Democratic Death Panel Watch, 10/05/2010.

Via Jim Geraghty, reports are in that the following three districts have been abandoned by the DCCC.  Well, technically, all that’s happening is one week’s worth of ad purchases have been canceled by the DCCC.  Then again, there’s only four weeks left – and it’s not like any of them are considered safe retentions at this point:

  • IN-08.  Open seat: the old incumbent is Brad Ellsworth, who decided not to run again in favor of losing a Senate race to Dan Coats. The Democratic challenger to Larry Bucshon is pretty much irrelevant at this point; Cook rates this seat as Likely Republican.
  • IN-09.  The incumbent is Baron Hill (best known for this); his opponent is Todd Young.  Cook rates this one as Toss-Up.
  • TX-17.  The incumbent is Chet Edwards; his opponent is Bill Flores.  Cook rates this one as Toss-Up.

It should be emphasized that Chet Edwards has been in Congress for twenty years; he survived the Texas Redistricting Massacre of 2003 and has been holding on ever since; he’s on the Budget and Appropriations committees.  Baron Hill was in Congress from 1998 to 2004, got beat in 2004, then came back in 2006.  These are not political neophytes, nor are they unskilled (Hill is conceited and arrogant, but not unskilled).  Their seats should not be hard to defend.

Which makes you wonder which seats are in even worse shape.

I'd be so glad to see HIll out

His treatment of constituents and tea party members was unbecoming of a public servant. IMHO

Good to get this news now. need to keep working hard on GOTV. This puts a little wind at the back.

it’s nice to get another loss on hill’s resume, as he’s often mentioned as a candidate for higher office (senate or governor) and even flirted with being the sacrificial lamb at the dan coates slaughtering this year (a privilege that now belongs to the aformentioned brad ellsworth).

Anyone Got a Comprehensive List of The Districts That The DCCC Has Bailed On?

IJB Tuesday, October 5th at 8:48PM EDT (link)

There’s these three, AZ-01 and AZ-05, ND-AL, and… I’m drawing a blank.

So anyone got a list of all the districts abandoned by the DCCC?

I think, at this point, it’s up to a dozen or more districts abandoned by the Dem committees (not counting Senate races)…

I don't but WAPO

under news–under politics then under campaigns then click on follow the money has some good info.

I tend to be cynical about these reports. smoke and mirrors.

sadly the democrats know every loophole around McCain Feingold. Disclosure rules are a joke.

For instance the DCCC can transfer 300K to the Indiana democratic party and then they can buy ads in IN8/IN9 and thats after the DCCC cancels an ad buy.

The news is that I think GOP candidates will have enough funds to compete.

OK, So The DCCC Is Now Spening in AZ-05...

IJB Wednesday, October 6th at 12:04AM EDT (link)

(And I’m not sure why – AZ-05 seems like the most *likely* D loss in AZ!)

Anyway, it looks like the DCCC is spending *nothing* in ND, SD, IN, TX, LA, NM, TN(!), CO, NV, and NH(!) (or CT or NJ). And they ain’t spending much in FL, CA or AZ (or MA).

So, the list of districts (by no means complete!) that the DCCC’s cut loose looks like: ND-AL, SD-AL, AZ-01, IN-08, IN-09, TX-17, TN-08 (and TN-06, of course), LA-03, NY-19, NY-29, and FL-02, FL-08 & FL-24.

Sometimes what’s interesting is when one committee is spending money when the other isn’t. For example, the DCCC is pouring big money into NC-08, but the NRCC has spent nothing there (why?! do they know something we don’t?…). Meanwhile, the NRCC is spending in NC-07, but the DCCC isn’t. And the DCCC is spending in VA-02 and VA-11, while the NRCC is spending in VA-05 (hardly seems necessary!) and VA-09.

Interesting…

It gets better: Chet Edwards is polling 19 points down

E Pluribus Unum (Diary) Tuesday, October 5th at 9:12PM EDT (link)

Yes, it’s by a “Republican-leaning” pollster called OnMessage, but to my knowledge it is the ONLY poll done in that district.

And let’s put it this way. Republicans have endured the propaganda coming out of Dem-biased outfits for generations. They can suck on it now. And all the indicators (demographics, signage, voting history of this district) do not sound like “toss-up” to me personally.

I’ll just say this. If Cook is calling this a toss-up, and by their standards they’re looking at Dems holding at 227-208, I’ll take my chances. I think Cook is scared to call what they see with their own eyes.

My father lives in Chet Edwards district

izoneguy (Diary) Tuesday, October 5th at 9:19PM EDT (link)

And says he is worthless….

My father is a vet and had some issues with the VA over some medical records issue. He asked Chet for help and Chet sent a form letter thanking my father for his support……

Those who had once simpered: “I don’t want to destroy the rich, I only want to seize a little of their surplus to help the poor, just a little, they’ll never miss it!” – then, later, had snapped: “The tycoons can stand being squeezed; they’ve amassed enough to last them for three generations” – then, later, had yelled: “Why should the people suffer while businessmen have reserves to last a year?” – now were screaming: “Why should we starve while some people have reserves to last a week?” – Atlas Shrugged

Goodbye to the so-called bluedog, Edwards but

any thought on who put Flores up to this:

I’m guessing NRCC and of course McCain is LOADED with cash he doesn’t need in Arizona.

Yes....John F-ing McCain

E Pluribus Unum (Diary) Wednesday, October 6th at 12:20AM EDT (link)

I don’t get it, but I think Flores was going for “defense hawk John McCain”, as opposed to “Gang-of-14″ McCain, McCain-Feingold” McCain, “Worthless Squish Candidate” McCain, or my favorite “OK, you can build your GxxDxxxx fence” McCain.

The good news is that at this point, I’m not even sure a dead girl AND a live boy in his bed is going to lose this race.

texasgalt (Diary) Wednesday, October 6th at 1:05AM EDT (link)

that Flores needed to make inroads with the veteran groups.

You are right. Flores is gonna win this. Even Edwards is starting look and sound like he knows it.

Still, when I first saw the McCain spot, I threw-up in my mouth a bit.

Edwards is down in the polls and there is

abeldred (Diary) Tuesday, October 5th at 9:58PM EDT (link)

a huge Texas sized effort to GET HIM OUT! We are working the phones from all over the state in this race to achieve a Flores victory. In the most recent polling done by the liberal rag the Dallas Morning News, Flores is surging and Edwards is feeling sorry for himself. http://www.kwtx.com/home/headlines/104313029.html

Liberal Rag

edintexas Wednesday, October 6th at 10:47AM EDT (link)

Your comment on the DMN reminded me of the time when Dallas had 2 daily circulation papers. When Dallas had a morning (Dallas Morning News) and afternoon (Dallas Time Herald) newspapers, the Times Herald was “that Liberal Rag” to many (besides myself). The Morning News was the “conservative” paper. After the Times Herald folded, the Morning News took up the banner of “Liberal Rag”. Now most papers are “Liberal Rags” (even the WSJ is conservative only editorially, perhaps because so much news comes from “services” like AP, McClatchy, etc.). Obvious exceptions are the Washington Times and Washington Examiner.

but Oberstar is only up three in Minnesota. OBERSTAR. He’s been their congressman for 36 years, and never wins by less than 30%. Wow…. voting for the anti-life health care bill must be hurting him horribly…

Don't Overlook TX 25

popdaddy Tuesday, October 5th at 11:18PM EDT (link)

Best regards to Bill Flores for putting the State of Texas out of the misery of Chet Edwards.

The last state redistricting plan also doomed several counties east of the Socialist Republic of Travis County to the misery of Lloyd Doggett. Doggett was lucky to ride the wave of the old hippies, socialists, minorities and poorly selected GOP canidates in two successive elections.

The time has come to unseat this Socialist Democrat and free those counties from no representation.

Dr. Donna Campbell, a practicing emergency room physician who ran a strong GOP primary campaign and deserves Redstate support to win Texas District 25. Dr. Donna Campbell can put an end to the misery of Nancy Pelosi’s lapdog Lloyd Doggett.

Campbell needs money and lots of it.

texasgalt (Diary) Tuesday, October 5th at 11:44PM EDT (link)

If she had 750K to get her message out, she could win.

Just south of Austin where my daughter lives the yards are covered with Campbell signs.

I'll do it. Thanks. -nt

Hill

(Hill is conceited and arrogant, but not unskilled). Their seats should not be hard to defend.

Hill s all that and more. Don’t toss this one away just yet, the voters are a little more than POed that he will not hold or even attend town hall meetings.
Sunbing is our ally in his case.
