Diane Denish (D CAND, NM-GOV) smeared by own attack ad?

The very short version: the NEA put up an attack ad for Denish and against frontrunner Susana Martinez that featured a teacher who proceeded to badmouth Martinez’s education strategy. The only problem? Martinez happens to have been the prosecutor who put said teacher’s husband away for 23 years for kidnapping – something that was not exactly brought up in the first campaign ad, and which certainly calls into question the true source of the teacher’s ire. Naturally, the Martinez campaign is taking advantage of this mistake:

And, just as naturally, the Denish campaign is explaining their involvement in all of this in classic Democratic fashion:

The [Albuquerque] Journal asked the Denish campaign whether it knew about the NEA’s ad ahead of time, whether it had approved it ahead of time and whether it approved of the ad now that information about Trujillo’s ex-husband had surfaced.

The campaign did not respond to any of the questions.

Ah, New Mexico

Another state the Democrats thought they had a permanent re-alignment in… but don’t.

Bill Richardson's star has fallen

The bad economy and alleged corruption in Richardson’s adminstration has created an opening for Martinez. I show one in June that had Richardson’s approval ratings in the low 30s.

Susana Martinez Is Brilliant

BigGator5 (Diary) Friday, September 10th at 10:38AM EDT (link)

Politics is a blood sport, just ask anyone running for office.

The latest Rasmussen poll in New Mexico showed Martinez leading Denish, 48/43. You have to be brilliant in order to do that in New Mexico. Let’s hope that trend keeps up for Susana Martinez.

I might add

that our two top candidates in NM are both hispanics. Gov & LT Gov plus congressional candidate Barcela(did I spell that right?).

They are all top flight candidates and are advocating conservative positions.

I love seeing diverse conservative candidates.

Martinez is a really good candidate.

We don’t get much political coverage down here in New Mexico but this state really should be watched and the republicans covered more in this election. We have a really good chance of electing a conservative Hispanic woman who is really good on a vast array of issues, among them are illegal immigration and border security. Additionally, there is a good shot that 2 of our 3 representative seats get flipped from D to R and even a possibility that the third one will as well. It could be a really big move into the more conservative side for this state.

Money Bomb for Susana?

Sheet Anchor (Diary) Friday, September 10th at 12:38PM EDT (link)

Moe, Erick, et al. ~

Susana’s campaign certainly would be helped by a Red State “money bomb” as she is at a significant deficit compared to her democratic opponent Diane Denish.

I “diaried” about her candidacy earlier this week here:

Can we help elect this conservative candidate to the Governor’s chair in New Mexico? :) Her web site is below.

I second this. It would be a really good pick up for the conservative movement

Circa 2000-2008 this would have been decried as "too partisan" ...

You have to love any (false charge) attack ad that backfires, but this one’s a classic. As “they” say, you can’t make this stuff up.
