Steven is up against long-term incumbent Gene Taylor, who has the profound misfortune of being a Blue Dog in an election cycle where people have started noticing that Blue Dogs aren’t living up to their reputation for fiscal conservatism. Steven and I talked about that, and other things:

Gene Taylor
irishfreedomfighter (Diary) Wednesday, October 13th at 11:36AM EDT (link)has lived up to his Blue Dog status. He’s the only one who has opposed Obama at every turn (Walt Minnick, Collin Peterson, and Bobby Bright opposed Obama most of the time as well), but Taylor has said he will vote to repeal ObamaCare (he voted against it), he is pro-life, pro-gun, pro-traditional marriage, voted against cap and trade, voted against the stimulus, and did not endorse a Democrat for president in 2008.
What exactly is the rationale for spending money to defeat Taylor when there are actual Democrats who are threats to our country that can be defeated?
We have to support conservatives, not Republicans. Taylor seems to be pretty conservative to me.
That being said, maybe I’m wrong and Taylor deserves to be defeated. However, from what I’ve seen of him, he seems to be ok to me.
MS-4 should be represented by a more conservative person than Gene Taylor
pilgrim (Diary) Wednesday, October 13th at 12:07PM EDT (link)Only two Ds opposed Obama at every turn, and both of them are from Alabama, Bobby Bright and Parker Griffith. They both voted yes on the border fence and Gene Taylor voted No.
Simple
ktsub (Diary) Wednesday, October 13th at 12:07PM EDT (link)Gene enables the liberal Democrats to control the House, and set the agenda. Gene Taylor, allows liberal committee chairs to advance Pelosi’s agenda. Keep up with the program!
Do not shill for Democrats here, irishfreedomfighter.

I am not shilling
irishfreedomfighter (Diary) Wednesday, October 13th at 1:26PM EDT (link)for Democrats. I simply said that Taylor seems pretty conservative, and that our money could be better spent elsewhere to defeat liberals.
What part of 'This is not a topic for discussion...'
Moe Lane (Diary) Wednesday, October 13th at 3:33PM EDT (link)…was unclear?

I sure would have.
My rational for opposing
rdelbov Wednesday, October 13th at 12:32PM EDT (link)gene Taylor is very simple and it comes down to three points.
1. A vote for Gene Taylor is a vote for putting the democrats in charge of our spending and taxing plans in the house. Forgot who is speaker. That’s important but who controls the committee and flow of legislation. Who controls the committees?
2. Candidate Palazzo touched a bit on this point. Gene Taylor can vote no on every Obama bill but he is no conservative leader. He has one legislative priority and that’s the re-election of Gene Taylor. Where are all the Taylor roll-back bills or the alternative spending plans? Has he and the blue dogs introduced an alternative budget or tax bill with no guarantee of votes to Pelosi unless they an up or down vote? Gene Taylor and the blue dogs do not lead on these crucial issues. They hang back and wait to see if Nancy gets to 218
3. A vote for Taylor is a vote for Obama and his agenda. Period end of story.
Ok
irishfreedomfighter (Diary) Wednesday, October 13th at 1:29PM EDT (link)I see your points. And to all, don’t crucify me simply for saying that Taylor seems pretty conservative and that there are worse Democrats than him. I said I could be wrong about whether he is good or not.

jacksonian Monday, October 25th at 9:48PM EDT (link)Irish – looks like you got the message, but for any other searching here who remain unconvinced…
I have voted for Taylor for a decade, even driving 3 hrs home from grad school to do so.
He needs to go.
In addition to the above, consider this anecdotal – in 2008 during the crisis, I called and emailed his office – something I have never done in spite of paying attention and voting for years. He DID vote no, but he also sent back a LONG diatribe email copied from some Democrat press release, stating the evils of Bush tax cuts, yada yada yada. He blamed Bush for the economic collapse.
Vote for Taylor and you vote for Pelosi and you vote for NON-vote in the agenda. He has to go.
Additionally – lately the local news has gone to him to ask about Katrina “victimes” who won’t go look for work but are on the public dollar. He told them – I heard it myself – that it was their “job” to investigate it – he did not have timne. They did and reported back. He was even more arrogant than before, even though they detailed the exact cost in tax dolllars and had recorded these people saying they would not go look for work until someone made them.
He has to go.
He had enough of a history...
Moe Lane (Diary) Wednesday, October 13th at 12:30PM EDT (link)…to give him the benefit of the doubt. After all, maybe nobody ever told him that when given a choice between an imitation Republican and a real one, one should default to going with the real one.
