It was a good run for the Democrats, but all things must come to an end some day. I know, I know: it’s downright horrible for the American people to start expecting the political party that’s held Congress since 2006 and the White House since 2008 to actually take personal responsibility for the bad things happening to the economy. But the Democrats will have to live with it, as the American people have started to assign more responsibility to Obama for the current economy than to Bush – at least, the Republican and Independent sections of the American people have, which is really the important thing these days.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 48% of Likely U.S. Voters now think Obama’s policies are to blame for the continuing bad economy, up three points from last month. Forty-seven percent (47%) say the recession that began under Bush is at fault.
There are, of course, many hidden victims here of this betrayal of the Democratic party by the people of the United States. No, really. I mean, think of all of those soon-to-be Democratic former Congressmen who have to hope that the lobbying industry can handle the sudden influx of new glad-handlers, parasites, and influence-peddlers that comes from a Congressional readjustment! For that matter, think of those poor, poor staffers who next January will be facing the specter of having no job and no prospect of getting one – and in one of the more expensive metropolitan areas, to boot. Some of them may even have to move back in with their parents.
The horror.
In truth, I am somewhat surprised that things ended this quickly. The standard operating procedure for the Democrats is that the last Republican President acts as their designated devil figure until such time as the next Republican President takes office: that’s why Ronald Reagan went from a diabolical idiot savant in 1988 political discourse to the revered elder statesman of fond memory that Obama looked up to in 2008 campaign commercials, and how George Bush the Elder went from That Guy Who Lied Us Into A War With Iraq For Oil in 1993 to the wise elder statesman who knew better than his son, That Guy Who Lied Us Into A War With Iraq For Oil in 2003. It’s in the best interests of the Democrats to not have things go so south for their current ruling majority, so quickly. So what happened?
Oh, right, the President’s a purblind incompetent when it comes to actual politics. I forgot.

Too Funny
edintexas Tuesday, August 3rd at 9:25AM EDT (link)At least this goes back far enough to make it clear that it is parody and not reality. I’m not so sure that Coolidge would be far enough removed.
I'm still hearing about 'inheriting' the recession.
eastbaylarry (Diary) Monday, August 2nd at 4:08PM EDT (link)Gee, I wonder who that refers to?
2+2=4 dammit!
Obama "inheirited" the aftermath of the housing bubble
6eorge Jetson (Diary) Monday, August 2nd at 10:21PM EDT (link)Can anyone deny that with a straight face?
And the D-rats contributed mightily to the housing bubble by wielding their no less than filibuster-plus five power to block the reigning in of the GSEs.

Two things:
eastbaylarry (Diary) Thursday, August 5th at 12:06AM EDT (link)1. “Inheriting” implies Bush did it and we, (the Democrats), are still trying to fix it.
2. We here at RedState all know about the housing bubble and the acrhitects of that problem, (Progressives pushing for home loans for people who could not afford them).
My point is that Obama, et al are not giving up on this narative any time soon.
2+2=4 dammit!
My reply wasn't directed at you
6eorge Jetson (Diary) Saturday, August 7th at 5:40PM EDT (link)The false framing of the housing/credit crash as “those failed policies of the past eight (Bush) years” is one of my top pet peeves. That framing gets repeated far too often everywhere without challenge. (Even though I think that even those unaware of the Dems housing policies are tiring of the simpleton misrepresentation.)
Obama says we’re not going back to the policies of those days. I s’pose technically he’s correct, ’cause he’s continued the Dems policy of GSE subsidies.

Moe, I love your snark

The candidate ran as everything to everyone.
gamechange11two Monday, August 2nd at 5:29PM EDT (link)Once real choices had to be made, some of his followers were bound to be disappointed, not only in results, but also in revealed purpose. In the long view, passively allowing your image to exist in the eye of the beholder is not a solid political strategy. How do you design Son of Hope and Change, anyway?
Too bad for them that the subtraction starts from 52.7%. Especially when you consider how many voters bought the whole Reaganesque, fiscally conservative thing.
Oh, and weren’t the 2006 midterms touted as a BIG referendum on W?
Primaries in Michigan tomorrow. Note to self: Get up. Brush teeth. Drink coffee. Eat breakfast. Go vote.
Note (revised): Skip steps 2 through 4. Drive F 150 half mile to precinct and vote.
gamechange11two, who are you voting for tomorrow?
JSobieski (Diary) Monday, August 2nd at 5:34PM EDT (link)any predictions?
Did you know that China has been losing manufacturing jobs since 1995? For the specific data, see Table 1 in the following link: http://www.bls.gov/opub/mlr/2005/07/art2full.pdf
Mike Rogers has cast the right vote 90% since he's been in congress.
gamechange11two Monday, August 2nd at 6:33PM EDT (link)You can’t ask for more than that. And the 8th is a pretty safe district for him.
For governor Hoekstra or Cox. Probably Hoekstra. His work on national defense is second to none. (No I’m not interested in contracts.) Also, having a governor who knows congress from the inside will be useful as the looming fight for states rights unfolds. I believe he means it when he says he has a plan for reducing govenment influence in this marginally blue state.
Cox is using AG as a traditional route to the mansion. Cox has solid conservative roots and is endorsed as the pro life candidate. He hasn’t used his power to make war on corporations and that’s a plus.
My prediction is that the republican nominee this year will be the next governor of Michigan. As evidence I present the non campaign of Geoffrey Fieger. The nation will remember Fieger as the attorney who represented Jack Kevorkian in his murder defense a decade ago. He was the attorney who brought the multi-billion dollar suit against the Columbine school system. He shoots big when he fires. He ran for the nomination against Grabholm and lost. He never really announced, but did a chickenspit version of saying, “But if you want me…”.
Then announced that he wouldn’t be running. This guy has spot on political instincts, and his choosing to keep his powder dry this year speaks volumes.
Off year. Off mood. Off putting. The dems in Michigan are running phony “tea party” candidates to make margins.
Any other questions?
My mistake. Typing off the top and forgot Fieger was the 1998 dem candidate for gov.
gamechange11two Monday, August 2nd at 10:03PM EDT (link)He got stomped by Engler. Still, last spring Fieger put out some serious feelers before choosing to not compete. He has star quality in Michigan and this says a lot about the mind of dem contenders.
Also forgot to mention Andy Dillon and the other guy he’s currently duking it out with for the honor of being the next also ran in this race. (And I pay attention, see what I mean?)
Honestly, no effort to revise history here. Pardon me for spending too much time saying too little.
I would love to see a statistical breakdown
indyjohn Tuesday, August 3rd at 11:57AM EDT (link)of the 47% who still blame Bush for the continuing recession. An educated guess – Democrats and those independents who are still employed and who are so misguided that they watch the evening news. Only ideological sell-outs and the chronically uninformed could believe that, eighteen months after leaving office, George Bush is still blameworthy.
But what is liberty without wisdom, and without virtue? It is the greatest of all possible evils; for it is folly, vice, and madness, without tuition or restraint.

Mike Cox has cast the right vote...???
denisethemenace Tuesday, August 3rd at 9:10PM EDT (link)Yes, I can too “beat that”! Cox has tried everything possible to sweep the Kilpatrick/Greene case under the rug for someone else to clean up! I wouldn’t vote for him for dog catcher! Rick Snyder is my pick, and got my vote. See you at 11!
