Harry Reid hates Christmas.

Almost as much as Harry Reid hates working for a living, apparently: the word is out that he’s going to take all that legislation that the Democrats didn’t bother working on when they had a mere 59/41 Senate majority and make Congress work on it over Christmas break… when the Democrats will have a 58/42 majority. He is also blaming this on the Republican party, of course… mostly because Reid is too lazy to come up with even a semi-plausible excuse.  Or possibly too contemptuous of the whole process; I don’t think that we’ve ever had a Senate Majority Leader who visibly enjoys the job less than Harry Reid does.  Why he kept the position is beyond me: he clearly hates it, and he’s not very good at it, and nobody really is better off for Reid keeping it.  It’s a mystery, really.

Anyway, Congressional staffers are no doubt even now calling their relatives and loved ones to tell them that, well, maybe they won’t be home for Christmas after all.  I’m reserving all my sympathies for the Republicans caught up in this last act of petulance of the 111th Congress, of course – but I’d like to remind the Democrats likewise in a vise on this one that it’s their own blessed fault, or more accurately, the fault of their various bosses.  After all, if a majority of Democratic legislators had had the guts to throw out the leadership that led them en masse into a wood chipper this November then maybe more of said legislators’ employees would actually get to go home for the holidays…

They are the Ghost of Christmas Past whose hauntings must cease now. Wait them out you 41.

Again – the Dems have to get to 60, we don’t need to keep 41 around.

So keep all our guys home – voila! Dingy Harry can never get to 60 no matter how hard he tries! Case closed. :)

Moe-how does your whining translate to “Harry Reid hates Christmas”???? Really. Ain’t nothing wrong with them working a little overtime.

To suddenly vote to end their session and leave DC without doing any more damage to the country…

  • minncon

… unfortunately, the Constitution requires only 51 members (a simply majority)* as a quorum. “Grinchy Harry” could still do damage even if all the Conservatives and RINOs stayed home.

    * Quorum – The number of Senators that must be present for the Senate to do business. The Constitution requires a majority of Senators (51) for a quorum.

We got ObamaCare because of the “R’s” rush to get home for Christmas. We can only hope that for once they will take their job seriously and do the right thing, even if it mean the poor guys might actually have a late Christmas, alot like our brave soldiers everywhere have to do.

It is time to shut down congress completely and this sounds like a great way to do it. (At least shut it down until the new one is sworn in.)

applies to the Continuing Resolution or not. I’m not sure. All we can do is what we can do, and on whether that huge spending bill gets passed should depend SOLELY on Dem votes.

  • IJB

My understanding is that they would have had to pass a budget in the first place to use Reconciliation – they didn’t pass a budget this year, ergo they can’t use Reconciliation which means they can’t pass it with just 51.

They need 60 to close off debate – if none of our guys show up after Christmas, they simply won’t be able to pass it, esp. with just 2 weeks to go.

So our guys simply should not show up.

Every time I think I’ve seen the dumbest comment ever, someone comes along who wants to top it. Just think, you went to all the trouble of logging in and typing that out on purpose. Remarkable.

Boycotts aren’t usually all that effective, but then again Las Vegas completely depends on the tourist trade. If the 40 percent of America that is conservative puts the screws to Vegas, the place will completely tank.

Besides, they elected this turd despite knowing exactly who he is, and it wasn’t particularly close. Seems to me they deserve whatever they get, with apologies to those here who didn’t vote for him.

Same theory as economic sanctions designed to bring down a rogue regime. You really can’t find somebody who deserves to be brought down like Reid does.

I drove from Salt Lake City to Reno last year .. terrible roads, terrible food… only thing Reno had going for it was In-n-Out… and my schedule meant I got into Reno too late for dinner, and left too early for lunch.

If I never set paw in Nevada again I’ll be happy… but I think I can join your boycott.

If they get rid of Reid, I’ll make a point of spending a couple bucks in Nevada…. even if it’s just on the way from the Grand Canyon to Death Valley.
