Pass your own line-item veto, Axelrod.

Oh, Davey.  I know that it’s all mean and stuff that his man-god is going to have to run as a mere mortal in ’12, but that doesn’t excuse amateur tactics on David Axelrod’s part, right?  If he wants the line-item veto so badly in order to combat all that nasty pork that the President supposedly doesn’t want to approve, then Obama should dust off H.R.4890, have it resubmitted to the House, and tell the Senate to pass it this time.  The Democrats have huge majorities in Congress -

- at least, for the next two months -

…so they’d have plenty of time to get the bill passed.  They could do it in a week.  If they really wanted to; which they don’t, which is why they’re trying to foist this off on Republicans.  Of course, as Ed Morrissey notes, this is all really about how President Obama is panicking over the thought of us getting our hands on the budget that the Democrats were too gutless to pass in an election year.  Much better to get one last session at the trough before the grownups take charge in January.

the side in power always is the one complaining there is no line item veto. One never hears complaints from the side not in power. Never.

But you see, getting a LAW passed to get the line-item veto

E Pluribus Unum (Diary) Monday, November 15th at 8:46PM EDT (link)

that would not be the Obama way. He should just DECLARE that he now has the line-item veto.

And while he’s at it he should just go ahead and declare that he can add line items, and change monetary amounts. Inf act, he should just get a stamp made that says “FTA” which means “forward this line item amount directly to ACORN. He can get others : FTU for “forward to unions”,, FTF for “forward to Franks”.

He can add the “Michelle travel budget” subsection, because a single line just does not cover that.

I’ve always been annoyed that these ankle-biting Congressmen and jaw-jawing Senators can impede the progress of the Leader toward making America a country his wife can be proud of.

Not to worry. Once there are enough pragmatic centrists on the Supreme Court, in the mold of Sonia Sotomajor and Elena Kegan, we’ll be able to find the line item veto somewhere in the living and breathing Constitution.

Obama's version of a line-item veto is no different than an ObamaCare waiver. [nt]

Moe: Thank you for reminding us what Axelrod can do for the PODUS. He can get line item veto passed in the House and Senate at this time more so than Obamacare, Porkulus, or any other bill that he worked on, bribing reps, lying to others, having them lie to us, to pass. That would actually be a great tool for President’s to have. If enough freshman and similar reps are not reading your column, how can we get the word to them. We are emailing our Congressman, let us see what else we can do to bring this to a reality. Anyone have any ideas?

President Regan fought so hard to get Line Item Veto. President Regan was never successful. The time is now. Term Limits sounds good also. I believe the sleeping giant has finally awakened. we the people. May GOD always bless America and America’s beloved GOD given CONSTITUTION.

No earmarks and a president with the line-item veto. Oh joy. Damn that silly Constitution. The Congress should not be in a position to tell Obama how to spend money he wants to use to open the border (the fence and increased border guards were both Congressionally directed) and Obama could veto any other controls the Republicans tried to put in place. What Obama needs is more power. Yeah, that’s the ticket. And in the name of controlling pork Constitution ripping Republicans are going to give it to him

Unlesss you are being factitious tjhen HR4890 entitled Alcohol Detection Sysems for Stopping Alcohol Related Fatalities Everywhere Act of 2010 is not the right bill.
Actually there are many bills that are written that are just plain stupid I can not begin to list them all. If Congress whould just concentrate on funding our Military, staightening out Medicare and Medicaid, deleting Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, give us a flat income tax, our country would be back on the right track.

Won't the line-item veto...

…empower the executive branch too much? I understand that Congress needs a shorter leash of late, given its tendency to pack more pork into bills than John Madden does into sandwiches. But the executive isn’t the purse, Congress is, and I see this as only covering up a problem with a deeper root cause. That, and giving the already over-inflated U.S. President even more power.
