Keep spending that campaign cash, Rangel.

I beg to differ with JammieWearingFool: I heartily approve of Rep. Charlie Rangel’s (D, NY-15) spending decisions.

Charles Rangel’s legal bills are piling up as high as the campaign cash he’s raking in to pay for his ethics defense.

That leaves the Harlem Democrat with no choice but to run for, and win, a 21st term in the House to keep raising campaign money to pay legal fees – which top $1.7 million, records show.

You see: as of June 2010, Rangel has $517K on hand to cover both his primary and the general election.  That is not a good number, particularly if you’re becoming exceedingly politically radioactive.  The Republican party has a good recruit for this race – Rev. Michel Faulkner, who I interviewed here (donation link here) – this cycle*; so there’s a chance that we can pull a Cao, assuming that Rangel manages to fight his way clear of the primary.  Which I think that he will.

Thus, it is in the best interests of the Republic that Rangel continue to burn through campaign money in order to pay his legal bills.  Not in the best interests of the Democratic party, of course – but then, the differences between the two will probably be a minor theme of this election.

But it’s Harlem. I know, I know. Faulker is a great candidate. But it’s still Harlem.

Spent time working on a campaign in Chicago in the inner cities trying to break through the decades of four Ds as Mason Weaver calls them. What is being done to the black community in places like Chicago and Los Angeles and Harlem is intentional to keep them Dumb, Depressed, Dependent and Democrat.

Mason is spot on with that.

But I don’t yet see the cracks. To the contrary Barack Obama, Eric Holder and the race-baiting CBC have set race relations back 50 years.

But I’ll eat my words on seeing the cracks if Star Parker wins. =]

    God bless.

Enjoyed your analysis. About the only way for Charlie Rangel to lose is if he has to spend all of his campaign cash on lawyers. I suppose he could always sell his villa in the Dominican Republic tho.

As long as Rangel continues to run, the Repubs can point to him as prime example of yet another corrupt, tax cheating, lying, liberal Democrat. There are still weeks, maybe months, of political carnage yet to be extracted. So Charlie . . . run dude, run.

What was that our Nancy said about the most ethical congress ever?

His current legal trouble should be the high point of the rest of his life.

to Bankrupt the Democratic party. I hope that the DNC wastes a lot of cash on his defense and while there at it, I’m sure there are plenty of other Donks in trouble that need a Defense team. Go blow that money,Donks.

He probably would. This is partly Adam Clayton Powell’s old district, and he was expelled from the House for corrupt practices and still won his seat back. (In fairness, Powell was only doing what many congressmen did, he was just less discreet about it).

Rangel’s problem is the sordid details of his corruption will be coming out as the election approaches, and will focus voters’ attention on yet another Democratic area of weakness, their ethics. Pelosi wants him out so he doesn’t hurt other Democrats in an already difficult year for them. The CBC will stand behind him, because their only measure is skin tone, not honesty, but no one else will. He’s guilty as sin, or else the Ethics Committee would have just issued a reprimand and moved on.

Rangel will resign to prevent the full trial. If he walks away, the House procedure stops – they only have jurisdiction over members. Criminal charges would be left to the Holder DOJ, so he has nothting to worry about there. Take the pension, get a commentary gig at Fox News, and be satisfied with what you got away with.

Adam Clayton Powell wouldn’t have, of course. When running for his seat aftert the expulsion, a CBS reporter asked him how he had any chance after being expelled. Powell answered, “People don’t vote these political squabbles, they want a hero. Now, growing up in Harlem the only entertainment we could afford was the Saturday movie matinee for a dime. What did the hero of all those movies look like? Curly hair, light skin, thin lips, trim moustache – man, that’s gotta be Adam Clayton Powell!”

But if the 112th Congress has 430 republicans and only 5 dems Rangel will be one of them. He knows where to many “bodies” are to get tosses.

No amount of cash on hand will help Charlie.

The only things to help him, which he most likely will not do are

    Confess, Repent and Atonement.

Confess his wrongdoings to God, his family, his peers and most importantly the people who placed their trust in him with their votes.
Repent his wrongdoings through repayment of ill gotten gains and the increase from them.

The final one is the most difficult.
He must atone to everyone he has wronged.
There is no “I’ve recommitted my life to Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. I’m a new man”.
Sorry Charlie, it doesn’t work that way and never did.

You will and must pray, then work to make it right.
When you think you’ve done enough, you haven’t.

God will let you know when it is enough.

Every dime rangel spends on defense or re-election is that much less that could go to bolster one of its corrupt socialist fellow travelers along the path of entitlement. Meanwhile, the image and charges can be cited by patriots seeking to turn our country around. Win-win for America, lose-lose for dims . . . it doesn’t get much better than this.

…heck, I heard it about David Obey. They’re always unbeatable, until they’re not (or, in Obey’s case, until they cut and run like scared little bunnies).

why don’t they start with the #1 tax evader
    Tim Geitner

maybe Rangel will catch wind of Kerry and his yacht, I hope Rangel
trys to go down with a fight and point a few fingers
    NAH
he will just try to save his own bacon, and not make enemies of friends
