MN Democratic party attacks Catholics to get to Protestant.

The Protestant being Dan Hall, who is a candidate for Minnesota State Senate – and as far as I can tell, an Evangelical pastor.  Which is not the same as a Roman Catholic priest.  This is kind of important, as the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party of Minnesota apparently thinks that all Christian clergy look alike to them.  The short version is that the below ad was mailed out to attack Hall, and in a fashion that completely misrepresents both Dan Hall and the Roman Catholic Church.  the National Catholic Register calls this “The Most Anti-Catholic Political Ad You’ll Ever See,” and it’s hard to argue with that:

Now, I understand that Democratic activists sometimes have difficulty telling the difference between Christians and all that, but when you put out ads the idea is to help your own side.  The incumbent Democrat is already disavowing this ad and doing his best to pretend that he has nothing to do with his own political party; he’s also claiming that he’s running a positive campaign, which I suppose is easy enough to do when you can get somebody else to channel the spirit of the Know-Nothing Movement for you.  Certainly, the Roman Catholic church itself is not amused, particularly since they have essentially nothing to do with this election in the first place.

And that’s not even getting into the content of the ads, which brazenly attempt to smear Hall, who is a man heavily involved with volunteer chaplain services in the Midwest.  Then again, we’re talking about desperate Democratic activists.

And I can’t think of a worse thing to call them.

[UPDATE]: Not the first time that they’ve deliberately used Catholic imagery in their attacks on Hall, either.

Catholics are fashionable to hate right now. Look at Joy Behar’s ongoing gibbering rants against her former faith and we all know what a fashion leader she is. She’s even bringing back the B-word as okay to use when describing a woman, as long as she has (R) after the name. Catholics are now up on the altar of the Left, not a big surprise. It’s all okay, when progressives run out of fodder they always start consuming each other which is happening now, but will be even more apparent in just a few short weeks.
Now if you’ll excuse me I need to get back to my statue worship, incense, and other cultish activities. Thank you for the update though (sincerely). It is important to stay informed. Et cum spiritu tuo.

Dr. Bernard Nathanson (former abortion doctor) wrote in his book about being party to conversations in which the abortion industry spoke of exploiting anti-Catholicism to pursue its gruesome agenda.

The same folks who who recoil in horror at any stereotyping of Muslims, gays, or any other approved victim groups have absolutely no problem with vicious and invidious stereotyping of Catholics, although some of this bile of the ruling class is now directed at Evangelicals.

I know Catholics and Evangelical Protestants have some deep theological disagreements, but I suspect that what I believe Chuck Colson said is true: There was a time Protestants feared Catholics would listen to the Pope, now they fear they won’t. On political matters, we have far more in common than not.

As for me, I tolerate nothing directed at either side. I know where it comes from.

Is there anybody more inappropriately named than “Joy” Behar? What a bitter, angry, misanthrope.

Our Lutheran clergy also wear clerical collars like the one in the picture, and I believe some other “mainline” Protestants do as well. As a lifelong Lutheran, when I see someone wearing an outfit like that my first thought is “Pastor” rather than “Priest.” Since Minnesota is one of the few states where Lutherans outnumber Roman Catholics, I suspect folks there would be likely to share my interpretation rather than automatically associate this picture with Catholicism. Including quite possibly the person who put this ad together.

Of course, if its a slam on all Christians that doesn’t really make it any better than a slam focusing on Roman Catholics.

To not know the difference between a catholic priest and an evangelical minister is so completely ignorant as to border on absolute stupidity…

Where this applies to O’Donnell and Paul is that it shows the Dem’s absolute cluelessness about redemption and the Christian principle of grace….it never whether Paul made fun of Christians 30 years ago…or if O’Donnell dabbled in witchcraft 20 years ago matters not a whit once they accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior since GOD has promised to cast our sins away from him as far as the east is from the west and remember them no more.

Bottom line is this…it’s always a good thing to be educated about a subject before you go shooting your mouth off about it and trying to make fun of a person’s faith.

This is so boorish and asinine that it would actually be comical if it wasn’t so pathetic!

Right I often think that when I have the displeasure of seeing her in some news clip. I think to myself ‘ Your parents actually named you ‘Joy’.’ Maybe they thought ‘joy’ and ‘rabid glee’ were synonyms.

I’m pretty sure that the Lutherans don’t put up shrines to St. Anthony.
