Turns out Ron Johnson (R CAND, WI-SEN) hates those ads, too.

You know: the Typical Candidate Nuclear Family ads that’s Johnson’s lampooning below. Quite effectively, too:

(Via Jim Geraghty) I’m starting to understand why Ron Johnson suddenly appeared out of nowhere to give Russ Feingold nervous palpitations. Well, that and the fact that the country is starting to get just a little bit tired of liberal Democrats in positions of authority.

Ron Johnson’s media operatives are to be heartily congratulated. This kind of humorous, self-effacing commercial is extremely appealing. More Republican candidates should watch and learn.

Nice to see his tactics used against him.

(a Johnson press release via Wisconsin Internet News, with script)

Johnson has this ad running a lot on local (Northeast Wisconsin) radio stations. The opener…

He?s a family man?.he loves puppies?and children?.and everything good for everyone?..he even loves apple pie?.

RON: Hold it. Time out. I?m Ron Johnson and I?m here to talk a little common sense. This is simply no time for the same old political fluff. America is in peril, and we need serious answers.

He has blanketed TV and radio with ads for weeks now. Combine that with the contested WI Governor GOP primary (Walker and Neumann) and you have a lot of conservative messages flying around….add to that tin-eared state and local official who think we should spend toward a billion dollars on an unnecessary train system. Feingold must feel he’s swimming upstream .

    considering the conceit.

If political campaigns is a form of marketing and one of the key principals of marketing is timing, then this ad has it. I do imagine in 2008, this approach would be scoffed and laughed at. Then our society, seemed to reach out for and voted in academic, egg-head types. (Isn’t that what we got?)

The narrative is what’s effective and what’s important. We don’t need a hour-long diatribe why Obamanomics failed. We need candidates who express simplicity, “No more politicians who consider themselves rulers thinking so much of themselves.”

Ron Johnson is running a very effective campaign and is actually a few steps ahead of Feingold in having a response to the kind of garbage ads Feingold is famous for when he’s seeking re-election. I would love to see them do an ad with the so called “normal people” from the Feingold ad but letting people know who those people really are. I don’t consider that dirty politcs. If it’s the truth then it’s fair game.

On a different note, I’m wondering if Johnson isn’t getting some advice on running his campaign from Paul Ryan. I know Ryan’s people are helping out Sean Duffy in his run for the 7th district congressional seat (you know the one that has Dave Obey’s butt print in it).

I love this ad. It offers the potential to let the air out of just about anything that the Feingolders can put into an ad.
The’family man’ thing? Got it covered.
“Experience”? Thanks, no; had quite enough of it.
High ticket ad campaign? Self-inflicted wound, with ‘homespun’ counterads like this.
    Nicely crafted.

And point duly noted on using Feingold’s tactics against him

    Great dig at Obama.

Well done, well done indeed. Jenna was absolutely the bomb.

It’s about time Republicans came up with humorous ads that make a point instead of those stupid, ineffectual NRSC/RCCC ads with dire music in the background bewailing Dem leaders nobody’s even heard of and which in effect say “vote for us ’cause the other guys suck more”.

    Great ad! Great campaign strategy.

I was just going to mention that when Feingold was first elected in ’92, he used humorous spoof-type ads like this to great effect. It was one of the reasons he won. It also helped that he was running against a GOP incumbent who was detached from the voters back home (Bob Kasten) and who seemed more interested in the life of a career politician in Washington.

Kinda sounds like Russ now doesn’t it ?

I have posted a comment with a copy of an email page.

I thought all the addresses and private information was deleted

Not so, my info plus info regarding other email recipients is all over it.

    How do I delete comment?

    Anyone?

The Left will be running home to momma. I never thought that Feingold might be going down.

It almost makes November in Wisconsin bearable, just to vote against the two biggest congressholes in the country.

    Almost.
