Democratic Death Panel Watch: The Line of Credit.

Reportedly, the DCCC has acquired a $17 million dollar line of credit for the November elections.  Leaving aside the hilarity of the committee suddenly feeling the need to put in for emergency funds – remember when they were going to crush us with their existing money?  How is that going, anyway – here’s a thought to cheer up people’s weekends: if they have the money, and they aren’t spending it on a race, then it pretty much means that the DCCC has given up on that race.

Like Betsy Markey’s.  Yup, the DCCC finally cut her loose completely: they’ve canceled a 700K ad reservation to help her in her race against Cory Gardner.  And they did this knowing full well that they’d have emergency funds handy.  Remember that: 17 million dollar line of credit.  If the DCCC still can’t find cash for a Democrat after that, the Democrat had better start updating his or her resume…

Moe Lane

PS: Yes, you may safely assume that the line of credit doesn’t frighten me.  Mostly because neither has the DCCC.  At least, not under Van Hollen’s tenure: he’s been singularly unimpressive this cycle.  Bad recruitment, bad strategies, exceptionally bad corporate tone… it’s been all I could have hoped for, and more.

This race has become competitive. The DCCC must agree as they put $ into this race for the first time last week. IA-02 is a blue district. D+7 partisan index. Voted for Gore by 10%, Kerry by11% and Obama by 22%. Miller-Meeks ran against Loebsack last election and lost by 18%!. Poll out today that Miller-Meeks is up one point!

If IA-02 is in trouble for the Dems then you have to assume that IA-01 is toss up also IA-03 is a likely GOP takeover.

If IA-02 is in play then it portends a truly big WAVE election.

a few points after their collateral is kicked into worthlessness by the voters.

As I try to figure out the left the ‘victim’/'victimizers’ thing makes a lot of sense. I don’t understand why some of my christian friends have gone liberal, I think they just ignore the anti-christian rhetoric.

if Miller-Meeks pulls this one out. It’s a R poll so there may be a little bias to it but regardless, she looks to be within the MOE. Turnout is going to decide this one, especially in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City. This certainly looks like one of the DCCC’s firewalls so they probably have it as a real close race too.

I can attest that the DCCC has been firewalling IA-03 for weeks and weeks with personal attack ads on Zaun. I have not seen one ad extolling the virtues of Leonard Boswell, but I get a postcard 2x a week and TV ads every night with personal swipes at Zaun. Several from DCCC.

As for IA-01, if I go by yard signs then Lange has a shot – it’s at least 2:1 there by my unscientific experience polling.

It would be severl levels of awesome to flip at least 1 or 2 Iowa CD’s red, can we even hope for three?

The Dems are being forced to spend money to defend seats that they’ve always won handily.

I’ll give you an example from the west. Here in AZ07, Raul G hasn’t run a TV spot in eight years. He’s typically won by 20+. This year he’s facing a political neophyte who is in her first run for office. She’s a physicist, not your typical political hanger-on. Raul is running TV ads and the race is a toss-up.

If D+XX districts are even close there is really a huge move afoot.

I agree Southpaw75. IA-02 will come down to turnout which is sort of amazing. Cedar Rapids is heavily unionized. Will they be energized for Loebsack? Iowa City is full of college kids. Will they vote in a mid-term without Obama on the ballot? I doubt it. Just being from the area I can tell you the energy on the GOP side is amazing and independents are swinging for Miller-Meeks. Loebsack is a marginal candidate who has benefited from a Dem +7 district and two very Democratic election cycles. He just doesn’t inspire the independents and I doubt the Iowa City college kids are clamoring to vote for him.. If the Dems can’t get 2008 turnout levels from the youth in Iowa City then they will need to outperform their turnout in Linn County (Cedar Rapids) from 2008 to hold the seat in order to counter the enthusiasm in the GOP and the swing of independents.

has fired up a line of credit too–could be a bluff as could the DCCC move.

If I was the RCCC I would max out a line this year. If there is any year where the RCCC needs to borrow and spent its this year. Will the political atomsphere ever be better for the GOP?

Frankly I think the RNC -RCCC-NRSC model needs a major remodel come January.

    1. The direct mail & small donor model for the three national committees is broke so to speak. As small donors have left these committees

    2. The House and Senate committee has more or less become a funnel-as perhaps it should be-for contributions from congressman & senators to candidates. Boehner raises a million then donates it and so forth.

Maybe his cash is tied up in subsidizing the French rioters, on the theory that you can only destroy one country at a time.
Arianna is still living off her husband, she should be good for a mil or two.
And then there’s The O, he made millions from books, what was a title? Crap My Father Told Me, before he skipped town.
I guess it’s the old story of not wanting to toss money away on a dying cause.

  • chipbennett

…but also running Get-Out-The-Illegal-Immigrant-Fraudulent-Vote efforts (to the tune of 3,000 or so, just yesterday).

  • distantvoter

The Democratic Party is emptying campaign coffers. All that cash they’ve been hoarding, and they are forced to spend it all, and borrow more.

That should be creating a few jobs in the advertising industry somewhere. Good for them. Barney is even borrowing from himself to help the economy. Who knew these people were so good-hearted?

  • eastbaylarry

Then, in 2012, all the manure that is about to hit the fan can be blamed on republicans, helping the 0 get re-elected. Not to mention a “D” wave to correct the ‘problem’.

  • heir2freedom

How fitting. Now if conservatives can keep the Progressives from bankrupting America for their social justice utopia…
