to be supporting all these years: it’s been revealed that their support is a lie; and they are afraid of her. And of all her friends.

Remember in November.  And justice for Cedra Crenshaw.

white guy who has been a GOP voter since 1975. I have voted a ton of white males and have nothing white males. I do believe, however, that the GOP needs more non white males who walk the conservative talk. 2010 could be a banner year

    Hispanic conservatives–Rubio-Sandoval-Martinez(NM Gov)-Barcelo(NM-1) Larbrador(ID1)–have I missed any?

African American Tim Scott–Vernon Parker-Frazier(CO7)–West (FL something) Hardeman(MI3) perhaps more for Congress

Plus Nikki Haley (Indian American and Female) plus numerous other female senate-governor and congressional candidates

One reason I like John Thune for President is that I like to see a republican candidate for President from someone else other then the West or Texas or the South. The GOP needs a 57 state strategy or at least 40 of them.

We need a need people to present a diverse picture of the GOP/conservative image.

    Best wishes to MS Crenshaw–

It seems that one statement on the petitions was worded incorrectly.

    “Cedra Crenshaw hearing”

The statement said that signatures could not be gathered more than 90 days prior to the filing deadline. It should have said 75 days!

Ms. Crenshaw has proof that she did not begin collecting signatures more htan 19 days prior ot the filing deadline but the board (at least the 2 Democrat members of the board) did not want to take that into consideration. The board voted 2-1 to remove Ms. Crenshaw from the ballot.
(note this info regarding the reason for the dates came from a post ont the Huffington Post…I just couldn’t bring myself to link to it!)

From what I could glean from the online news reports the signatures were gathered within the lawful 75 day window but that since the statement was incorrect the petitions were deemed invalid.

I haven’t delved into it too much (not wanting to get into Illinois politics..eeewww!) but I wonder what the source of the petitions is. In Maine, you get them from the SoS and fill in the blanks, to get those petitions you have to register with the SoS in the first place!. You then run a few thousand copies and press on.

It seems the law was changed and someone had an old copy and used that. That brings to my mind two questions:
    1) If we want to encourage people to run for office why was the window for gathering signatures shortened?

    2) In Maine you have to sign, print and date your signature as well as your town/city/village or plantation of residence (county if you live in an unincorporated area). Is there no requirement for dating the signatures in Illinois?

    Any clarification would be appreciated!

I’m sure TheOne™ would disapprove…he wants them ALL to himself!

Cisco Cotto show on WLS this week. She was marvelous and it sounds like she plans on prevailing, winning her case and getting on the ballot.

According to the interview, there are 2 conflicting rules that are maintained, for the purpose of just such shenanigans. The legal proceedings were also purposely dragged out for 6 months to deny Ms. Crenshaw ability to campaign and fundraise.

You can listen to the interview on Cedra’s website. It was very impressive.

to Cedra and had a very nice note back from her! I will send more if needed!

Didn’t Obama win his early contests by getting his opponents off the ballot, or somehow having the good luck of having the messy divorces of his opponents made public?

She is a threat, and is being treated like one.

This is how the game is played. I hope we can soon say this is how the game WAS played.

Illinois politics is constrained by dishonesty coming from every conceivable corner. Cedra’s opponent would have been a Mr. Wilhemi who is infamous for breaking many campaing promises, not the least of which is “I am a pro-life Democrat”. He has voted in favor of many pro-abortion initiatives as a State Senator.

While claiming to be “fiscally” responsible he votes the opposite at every opportunity. Helping to make Illinois the 5th likely governmental body to go belly up following California and several European countries.

An Illinois judge will rule on the validity of Cedra Crenshaw”s filings and do you want to bet on the results? It is the system which continues to send Dick Durbin back to Senate and will soon send the next Trojan Horse Republican, Mr Mark (Cap and Trade) Kirk to join him. Despite lofty Wilhelmi type rhetoric Kirk will be joined at the hip with Dick Durbin on many important U.S. Senate votes. It is not rocket science. Just look at Kirk’s congressional voting record.

Crenshaw is just the latest victim of the system.

Cedra is a threat to crooked unions in Illinois and therefor didn’t have chance from the git-go.

Twice, from a very helpful Chicago Tribune. During his run for the Illinois Representative spot, the tribune filed an FOIA suit to get his opponent’s sealed divorce papers unsealed, with plenty of stories to imply the opponent’s personal/marital difficulties were about something other than spousal/family privacy concerns.

In the more recent US Senate race, Obama’s opponent was Jim Ryan, who had been through an “I Accuse” divorce, in which Ryan’s former wife had alleged he had “dragged her” to sex clubs and had wanted the two of them to participate. The papers were sealed (they have children), and there was money involved (alimony, child support). The Tribune sued (again!) to get access to the lurid details, Ryan bowed out and the GOP drafted Alan Keyes to run in the empty Ryan slot. Then, true to form, the GOP did little or nothing to support or promote Keyes, who was liberally (pun intended) maligned and misinterpreted by both the Tribune and Sun-Times (although admittedly, Keyes goes a little too heavy on the bible-thumping for most of the Illinois demographic).

Given the options, my view is that the King James version of theology is a much better choice than the Jeremiah Wright Liberation revisionism.

For his state senate race he had his lawyers disqualify the opposition and then ran unopposed. For the ’04 Senate race, his lawyers somehow managed to get a judge to unseal his opponent’s racy divorce proceedings. His opponent subsequently dropped out over the scandal and it was too late by then to get a viable GOP candidate (although Alan Keys gave it a good shot). It’s just how these scumbag Democrats in Illinois operate.

Regarding writing a candidate’s name in on a ballot the State of Illinois?

And how many other candidates in the past had signatures allowed and their names placed on the ballot using the incorrect forms?

  • redneck_hippie

I thought Cisco Cotto made a good point on this radio broadcast. The opponent of Cedra may have blundered in this bogus ballot challenge, in that public outcry will generate more publicity than Cedra would have otherwise received. She is a fighter and will not go quietly into the night.

also happened to be a black woman.

Years ago, I signed a nominating petition for a neighbor in Illinois. As I recall, the only requirements were a signature and address (maybe not even a full address). He was selected, and eventually elected (unopposed). The petition said nothing about time limits, only that I was a registered voter and supported his candidacy.

At the time I noted that the space at the bottom for a notary was blank: “The above appeared before me on this date and signed this petition,” or something to that effect. Pretty typical for petitions: get them signed; gather, notarize, and submit them later.

The petition was for a State-wide Court Judicial position.

If you live in Cook County, you vote for Democrats. Anything else is useless, as only Democrats will be elected. *

“Downstate” (south of 187th Street, and outside of Chicago), Republicans tend to dominate.

Both sides are crooks: both Democrat and Republican Governors have served time in the past few decades.

    * With one exception: Michael Patrick Flanagan (R, IL 5th) was elected in 1994 to replace Dan Rostenkowski (D) for ONE term: Mayor Daley (D) did not support the Democrat opponent, because Bill Clinton failed to keep a campaign promise. After brother Billy Daley was nominated to become Clinton’s Secretary of Commerce (and eventually ran Gore’s Presidential campaign), the District was returned to Democrat control. The replacement? …. one Rod Blagojevich!

PS: Flanagan was rewarded with a nice job in the Republican State Administration.
