The DNC’s new pizza site logo.

It might have happened yesterday that you might have noticed what was promised to be a ‘major’ announcement by the Democratic party for today.  I say ‘might:’ Tim Kaine showed his usual impeccable timing by trying to start a buzz on the eve of what turned out to be two of the most interesting Republican Senate primary contests this cycle*, so you probably missed it.  Well, they still soldiered on ahead and made the announcement today: the Democrats have… a new website.  One with a logo that has a writer for the Atlantic – the Atlantic – snarkily demanding to know why the Democrats have ripped off a beloved Midwest pizza chain.

No, really.

A Republican pizza chain, no less.  Which is apropos, because the site more or less duplicates what the GOP’s been doing all year already in terms of races.  Their gimmick is to read your computer information and throw up state-specific Democrats (apparently, they assume that Democratic visitors are too stupid to know who their Senator and/or Governor are), which is either sort of clever, kind of creepy, or any variation thereof.

Which leads me to my ostensible point.  Being from Maryland, this is what got thrown out to me when I visited:

Now, obviously I want Robert Ehrlich to beat O’Malley in November; and I want Eric Wargotz to do the same to Mikulski.  For that matter, I’ve kind of despised Mikulski ever since she gave me an obnoxiously generic form letter trying to justify, if I recall correctly, her support of an attempt to pay for the Iraq War by making the Iraqis themselves pay for it via a forced loan.  So there’s no love lost, there… still, I do believe that if I was the Senator I would be seriously considering having Tim Kaine be taken out and shot for using that photograph.

On the other hand, that’s a perfect likeness of O’Malley.

Moe Lane

PS: This was at the bottom of the site:

As a colleague of mine remarked: fill in the blank!

*Decisions like these are what made the Virginia and New Jersey gubernatorial races last year so much fun.

I went to look at it when I noticed RS twitter

INC (Diary) Wednesday, September 15th at 2:20PM EDT (link)

discussing it. This has to be one of the weakest logos I have ever seen.

I’m not from the Midwest, and I thought of the Target logo, except that bold red is a lot stronger than weak aqua.

I've now seen the Dewey's Pizza logo.

INC (Diary) Wednesday, September 15th at 2:24PM EDT (link)

The DNC does not fare well with the comparison!

My friend owns a web design company

animatorgirl Wednesday, September 15th at 2:26PM EDT (link)

(which, incidentally, has been creating sites for a number of conservative candidates and organizations lately), and he put on his Facebook this morning: “Who are the suckers who pay money for a logo like this, and why can’t I find them?” He’s baffled that they could come up with something THAT bad, which is hilarious considering how the Dems are supposed to be so much savvier in terms of design.

It’s even better that this was their big announcement. Out of ideas, eh boys?

I looked quickly at the hand

izoneguy (Diary) Wednesday, September 15th at 2:32PM EDT (link)

and thought the Democrats were flipping me off….

The design looks more like it’s advertising a day care center…..

Those who had once simpered: “I don’t want to destroy the rich, I only want to seize a little of their surplus to help the poor, just a little, they’ll never miss it!” – then, later, had snapped: “The tycoons can stand being squeezed; they’ve amassed enough to last them for three generations” – then, later, had yelled: “Why should the people suffer while businessmen have reserves to last a year?” – now were screaming: “Why should we starve while some people have reserves to last a week?” – Atlas Shrugged

It looks like nothing so much as a big blue target.

What a terrible looking website

Richard Mullins (Diary) Wednesday, September 15th at 2:49PM EDT (link)

The bullet points bleed over in to the rest of the page. It looks like a trained monkey created the website. Better than that, I think that Scotty line about the new Enterprise(1701A) “must have been put together by a bunch of chimpanzees” H/T Star Trek V: The Final frontier now on DVD. I must say that generic picture of Bill White is better than the real picture of Bill White.

When I check out the DNC site, I notice that O’Malley bears a striking resemblance to Terry Goddard, the Dem bozo who’s running against Jan Brewer here in AZ. In fact, I think they may be identical cousins!

What's going to happen?

ss396 Wednesday, September 15th at 3:38PM EDT (link)

What’s going to happen after 2012 when the Dems have to stop putting a dutiful ‘O’ around everything? (If nothing else, Obama has been convenient for them.)

Sola scriptura, Sola fide, Sola gratia

The 'O' is thinner

dwarfmama (Diary) Wednesday, September 15th at 4:03PM EDT (link)

Maybe they’re signalling that it’s NOT all about the ‘O’ anymore? He hasn’t exactly been the best thing that ever happened to them.

And the new slogan – Change That Matters: I suspect we’re going to see what that means, come November.

Our contest is not only whether we ourselves shall be free, but whether there shall be left to mankind an asylum on earth for civil and religious liberty. (Samuel Adams)

A “major” announcement of a cheesy (pun intended) website. Amateur night at the DNC. Reminds me of Ralphie’s father getting that “major” award of a leg lamp.

Standard-bearer for grouchy curmudgeonry since, oh, 1975 or so.

Let's start an over/under pool on when they jerk the site.

davesinsanantonio (Diary) Thursday, September 16th at 5:48AM EDT (link)

Of course, with their arrogance, and their claim to be so much smarter than everyone else, they may just leave it up forever. I will, however, bet that if they jerk it the next one will be worse.

“Looking at this new logo from the perspective a teacher and an artist I see what some may be missing.

Obama’s old logo was a work of art, but carried too far in that it became a symbol of Obama and his policies. The new logo gives them the ability to distance themselves from Obama without having to disown their own party in the process. This much most have seen.

The symbol is almost pur subliminal in its entirity. I suspect knowing who has created it this was probably pure accident. In modern society a circle will catch a persons eye simply because it indicates something important to look at. A wide circle does that but it also conveys a completeness and wholeness, in other words something that is good. The blue color, that of the sky, is soothing and relaxing, one that does not convey danger. The circle of the wide D on the inside repeats that subliminal message.

On a ballot the logo will draw almost anyones eye to it and convey a sense of safeness. In contrast a red R, even in a circle will have the opposite effect. It is a fact that many people go into a voting booth with no clear idea who they are voting for. this could tip the vote to the democrates in those cases.

What may be the real intention has nothing to do with subliminal thought going into it. In third world countries where literacy is rare, they use colors or easy to recognize symbols to represent their canidates. The community organizers or the equlivient can easily direct the people on how they should vote. In our country we have the donkey and the elephant representing our parties. Niether one is clear on who they represent except to the citizens familiar with out political system.

That probably brings it down to the intent of this new icon of the democratic party. Illegals if granted amnesty would not be able to readily recognize a canidate as being democrate, The new icon would solve that problem. In the voting booth the icon would insure that they could find the democratic canidate, even if they could not read his name or the party name. It simplyfies the organizers task of insuring they all vote democrat.

Ried already has an amnesty bill going in the back door on an apporciation bill. If it passes then in the near future, they will gain new democratic voters and since the kids are allowed to stay, those anchor babies will now anchor the parents.

Most likely we are certain to see a last ditch push for a flat amnesty bill aimed at 2012. Not only will they get the current illegals, but the flow of illegals will increase in hopes of gaining citizenship. Without doubt that will be encouraged by the president of Mexico since the second largest economic factor is the wealth derived from relatives working in the US sending money home to relatives in Mexico. Its a win for Mexico since they get rid of the poor Mexican indian populations and line their treasury doing it.”

Franklyn on September 15, 2010 at 10:04 PM

I have never seen a logo on a ballot, only (R) and (D). But if Acorn, OFA, etc are wearing T-shirts with the logo, anyone would easily remember the “D”.

Of course the Dems have to go with subliminal, because

… overanalyzing this, though your arguments are interesting. If the Democrat Party wanted an iconic symbol to represent themselves to illiterates from south of the border without alienating their existing base, they could hardly do better than the sturdy, reliable burro that’s served them well since the days of Thomas Nast.

The new D logo may simply represent another example of Hanlon’s Razor: “Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.”

How Appropriate for the Democratic Party

libertyhawk Thursday, September 16th at 12:44AM EDT (link)

The new logo consists of the letters O and D, hmmm, OD … America has OVERDOSED on democratic socialistic policies, corruption, massive/irresponsible spending, and reckless endangerment … for the spelling challenged, OD is short for ODIUS. Hmmm, another play on words. US is another word for we, so let’s combine it with the music for “We are Family” and now we have a theme song for the new logo: WE ARE ODIUS. Sounds like a greek tragedy … Lets find out on November 2nd !

Any Songwriters & Musicians Here ???

libertyhawk Thursday, September 16th at 1:01AM EDT (link)

Let’s make fun of the new logo. Write songs and set it to music – original or credited adaptations, with a photo montage and posted on YouTube. The theme is OD, Overdose (The Pusherman by Steppenwolf perhaps?) and/or ODius (hmmm… Aquarius from the 5th Dimension comes to mind …) and let’s totally trash their new branding effort. It may be fun, funny, and educational too! Viral marketing – right between the eyes !

That is the WORST logo design EVER. My sister is a blossoming graphic designer, and her stuff is infinitely better than that–AND SHE’S AN AMATEUR! Cannot believe someone actually paid for that. That probably took, what, five minutes in Photoshop? Heck, *I* could do that, and my skills aren’t even in graphic design!

Y’know, the new website and logo are probably a pretty fair representation of how lousy the Dems really are. I think I know why they seem to have gotten away from the donkey, though: they got tired of being called jackasses.

“*They* say the best weapon is one you never have to fire. I respectfully disagree. I *prefer* the weapon you only have to fire *once*. That’s how Dad did it; that’s how America does it… and it’s worked out pretty well so far.”

Also:

stephaniet Thursday, September 16th at 8:34AM EDT (link)

Their little slogan of “Change that matters”? I think they ripped it off from the pharmaceutical company where my dad works: Eli Lilly and Co. Their slogan is “Answers that matter.” Incidentally, both the company and the D’s are screwing people over.

“*They* say the best weapon is one you never have to fire. I respectfully disagree. I *prefer* the weapon you only have to fire *once*. That’s how Dad did it; that’s how America does it… and it’s worked out pretty well so far.”

Mikulski Loathing

tomswifty Thursday, September 16th at 10:36AM EDT (link)

Having worked in Maryland from ’86-’99 for an agency supporting the Hubble, my loathing of Mikulski goes way back to ’90 when Mikulski called the HST a “Techno Turkey”, but then was right in the front row when the repair mission happened calling it “a technological wonder”. I too experienced her and Mr. Sarbanes’ form letters to my legitimate concerns about their positions.

What a tool.

This is stupid...

Change that matters. Heck ya!

americancentinel Thursday, September 16th at 12:15PM EDT (link)

Too many comments to know if I’m the only one that thinks the Democrats picked a darn good slogan.

Historical deficits and a national debt that threatens the solvency of the entire nation, Government expansion that seems boundless and out of control, vote-buying like never before, backroom deals that rob Americans of both their money and their health care choices, efforts to limit free speech, freedom of religion, and a constant push for socialism..

Yes all change that matters. It will matter in November when they take a historic drubbing to match their historic spending.
