John Tierney’s (D, MA-06) wife to plead guilty to tax fraud.

It’s bad enough when Democratic politicians commit tax fraud on their own: now they’re having it show up among family members. What is this, contagious or something? Maybe we should make them start wearing face masks. Or biohazard suits.

The executive summary of this story is that Tierney’s wife is going to plead guilty to “four counts of aiding and abetting the filing of false tax returns by her brother.” She’s apparently gone with a plea bargain – because not being able to use one’s status as the wife of a seven-term Congressman to get probation for your tax cheating requires skill – and, of course, none of this is her fault, according to her husband.  I suppose that it would be a bit unfair of me to expect him to say anything else.  Still, these two sentences kind of jump out at one:

He said that she agreed to pay her brother’s personal obligations, some family obligations, and tax payments from an account he funded.

Tierney said Eremian’s taxes were paid to the government, and the mistake Patrice Tierney made was listing his earnings as ”commissions” rather than ”illegal gambling.”

As one of my colleagues noted last night, that sort of gives the whole game away right there.  I’m not exactly sure which obscure Treasury official came up with the idea of making it an additional crime not to declare your illegal income to the IRS, but darned if that little wrinkle hasn’t put its share and more of bad people behind bars.

PS: Bill Hudak for MA-06His immediate family’s not in court for tax fraud today.

Man, Massachusetts campaign slogans are as easy to write as Illinois ones are.

    …Even in ‘non-wave’ years.

Yeah, sure, it’s not always possible to do so. But if you can manage it, you might just take out a “safe” incumbent after something like this breaks (see, for example: “Dollar Bill” Jefferson and LA-02). Even in some place like MA!

    It’s in the second sentence.

It is near the end though.

Tierney represents the Sixth District, which covers the North Shore and stretches from Saugus to Salisbury, and he has been active on foreign policy issues. He first won office in 1996, defeating Republican congressman Peter Torkildsen, and has won reelection by comfortable margins since.

to mention that John Conyers wife has been sentenced to prison for corruption. She was a detroit city councilman.

Unfortunately I don’t think it will. Tierney’s opponent, Bill Hudak, knows the issues backwards and frontwards…but he’s got the “birther” label attached to him.
Also he put this sign in his yard 2 years ago:

Makes 4 MA Congressional districts I see going GOP in 4 weeks. The other 3 being the ones held by Delahunt, Frank, and Tsongas.

Then they can vote for the bill, before they vote against it, and we won’t be able to tell who is who.

So, what. I do not support the birthers, though I would like to know for sure where Obama was born. It is something we will never know for sure as, if he was not born here, everything has long ago been hidden or destroyed that could prove it. No candidate is perfect, so if he knows the issues as many on here say he does, get out and work for him.

It’s fun to see Lib-Dems caught in their ‘tax-the-rich’ hypocrisy but, seriously, arcane and contradictory tax laws make it hard *not* to run afoul of the IRS. Heritage had an estimate that Americans (on average) unknowingly commit 3 felonies a DAY… The “criminalization” of our daily lives must be stopped.

Voters won’t likely pay that much attention to this. I doubt this would flip more than a total of 1% of the voters from him over to Hudak. LSM won’t make much of it, and after all, it’s the congressman’s wife, not him. Nothing to see here, move along.

Oh, wait, LSM sure is playing up Meg Whitman’s husband’s supposedly knowing that their housekeeper was an illegal. Allred is milking it for all it’s worth, and LSM are lapping it up and yapping it out 24/7. And of course this is for a minor infraction (employing an illegal), as opposed to major tax evasion. But of course we all know there is no double-standard for Democrats versus Republicans…

    THE RACE HAS TIGHTENED.
A recent poll, conducted by Public Opinion Strategies among
likely voters, shows Hudak can win this election. He is trailing Tierney by only 7%, and leads among Independent voters. Hudak also are leads among “Wrong Track” voters by 22%, and is tied among 65% of the voters who have heard of both candidates.
The recent revelations about John Tierney’s wife and, most recently his on-camera fibs about what he knew, are closing the gap.
In the heavily Democrat city of Lynn, Massachusetts a poll by the Lynn Item shows a majority of respondents think Tierney should not run. Even the very liberal Boston Globe editorial page has called for full disclosure by Tierney. Stay tuned.
