Boehner dismisses Reid on Obamacare repeal.

Or, "Boehner shows Reid the Hawaiian good-luck symbol."

The memo you are about to read is real.  I did not write this.

Background: recently, Harry Reid (in a moment of bravado), deigned to inform Speaker-designate John Boehner that he should not bother to pass a repeal of Obamacare in the House, because it would not succeed in the Senate. So there, neener neener, and similar big talk from a guy who just presided over the literal decimation of his party’s caucus in 2010 – and will likely preside over its transition to minority status in 2012.  Left unexplained was why Senator Reid thought that he had any business telling the People’s House what they can or cannot do, mostly because such a question implies that Harry Reid actually had any motivation beyond the resentment of a petulant man-child.

This was John Boehner’s response.

Senators Reid, Durbin, Schumer, Murray and Stabenow:

Thank you for reminding us – and the American people – of the backroom deal that you struck behind closed doors with ‘Big Pharma,’ resulting in bigger profits for the drug companies, and higher prescription drug costs for 33 million seniors enrolled in Medicare Part D, at a cost to the taxpayers of $42.6 billion.

The House is going to pass legislation to repeal that now.  You’re welcome.

Again: I DID NOT WRITE THIS.  I wish that I had: but I would have never have thought that the Republican leadership was ready to be this blunt about things.  Which is great, of course.

I have to give Boehner a VERY good pat on the back on this!!!!!
(As long as the follow through keeps this tough, which I believe it will)

This kind of talk from the GOP is like a gift from God for me to hear!!!!!

I hope that this kind of talk and corresponding action become the STANDARD for the GOP.

The scum Dem/Comm HEATBALLS:)) have been an arrogant, destructive, desecration to this country. Time to let them know in word and DEED.

  • http://www.800cart.com Ron Robinson

    Obama: “I won.”

Boehner: “The House is going to pass legislation to repeal that now. You?re welcome.”

What’s not to like about being blunt? Neener, Neener, he started it!

Reid should remember that all spending bills for his vaunted social programs must be introduced in the House – want to bet he’ll keep forgetting that? Again and again?

….Republicans have finally grown a spine and will start standing up to these slugs.

….Republicans got the message on Nov. 2 that we are sick and tired of compromise and expect our leaders to fight for what the people want.

… you almost believe they really mean it.

Looks like the Reps are finally understanding that ObamaCare is massively unpopular and has no natural constituency. More of this please, Reps.

That’s awesome, the only thing that would have been better if he had added “Bless your heart.”

  • Michael Dugas

because there sure is a mixed message coming from him considering his recent talk of sharing power in the House with the minority.
Like Cornyn, Boehner is one of those politicos who always leaves me
wondering as to what he really thinks and plans to do.

That memo is a great start…lets hope he follows through and has the cajones to stick with it to the end.

and Gary Cooper is in town.

    Shock. Awe. Joy.

Keep it up, Mr Boehner and bring (or drag as need may have it) those other Republicans with you!

Boehner for Pre….I mean, Speaker of the House! ;)

(Ya’ll can picture a 6’2″ 370 lb man doing a war dance around my living room about now)

GOD bless you John Boehner…Maybe you could send a little of whatever it is you’ve been eating and/or drinking over to McConnell so he can grow a pair!

  • tedpomeroy

Speaker should point out that Obamacare is JOBKILLER!

Small businesses will not hire. Several large employers like AT&T, Caterpiller, Verizon and John Deere charged billions to their financial statements instead of investing in growing their companies and employment. Remember Henry Waxman calling a hearing and then canceling it?

Let us not get wrapped up in the details like the “doughnut hole” and 26 years olds. In fact the 26 year old provision makes it more likely that Mom or Dad will be laid off due to the extra expense for their employers.

ObamaCare is barrier for new employment!

John Boehner is demonstrating the proper way to deal with your friends across the aisle. Yea, the same “friends” that are attempting to destroy America as we know it.

  • walter_hanson

While that was a great response I would’ve sent back five copies of the constitution and the following statement:

    Dear Falks:

Thank you for reminding us of your backdoor deal that ignores the spirit of the constitution. Not only will we vote to repeal it we’re sending as a gift for the five of you since you have never bothered to read it the US Constitution the thing each one of you took an oath to defend not destroy.

    Speaker John Boehner!

need to see. They need to know that there is a new Sheriff in town ready to kick some azz.

The Democrat leadership in Washington cannot be reasoned with or bargained with. The sooner Republicans accept that fact the sooner we can begin restoring our country.

There are bad people in this world, quite a few of them are in Washington and they need to be stopped.

    GO JOHN!!!

  • jmimac351

He is punking the Dems and reminding the cook Dem base of the stuff they don’t like about the bill.

The tone here is what’s important.

It is time to take the gloves off and fight. Obama is very willing to use regulatory schemes and executive orders to perpetuate his soft TYRANNY.

This was not just for Reid, it was meant for Obama too. The whole damn lot of them.

  • fpete13527

Pick no nits, no carping about details, and no suggestions for minor tweeking to make it better. This is such a huge departure from business as usual for Republicans in Washingtonthat it seems churlish to natter at the margins. Let’s just sit back and enjoy the first full throated act of defiance by Republicans since the late 1850s.

I would love it if the house would pass Executive Branch pay cuts of 15-20%. He can turn it around to a quote from Obama “at some point people have made enough money.” Let it start with the man who said it.

  • smitch61

I had goosebumps reading that…. seriously.

I dislike Debbie Stabenow a lot.. which has nothing to do with anything, except when I read her name within the memo it reminded of that, and gave me an excuse to say it out loud again. I dislike her yes I do, and hopefully the new governor here will put her in her place.

Of course we know he’s just grandstanding, but it’s still music to my ears. Boehner knows that he’s on a short leash right now – if the GOP congress screws this up they’ll be toast forever, and a third party will form. What we should be concerned about is what happens when they have consolidated power in 2 years should we win the presidency. No doubt they’ll go right back to playing to the middle.

Yesterday Boehner told us how he is going to give Democrats more decision making power. Simultaneously he is also trying to collect enough votes to raise the debt limit. Will the real John Boehner please stand up.

If Boehner continues to demonstrate he has the conservative core and tanacity as well as the strength of character to be blunt and cutting in his remarks….if he remembers where he came from and where so many of us are today…if he acts on conservative and libertarian core values and works hard to overturn Obamacare and numerous other boondoggles of Obama and his cronies…the newly elected tea party supported conservative Rs flex their muscles and take some authority and leadership over the establishment elitists in their party…if we keep the pressure on our elected officials, there is hope for America. If not, we are going the same way as Greece, Iceland, etc. but there is no Germany to bail us out, and the whole world will suffer greatly as will we, our children, and our grandchildren!

Congratulations to the 112th Congress, and all the new members being sworn in today. Looks like the House, at least, is trying to start off on the right foot. Many actions are largely symbolic, but symbolism is important. If the actual actions that follow are true to the same spirit.

So a word of caution to the 112th: Be careful. We have high expectations. And we WILL be watching!

We need to focus our education on the Moral issue of Govenment taking over healthcare, similar to overstepping their proper boundaries in all areas that inevitably impinge on freedom. (think also cap-and-trade, Dodd-Frank financial overhaul, etc.)

Wasn’t this the procedural “deem and pass” maneuver Nancy and Harry pulled to get around Scott Brown voting on this disaster?
John Boehner and the house republicans should just do the same and send the bill to the oval office to be signed and keep sending until it is signed to the exclusion of all other discretionary legislation.

‘Death panel’ provision out of Obama Medicare policy

The Obama administration will remove a brand-new Medicare policy that had reignited the “death panel” debate from last year’s healthcare fight.

The provision to be eliminated would have covered end-of-life consultations as part of annual wellness examinations created by the new healthcare reform law, according to a report.

The reversal comes a week after some conservatives accused the Obama administration of trying to sneak through a regulation after failing to gain congressional support. A provision for end-of-life planning was not included in the final healthcare overhaul after conservative firebrands labeled it as supporting government-run “death panels.”

We’ve got ‘em on the run Mr. Speaker, keep hitting them until this monstrosity of a law is dead and gone.
